"Wh- when were you going to tell me this?" Callum stammered over his question. She said yes to a date? Had he not said something, would she have even told him about it?
"I just did. What does it matter?" Rayla questioned in an awkward chuckle. Why did he care so much?
"Well- well- I-- when did this guy ask?" Callum rubbed the back of his neck almost furiously refusing to meet her eyes, but his eyes roam her.
Rayla wasn't sure why Callum seemed so appalled at this, "He's the neighbor across the street. He seems... Okay. He asked me when I was on my run this mornin', and I did say yes." She ended the conversation at that by leaving to take a shower.
Callum stood there looking from where she was, to Ethari trying register everything. Rayla had a date. Ethari could very clearly see Callum's jealousy. But he said nothing. He couldn't technically tell him it would be fine, because he didn't know where this would lead. He knew Rayla, he didn't, however, know her new date.
Rayla came out in a loose, purple t-shirt, that only conformed to her torso with a name tag pinned near the left shoulder, and long, black pants. She walked into the living room drying the ends of her hair with a small towel. After she finished drying her ends, She put down the towel and pulled her phone out from her pocket. She needed to text Claudia or Nyx, at least for an extra opinion. Both girls had likely been on formal dates before, they would know the kinds of dresses to wear.
Rayla: Hey, do you have any free time to go shopping late?
Claudia: Sure, I'm always up for shopping. Why?When?
Rayla: Particular reason. Explain later. 15 min after 6:55pm.. About 7:00. Can you manage that?
Claudia: 15 min after you get off of work? Done! Should we call Nyx to see if she's free for a second opinion?
Rayla: Already have a second opinion. Do I need a third?
Claudia: Who's your second? Ethari?
Rayla: You're my second.Callum's my first. So third opinion,Yes? No?
. . .
Claudia: No go. Nyx has a date with Sor-bear. Yuck.
Rayla: See you this evening
Claudia: See yahhh!!
Rayla put her phone down on the coffee table. "Okay, We're set for tonight to go shoppin'. Are you sure you're still willin' to go, Callum? If you don't want to go, it's fine. You don't seem in that great of a mood." She asked as she put her hair up in a messy bun with a pencil.
Callum stood, "No, no. I'm not in a bad mood or... whatever. I'd be happy to help you find a dress. I'm.. not in a bad mood, trust me," He assured her holding out his hand to her.
Rayla took his hand and stood to her feet, she looked at Ethari, "Okay, then, let's to head to work. I'll see you tonight, Ethari."
Ethari smiled and nodded, "Good luck."
"Thanks, Bye!!" Rayla called out as Callum opened the front door for her, and she walked through. Callum gave her a once over, before walking out behind her, unbeknownst that Ethari noticed it.
The drive to work, was unusually quiet as Callum barely said a word. He seemed lost in his thoughts. Still, Rayla found it unusual. "Callum, Is everythin' okay? You've been oddly silent."
"Yeah!! I'm fine- I'm just... thinking." He began to feel like a jerk for staying so quiet, because he was thinking, "Sorry! I just- I hope the date turns out for you." He should've anticipated this. Rayla was an irresistible, young woman, and she drew attention wherever she went. She was also single. There was bound to some "lucky leprechaun" whom Rayla found hot or whatever and agreed to go out with.
This guy was probably better looking, then he was, anyway. It felt wrong that he didn't talk much to her, because he wished he was that "lucky leprechaun". He would give anything for Rayla to love him the way he loved her. But her friendship and happiness meant everything to him. He wouldn't want to ruin that, because he wanted more. "Just- Tell me what he's like." He parked in the parking lot. He got out and made sure to open the door for her much to her disagreement. Rayla got out of the car. She gave him a brief hug, "You'll be the first to know."
Callum gave a small smile and with it, he got into his car left driving home.
~*~
There Callum was.
He was at his house pacing back and forth in the middle of the living room as Ezran watched and listened to his brother's ranting. "A Date. A date, Ezran!!! I'm an idiot!! I should've expected she would've agreed to go out with some guy. Some lucky, really really, lucky guy. I mean, what was I expecting? She would stay single, because she didn't like me? Who am I kidding? She's amazing. Who wouldn't ask her? There are probably dozens she'd say yes to! This guy is probably handsome, and strong, and tall, and just better than I am. But will he... Is he going to... Open the door for her or pull out her chair for her? Will he be there for her when she's upset? Will he drive her home when she's walked too much?... What am I thinking? He should be that and more for her. I really hope he is." He racked his brain with aggravations and worries. She deserved someone who would take care of her.
Zym energetically ran around Callum as he paced and Bait napped in Ezran's unruly hair. Ezran was starting to have enough of this, "I think you're over thinking it. I doubt this will even last very long. It's a first date, not 82nd or anything. He's not proposing to her. She's not even serious about this yet, right?" He asked.
"I don't know. She could be, I guess. She did seem a little uneasy about it. But she's never dated before. I think It- It- it's probably normal. I just-" Callum couldn't bring himself to think about Rayla marrying someone else, but she probably would someday.
"JUST TALK TO HER!!!!!" Ezran had had enough. Callum's ranting was grating on his last nerve.
Harrow walked in only hearing the shouting, Ezran did, "What's going on, in here?"
Ezran took a breath to calm himself, and replied, "Rayla's got a date."
Harrow smiled brightly, "Congratulations, Callum, you finally asked her out."
"That's the problem.Hedidn't. Someone else did. He's ridiculously jealous, and can't seem to stop ranting about it." Ezran explained with more detail.
"Oh, Callum, then speak to her about it. She'll understand." Harrow told Callum. He worried something like this would happen if Callum didn't say something. "Tell her the truth."
"I want to, believe me I do. I wish, I could tell her. But I don't want to spoil her happiness. If she's happy with this guy, who am I to get between that? I couldn't make her unhappy, not willingly. I won't do that." Callum described sitting on the couch and making crazy hand gestures to further his point.
Harrow sat down, "So if 'this guy' wasn't in the picture, you'd tell her?"
"Yes!! I want her to know even if she doesn't feel the same way. I want to take that first step. But she's taken." Callum informed him sighing under his breath.
"Callum, this is a first date, right? You can learn a lot about someone over dinner. A lot can happen. If I'm accurate and I likely am, This won't last long. You should still tell her, just not now. There is a reason she said yes, and though I doubt highly it was because he's is any better than you. It may cause an unfortunate situation, as well as cause confusion if you tell her now. Listen closely tomorrow night when she tells you about how it went. I'm pretty sure you'll be the first person she tells, at least of us. Wait this out. She is not taken, until she's serious about him." Harrow advised. He could tell this wasn't gonna be a successful experiment.
Callum rested his elbows over his knees, before checking his phone for the time, "You're right I still have to tell her... Crap!! I gotta go. I gotta pick her up from work then drive her at the store. I promised I'd help her find a dress for her formal date."
"Formal? See? Formal isn't all that wise for a first date. It's a first date. They would best be going to a casual restaurant to build comfort. Formality implies high standards. They're getting to know each other. Mannerisms, and choices in restaurants, and food imply standards and expectations, as well as they're sense of self respect." Harrow told him. "Rayla is a simple girl with simple interests. She's comfortable with you, because she knows you. She trusts you. You know and trust her. The two of you built that mutual comfort. If she is to be comfortable with this guy. He has to be open and willing to compromise that's part of what it takes to have a healthy relationship. Not just attraction."
Callum smiled, he knew Harrow was right. He usually was about these things. Harrow knew he didn't have to have to remind him to be himself, because Callum couldn't be anyone else with her.
Callum left to pick Rayla up from work. He arrived and waited for her to get off. No one said this would be easy. He got out of his car and leaned against it as he waited for a glimpse of her. He checked his phone to see if he had any texts from her. Nothing.
Suddenly, a young woman walked up to him. "Hello, Are you planning on staying here? I'm Sandra. I stay here." She smiled as she began checking him out.
"Oh! No, I'm not. I'm just waiting for my friend to get off of work. She works here." Callum let her know politely.
"Well, if you ever plan on staying, here's my card. I can get you in with a pretty discount." She winked at him as she held out a white card with her information on it.
Callum chuckled awkwardly, "Uh.. No, Thanks, but I don't think I would want a pushed discount. If I were to stay here, I'd much prefer to pay full price, unless there's a public discount." He excused. He could see through this woman's implications, and he wasn't interested.
"No, keep it. Just in case, you'd like to call me for anything. I'd be more than happy to help you." Sandra insisted.
Callum smiled uncomfortably, "Okay." And she finally walked away. Thank God.
Just then he noticed Rayla. He could only assume she'd been standing there watching the whole thing, she seemed a little uncomfortable, gripping her bag strap tighter and tighter.
His uncomfortable smile faded and dulled, "You saw all that?"
Rayla pressed her lips together, "Yeah, she seemed... nice. Are you plannin' on callin' her? She's pretty." She pointed out really hoping he wouldn't. Of course, her opinion shouldn't matter anyway. Heck! She shouldn't even care. She was going out with someone else tomorrow night. She had no right to complain so she tried to sound supportive. She was supposed to be moving on.
"Pretty determined, I'd say. I barely wanted to talk to her, Calling her? Absolutely not! The first trash can I find, that is where this card is going." Callum said up with interest never further from this topic. He opened the car door for her, and she got inside. He closed the door and walked around getting into the driver's seat.
They began their drive to the store.
"She seemed to like you." Rayla pointed out looking at him from the corner of her eyes fiddling with her bag strap.
"It seemed like it." Callum responded keeping his eyes on the road.
"Seemed like it? Callum, she was definitely eyein' you the whole time you two were talkin'." Rayla turned her head to face him.
"Well, yeah, but... Wait! How did you notice?"
"Call me observant. Don't you notice when girls check you out?" Rayla asked in confused. How could he not notice?
"Well, from what I- I could tell Sandra was the only one.." Callum said glancing at her before turning back to face the road as he shrugged.
"Then, you don't know the half of it."
"How do you mean?"
"I've seen many girls look at you, and check you out." Rayla explained much to Callum's surprise to hear.
"Ar- Are you serious? W- why?"
Rayla scoffed playfully, "No, I'm jokin'. Yes, I'm serious. And why do you think? Because they think you're... nice-lookin'. They think you're cute." Rayla stated sarcastically though she wouldn't disagree with those descriptions.
They reached the store and found that Claudia had just arrived as well. They greeted her and she instantly insisted Rayla explained why she suddenly wanted to go shopping.
"Well, I... uh.. needed a dress for a date with someone tomorrow night. He told me it was formal." Rayla informed shyly.
"A DATE!!! Who is he? Did you know him? What's he like? What's his name? How'd you meet? Is he...?" Claudia began bombarding her with questions. Sure, she shipped her with Callum, but if Rayla wasn't going to make a move, at least, she was taking her advice.
"Claudia!! One question at a time. He happened to be my neighbor across the street. I didn't know him until this mornin'. He seems nice so far, smooth, but nice. His name is Dante. We met this mornin' when I was on my run. What else?" Rayla interrupted her to slow her down as she answered each of the questions she'd asked.
"Ooooh, Dante? That's an Italian name. I love it. Is he cute?"
"He's... Yeah, he's cute." Rayla searched for a different description, but settled on the word "cute."
Callum tried to smile, but it was difficult.
"Let's get started!!" Claudia called out.
As Rayla was changing into a dress she'd found in one of the fitting rooms, Claudia began quiet conversation with Callum, "What do you think of this?" She whispered so that Rayla couldn't hear.
"What are you talking about? She hasn't even come out yet." Callum shrugged speaking in a normal tone of voice.
"Shhhh, this whole setup. I mean, are you really okay with this? She's going on a date with someone who so clearly isn't you. He could be better than you in like every possible way. He could be better looking than you, stronger than you, taller than you, I mean granted you are tall you do pass her height by a couple inches, but still more gentlemanlike or whatever." Claudia clarified.
Callum nodded keeping himself from wanting shake her, and ask her what was wrong with her, "Yep! Thanks, Claudia, I feel much better now. In fact, I was already feeling like crap. I think you've managed to make me feel worse. Thank you very much for that." He was already feeling mad with himself for not saying something sooner, now he had to watch Rayla be with someone else, unless by some miracle something unfortunate happened and it ended. But he wouldn't wish that on her.
"No problem!" Claudia smiled.
Then Rayla called out, catching their attention. "Alright. I'm comin' out. Don't hesitate to tell me if I look stupid, or ridiculous, or even if I look like I'm too hard. If I look pathetic, Iwill go to find another dress."
"Oh, Come out already!!" Claudia called back urging her.
Rayla walked out in her dress. The dress was long nearly reaching to cover her feet. It was a sleeveless v-neck with two thick straps over her shoulders and a deep purple nearly see through cover at the end of the V to keep modesty. It had an intricate pattern around the waist and stomach area. The color purple faded into black as the bodice became the skirt of the dress. The dress fit her perfectly.
Callum's eyes slowly skimmed over her to every small detail. Woah!!!!!
Claudia smiled wide, "Wow! Rayla, you look great. This is a keeper, Callum?"
Callum shook his head to remind himself of the situation at hand. He stood to his feet and focused his eyes on Rayla's, "You look magnificent."
Bright red rose to Rayla's cheeks. She'd have to stop getting like this whenever Callum complemented her.
Claudia clasped her hands together breaking the moment between them, "Let's get you some shoes, accessories, and jewelry, and you'll be good."
~*~
Soon Callum was driving Rayla home. He really wanted to tell Rayla, but it didn't feel right to say something if she was going on a date with someone else. Harrow was right. But Claudia really didn't have to throw it in his face that this guy could be better than him. As if he couldn't worry enough about it.
He was so caught in his thoughts that he didn't realize he was gripping the steering wheel tighter as if he was trying to strangle it. Rayla noticed, "Um... Callum, Are you okay?" She placed her hand over his knee in comfort snapping him out of it. She knew something was eating at him.
"Oh! Yeah, I'm.. I'm just... Peachy." He tried to bring his head back to other matters. This was picking at him too much.
"Peachy? Tense sounds more like it." Rayla brought the hand that was on his knee to his shoulder near his neck, and started lightly rubbing it. "You are tense. What's botherin' you?"
Callum began to relax his shoulders. "Nothing. Just... Nothing. Rayla,... I... " He almost said it, but he couldn't bring himself to really say it. No matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't. As Harrow said he needed to wait. "N- Nothing."
Rayla was concerned to say the least. He was never this tense.
They had turned into Rayla's neighborhood when someone called out, "Hey!!!!"
Rayla rolled down her window quickly recognizing the person as Callum came to a stop in the road. "Dante? Hey.. uh.. What's goin' on?" She didn't at all sound excited to see him, she sounded skeptical.
"Nothing. I just recognized your car and decided to say hi." Dante looked through Rayla's opened window. Then he saw Callum, "Is this your..."
"Friend. This is Callum, my best friend. This is his car, not mine. I don't have one yet. I don't technically know how drive yet." Rayla pointed out in introduction her smile widening as she spoke about Callum.
Callum put on a smile. "Hey, it's... nice to meet you. Dante."
Dante nodded, Likewise. She and I are going out tomorrow you know. Cool, right?"
"The coolest." Callum stated plainly.
"Anyway, I should back inside. Rayla, until tomorrow I dream. An honor as always." Dante said his farewells and left inside his house.
Rayla rolled up her window, and Callum pressed his lips together. "So that's Dante. He seems... as real as La la land." He commented. He didn't want his jealousy to cloud his judgement, but he was way too smooth. Of course, Callum himself wasn't the smoothest, but not even Soren was that smooth. This guy had experience.
Rayla slightly chuckled at the comment. "I wish I could tell you La la land was real. What's wrong with him?"
"I don't know." Callum parked his car is the driveway and they got out of the car.
They talked as they walked to the doorway. Once they reached it they were forced to stop.
"Thanks for helpin' me, Callum." Rayla said grinning wider as the seconds passed. "Whatever's on your mind, try to keep it from makin' you tense up. And remember, if you need help, you can always ask me. I'll help you figure whatever it is out, okay? Don't get so worked up about it."
If only she knew. "I- I'll try." Callum responded as they stood silently.
Rayla tried to bring the conversation back to talking, before she got too many ideas. She was going on a date tomorrow night. As tempting as it was, to kiss Callum, it wasn't going to change anything only make things more complicated. "So, Callum, what were you goin' to tell me?"
Callum tried to focus his attention to her question, but his eyes and thoughts lingered. Here they were again, at her doorstep, talking and he was yet again getting ideas. He'd swear they'd been closer, but nonetheless, his eyes still glanced to her lips . "Um... I... Uh... it's.. It can wait. Um... Goodnight." He started to walk down the steps.
"Goodnight, Callum." Rayla said softly as she leaned against the frame of the door watching him walk to his car, and turn to look at her then look away with a happy smile.
When his car was out of sight, she went inside. Ethari had watched through the window and smiled. He did question her about Dante, and what would happen on the date..
The next morning came and Rayla found herself dreading tonight. She should've been excited, right? She worked six hours. Callum had driven her to work and for that small amount of time she felt at ease. Once at work, she did everything she could, to keep her nerves that way.
When she got off, she called Soren to pick her up and take her home. They conversed a little while they drove, until they arrived at her house. He dropped her off and she thanked him before he left.
She went inside and greeted Ethari. She took a shower and changed into her dress. She came out and Ethari styled her hair. The time came faster than she wished and Dante was at her door. She hugged Ethari and came to the door. She hesitated to open the door, but did anyway.
Dante gave her a once over and spoke, "Ravishing. You look Lovely. Rayla." He took her hand to bring it to his lips but she slipped it out of his grip.
"Shall we go?" She urged uncomfortably. She saw his car and immediately figured out why he was taking her to a fancy restaurant. He was used to getting high end things. He certainly enjoyed the fancy things in life.
"As you wish." Dante smirked. He unlocked his car and got in.
Rayla got in herself. She chuckled a little at Dante's phrase, "As you wish" a line from one of her favorite movies. Then she giggled thinking back to the fact that Callum would rarely let her open her own doors. He almost always opened it for her. Figuratively, and literally.
Dante heard her giggle and noticed her wide smile. "What's got you so happy?"
"Nothing!" She cleared her throat as her face blushed a bright red.
Dante shrugged. She was probably excited for this.
Rayla looked through the window as they drove. It was no wonder why she had never heard of this place. It was in the outskirts of Katolis. She'd only been near this area once. During the drive Rayla attempted to make conversation as she was used to. But it felt one sided as Dante would give a nonchalant reply like "Mhmm" He wouldn't even look at her at all. Was he just waiting til they got there? He seemed talkative when they met.
They made it to the restaurant after an hour of driving. They went inside and were led to their reserved table.
He wasn't kidding when he said it was fancy. Intricate glass chandeliers with lit candles hung over every table. There were additional candles in the centers of every table. Their reserved table was beside a glass window. The window stretched like a wall from the ceiling to the floor. Soft, slow music played on hidden speakers and a dance floor sat in the center for couples or even single people to dance.
Rayla looked around. This placed looked expensive. She felt out of place standing in a restaurant of rich people or at least people of high class. Again Rayla pulled out her own chair, sat, and pushed herself back in.
'Wow! This place is really fancy." She said taking the scenery in.
"Only the best for the best. Nothing short of awing for someone as stunning as you." Dante replied in a low tone of voice.
"Um.. Thank you." Rayla tried to smile her stomach forming knots with itself by the minute. He was really really good at complementing. She'd wished it felt more sincere. She appreciated the kind words but he sounded like he'd said this before. Then she pushed those thoughts aside. The only way to find out was to talk, after all they should be getting to know each other.
"Uh.. Have you been here before?" She began discussion.
"By myself!! You know, on my own. I like to dine here alone." Dante answered with determination to convince.
But Rayla wasn't so convinced, "If you have been here with a former date before, that's okay. I'm fine with that."
"That's good to know, but really I have not been here with a date before. You're the first and only lovely I've brought here with me." He assured.
"Oohkay, so..." Rayla studied over her menu. She was starving, she couldn't wait to eat something. Another waiter, came to them and offered Dante his "usual" drink, a small glass of white wine. He suggested to give the same to Rayla, but she shook her head, "No, thanks. A water would be great. Thank you."
"Not an avid alcohol drinker, I see." Dante smirked resting his shoulders on the table.
"No,.. well, that too, but I'm also not of age. I'm only nineteen, not technically legally allowed. Besides,... personally, I don't see the 'sensible' part in drinkin' in at all. I'm guessin' from your willingness, and comfortable stature , you're of age. 21? 22?"
"22 actually. Quite observant."
"I was trai- um.. taught to be. So where do you work?" Rayla moved the conversation to another question.
"Real estate. I help buy and sell properties for the company I work for, 'Ornate Homes'." Dante seemed pleased and proud of this position. It was a job of good pay he had reason to be.
"I recognize that company. A couple months ago, I was house searching, but I couldn't afford a house under that company. But I bet the pay is good. It explains how you could afford to eat here often. I work at Katolis Luxury Hotel. It's not as well payin' as your company but it pays the bills so I'm not complainin'." Rayla eludicated as comfortably as possibly. She still felt out of place here. Dante might've had a strong sense of self respect, and an eye for expensive things, but she wasn't a big fan of fancy things. Simplicity was something she always enjoyed. The simpler things made her the most comfortable.
"Are you still in school? I finished my GED four years ago. I'm not going to college. You?" Dante asked.
"I finished my junior year of high school almost a month ago. September 16th. I moved to Katolis almost 7 months ago. I kinda want to go to College." Rayla started to look around for the waiter. She was literally starving.
"Why the change of address?" Dante wondered curiously.
Rayla turned her attention back to him, "Oh,.. uh.. complicated family affairs. What about you? Have you lived here your whole life or...?"
"I used to live in Evenere, one of Katolis's neighboring cities. I moved away with my folks, 10 years ago. Then six years later I moved out of the house to live closer to the GED schooling center. And four years after that brings me here now. Where did you move from?"
"Uh... Stirlin'. It's a small town in Scotland."
Dante raised his eyebrows, "Big move."
Rayla chuckled uneasily, "Yeah."
Finally the waiter came with their food, but when he gave them their plates, the dish she'd ordered was much smaller than it looked on the menu. It could be gone in a single bite. Still cordial, Rayla thanked the waiter, but she was going to starve. Manner were manners that was one of the things Ethari taught her.
She quickly finished her food, and Dante stood holding his hand out to her. "Dance with me?"
"Uh... N-no, thanks." Rayla shook her head, trying to remain polite.
"Oh! I guess, I just assumed you liked to dance, since a couple weeks ago you went clubbing." Dante sat back down tapping his finger on the table. His head was facing the table but his eyes were on her.
Rayla narrowed her eyes at him, "How did you know I went to a club?"
"Again, we're neighbors/ I was taking out my trash and saw you with your friends in club dresses, going to a car and one was practically shouting that you were going to a club." Dante continued tapping his finger and looking at her as if waiting for her to change her mind. "So.. do you like to dance?"
Raya internally rolled her eyes. He was pulling this on her so that she would agree. On a regular day, she would downright refuse, and maybe even call out the manipulation, but today she sighed and stood. He was gonna be paying for the food here which wouldn't be cheap. "I do like to dance." She really wanted to get this over with.
They walked onto the dance floor and began getting in position. She was not dancing closely with this guy. Rayla put one hand over his shoulder, and her other hand held his hand out.The second Dante put his hand on her waist she back stiffened and she shoulders began to tense. Hopefully this song wouldn't last long.
In attempt to take my thoughts off this very uncomfortable position, she continued conversation. "Have you dated much?"
Dante took a minute to answer, "No, I haven't. This is my first. What about you?"
"This is my first, too, actually."
Rayla couldn't have been more grateful when the song ended. The uneasy feeling however didn't go away like she'd hoped it would. It didn't help that she was starving. She was already getting homesick.
When the bill was placed on the table Dante reached for his wallet only to find he'd left it. He chuckled, "Oh, shoot. I left my wallet at home. Huh, imagine that."
"You- you forgot your wallet?" Rayla repeated. How could someone leave their wallet at home?
"Sorry, but would you mind paying for dinner?"
Rayla's face dulled, "Sure, It's not like I have much a choice in it." She said plainly. Good thing she was getting paid this week. So much for, He was going to pay for it. $234.65 was charged to her account. Lucky her.
They soon left the restaurant and walked to his parallel parked car. Then, Dante got a text, and he checked only to find that something went wrong. "Darn it! She was supposed to clear my schedule for today."
Rayla couldn't only assume it was probably an assistant of his. "And she did?"
Dante face palmed, "I gotta go. Do you have a friend you can call to take you home. I'm really sorry about this."
"Most are probably at work, but I can walk. I used to do a lot of walkin'. I can probably walk home. Go to work, I'll manage." She wasn't one to guilt trip. If he had work, she'd figure something out.
"Okay, still I'm terribly sorry about this. Next time this won't happen." He got into his green, Mercedes and drove off waving goodbye.
Rayla let out a loud sigh, once he was gone. "Great! This is just great! It took a freakin' hour to get here by car, I'd be lucky if it takes only an extra hour to get back home." She grumbled to herself. She looked around and in the far distance she read, "Welcome to Duren"
She started on her walked, she wouldn't float home. And she wouldn't get anywhere by grumbling. She was walking past a small building when the sign for it caught her eye. The sign read, "DMV" in deep blue. She stopped and checked her phone. This was the place Callum said he was starting work. She checked the copy of the schedule he's sent to her on her phone.
Finally, her luck was turning around. He wasn't kidding when he said it was in the outskirts of Katolis.
