Disclaimer – I do not own InuYasha and if I did, he would have ended up with Sango and there would be much more InuSan fan fictions. Since I have read most of the longer complete ones on here, I could only say in a deep, menacing voice "Fine, I'll do it myself."

I am really enjoying writing this story but I would love to hear some input form people on what they are enjoying, what they are not enjoying. Still offering house point for the first to say where I am pulling the special moves for InuYasha's sword from.

This chapter is going to be mostly flashbacks from InuYasha's perspective.

Now on to chapter four, the song for this chapter is Unrequited Love

In this chapter if the text is italicized, it is InuYasha Narrating the story, if it is not then it is present day with InuYasha and Sango

Chapter 4 – Three Years of Mystery

Sango looked at her mate in shocked silence. InuYasha was trying to set up his demon friend with her brother? "I'm confused" she finally said after a moment.

InuYasha led her by the hand to the spring in the corner of his room and removed his clothes. Getting in, he looked her in the eye and said, "I will explain everything to you that I haven't yet." Seeing and feeling his reticence, Sango undressed and joined him in the spring. Pulling her to sit on his lap as he sat on a ledge, he held her to his chest and buried his face in her hair. "Sango, I have not been entirely honest with you."

"What go you mean?" She pulled away so she could look him in the eyes.

"I haven't lied but I hid something that I was afraid would upset you and make you see me in a different light. Sango, you have noticed my change in mannerism and my change in temperament, but there is a bigger reason to it than just being full demon vs half demon or spending time around my brother."

She looked at her mate in silence. She had noticed all of those things and she would be lying if she said it didn't surprise her. She had fallen in love with the old brash, angry, and impatient InuYasha, but she knew this was her InuYasha and she loved this new version just as much.

"It all started three years ago, when I first arrived in these lands."

Three Years Ago

"I approached the castle, Shikon no Tama in my left hand with my right resting on Tessaiga's hilt. I wasn't here for a fight but I wanted to be ready just in case. As I approached, I saw a woman I didn't recognize walk out the front doors. In the coming years, I would come to know her well, but at the time I had never heard of nor seen Senshi. She approached me with no weapon in sight other than the metal gauntlets show wore on her fists when she fought in her human form.

"What are you doing here, half-breed? You approach the palace of the lord of the Western Lands," she had said with pride in her voice.

I looked to her and said, "I am InuYasha, half-brother to your lord, and I am here seeking an audience with him. Tell him that I am to stop being a stain on our father's bloodline and I am hoping to seek his assistance in the immediate future."

"Very well, wait here," with that she had turned on her heel and walked away.

I stood in front of the gates for what felt like an hour but was probably more like ten minutes. I took in the environment around me. The palace was built of stone, uncommon for this area of the world but it made sense given that it was the home of a lord that would live for centuries if not millennia. These were numerous trees growing around the palace but the front facing wall was noticeably absent of them. The entire roof looked like it was enclosed and if I had to hazard a guess there was only one way to get in."

"Can we move on with the story please?" Sango asked with a slight twinge of exasperation.

"Sorry"

Sesshoumaru exited the castle with Senshi right behind him. He had his usual look of disinterest on his face. "What do you want, InuYasha? Senshi says you are looking to stop being a stain on father's bloodline, so tell me what you mean."

I held the jewel in my left hand up for him to see. He and Senshi stood frozen for a moment taking in what I held. "I am about to make my wish, and once I have done so, I will need help in learning how to use my powers as a full demon."

"Do you not have those that accept you as you are?" Sesshoumaru asked. I could almost hear concern in his voice as he processed what I intended to do.

"I need to do this. I intend to take a human as my forever mate and in order for that to happen, I must become full demon otherwise the other option will take effect and I don't want her to go through that." I looked at my brother and I knew he could see the determination in my face. No one had ever used the Shikon no Tama in this way. It was unclear exactly what it would do, but I was willing to take the risk.

"Wait, you became a full demon to take me as your forever mate?" Sango said looking at her love. The fact had never crossed her mind that this was his reason for becoming a demon because there was another option. If he hadn't changed, she could have during the first mating.

"Of course, I didn't want you to need to change to be with me, and this way I can better protect you and any pups we have down the line." InuYasha said looking into her eyes. Both felt the other's love for them and it led to a soul searing kiss. "Anyway…"

"If this is truly what you want, I will help you, InuYasha," Sesshoumaru said taking a step toward me.

At my brother's words, I removed my hand from Tessaiga and grasped the jewel in both hands. "Mighty Shikon no Tama, grant me my deepest wish. I wish to be a full-blooded demon." With words spoken, a blinding light started emanating from my clasped hands. I opened them to look at the jewel in my hands and a splitting headache overcame me.

I felt my feet leave the ground as the light started to spread from the jewel into my body. I felt a burning pain and I let out what was later described to me by Sesshoumaru and Senshi as an earsplitting scream before I fell to the ground in a heap. My mind was swimming and I was trying to refocus but I couldn't think straight. I felt like my mind had nothing for me to grab onto.

Sesshoumaru rushed to my side and grabbed my shoulder. I looked up and saw what I could only describe as fear in his eye with no emotion showing on his face. I felt myself wonder why he would be afraid for me. Then he asked me, "Are you ok, InuYasha?"

I thought a moment then looked at him again and said, "I think I am fine. Is that me? InuYasha?"

His eyes widened in shock as sadness filled his eyes this time. Still not showing on his face of course. "Of course. You are InuYasha, my younger, half-brother, and I am Sesshoumaru."

"Sesshoumaru. Onii-san, got it," I had said in response. I felt a slight warmth in his eyes but thought nothing of it at the time. I then looked to Senshi who had kneeled at my other side, obviously concerned but not taking any action. "And you are?"

"Senshi, I am your brother's general and steward when he is away on business," she responded.

"Senshi-chan, got it," I responded, not registering at the time the blush that came to her face.

They helped me to my feet and I was fine after a moment. Sesshoumaru bid me follow him into the palace. Senshi rushed to the door before him and saluted as he walked past. I walked up and motioned for her to go first; something bugged the back of my mind about what she was doing. She refused to go before me, but I refused to go before her. I then had to have Sesshoumaru order her to go first. There was a flash of recognition in his eye, I think that was the moment he knew that my memories were still in there, they were just locked away for the moment.

He had me follow him to his room and dug through his closet to find a spare outfit. He had me change and told me he would have my clothes tailored to fit slightly better and to hold memories of both of my parents to try and help me remember. He also gave me our father's spare shoulder guards and cape. "I could never bring myself to wear them but you should. They would suit you well."

"You forgot everything?" Sango said, sorrow welling up in her heart. The man she loved had forgotten everything when he had made a wish so he could be with her.

"I did, but eventually, I remembered everything. I will get to that in a bit," InuYasha responded, nuzzling his mate's neck. Feeling that they had been in the spring long enough, he picked her up and carried her to their bed. He laid down, holding her to himself as she found a comfortable position that she could still look at his face before continuing his story.

"The next important thing happened a few months later. I had spent the first part of my time in the western lands trying to reform my memories and learning how to use my newfound abilities. Then…"

Two years and Six months ago

"Alright, InuYasha, let see how you can fight in your human form," Senshi stood before me wearing the same light armor and metal gauntlets.

I clenched my fists and for the first time that I could remember at the time, I drew the katana that I wore on my hip and felt a searing pain in my palm the moment I drew it. It dropped from my hand and I looked at the blade in shock. I had a few flashes of myself wielding the blade. Striking down many demons, wielding it to such efficiency, feeling it take away rage and pain that I felt. Then, all I felt was betrayal. Like an old friend said I wasn't worth their time anymore.

Sesshoumaru came out upon hearing me yelp in pain and saw the blade at my feet. "I had feared as much," he said reaching out and grasping the blade in his hand. He returned it to its scabbard and carried it by the scabbard away, I would later learn he took it to my room. He returned a moment later and bade that I follow him. We ran for a few hours and came to a cave next to a river. We entered to see an old demon; he was introduced to me by Sesshoumaru as Toutousai. "InuYasha is now a full demon and unable to bypass the lock placed upon Tessaiga. He is in need of a new weapon," Sesshoumaru explained to the old demon.

Toutousai gave me a look and yanked out one of my fangs before I had a chance to react. "Hey! That hurt like hell!" I had yelled feeling the rage of my old self for the first time in months. Sesshoumaru's eyes glinted again at the sign of myself.

It took about a day, but the old demon had forged a new weapon for me. He handed it to me and explained that it could harness the energy of my will to take most any form I wished. That made another memory flash in my mind. One of my mother and the stories she had told me of the Majin, wish granting demons. And so, the name of the blade was decided, Majinken.

Sesshoumaru and I returned to the palace to find that Senshi had taken up her job as steward in his absence and was waiting in the main hall for us to arrive. Rin had been dancing through the hall, singing a song to herself and rushed up to us upon our arrival. "Sesshoumaru-sama, InuYasha-chan, welcome home!"

Sesshoumaru gave her a gentle pat on the head before telling Senshi she was relieved of her need to be steward. Senshi and I went back outside to finish the training we had started.

I drew my blade and held it in one hand before me. I didn't know how but I knew this blade required much more finesse than that what I had used in the past and I would need to train myself even harder to use it well. With a quick flick, I launched my first assault.

A wave of blue energy rushed from the blade toward Senshi and she raised a gauntlet to block it. A small dent formed on the wrist of the gauntlet before she struck.

She came at me with speed that I almost couldn't follow. She punched me in the shoulder. Followed by a kick to the shin. Next, she punched me in the gut. Finally, her other foot connected with the side of my head, knocking me into unconsciousness.

For the first time in six months, I dreamt. My mind was filled with the images of a goddess in human form. I saw her beautiful flowing brown hair. Her gorgeous passion-filled brown eyes. Her sweet, but strong smile. A marvelous figure. A laugh that made my heart soar. A voice that made my heart sing. I knew that this woman was a part of my past and that she was the woman I loved but my memories of her still eluded me.

Sango held onto InuYasha tighter as he talked about his dream. Even when he could not remember his past, his love for her was still as strong as ever. He just couldn't put the pieces together.

"I awoke the next morning, determined to become stronger and to find my memories, whatever it took." InuYasha held his mate closer, felling the love she held in her heart. "I could never not love you, even if my mind couldn't remember, my heart still did." Looking into her eyes, he gave her another love-filled kiss. "It was a year later that things started moving to a more personal level between Senshi and I…"

One Year Six Months Ago

I stood examining the five bleeding wounds across my body. She had managed to get a bite on my neck, two scratches on my side, and a scratch and bite on my left leg. I had only managed to get a single bite on her left arm. But I figured it was better than nothing. "I guess you win again, as always."

"You're getting better though, InuYasha-chan," she said with a grin. It had taken about a year for her to let her guard down, but she was my only friend, other than my brother, so she finally let me in. "You may have only gotten me once, but you almost got me a few times." I couldn't help but laugh at the way she said it and she joined me shortly after. We collapsed to the ground, exhausted from the laughter and my training and stared at the sky.

After a moment, my mind turned to my brown-haired, mystery woman and I felt the need to talk about her out loud for the first time. "Senshi," I had began looking at my friend. She gave me a quizzical look and I decided to press forward. "Have you ever been in love?"

She sighed deeply and was silent for a moment. "I have met my true mate, but I do not know where he is now."

"What do you mean?" I had asked, concerned for my friend.

"As a wolf demon, I have the chance of finding someone and knowing the moment I see them that they are my true mate. I met him once, when I went to speak with my lord while he was on his journey of self-discovery. The one that he returned from with Rin. For a short time, he traveled with a young man, and I knew the moment I met him that he was my true mate.

However, he was too young to mate at the time so I decided to wait until my lord returned. When he did, the young man was not with him. He was I believe twelve at the time he traveled with my lord. He is a human, young but strong. Brave, but gentle. Handsome, but not afraid to get scared to protect those he cares for. I know that is a lot to take away from a single meeting with a twelve-year-old boy, but I felt it all in my heart."

"If I ever meet someone like that, I will let you know, Senshi-chan," I replied taking in her words.

"Why do you ask?"

"I have been having dreams about a woman. I know that she is a part of my past and that I love her dearly but I can't place her name. My heart aches every morning when I no longer see her in my mind," I told her closing my eyes, hoping to see her beautiful face again.

"I remember you saying when you got here that you were making your wish to become a full demon to be with a human woman. She must be the one in your dreams. We'll figure this out, InuYasha-chan. We'll get your memories back and get you to your forever mate."

"Thank you, Senshi-chan, you are a true friend," I sat up from my place in the grass and gave her a soft smile.

"So, that is why you are trying to set her up with Kohaku. You believe, he is the young man that she was referring to," Sango said taking in her mate's words.

"Yeah, everything fits. The age, the description, and I know that Kohaku travelled with Sesshoumaru for a little while," InuYasha explained finally answering the initial question his mate had asked. "So, Senshi and I did everything we could to get my memories to come back, but nothing seemed to work, until about 2 weeks ago…"

XxXxXxXxX

Two weeks ago

Senshi and I had just finished our training for the day. I had taken 5 hits again but I managed to break record with three hits on Senshi. We collapsed to the ground again, resting from our exertion.

"Tell me about her again, Inu-chan," Senshi said to me. She did this every day, hoping this would be the day that I would remember her name. Hoping that remembering her name would be the key to unlocking my memories.

"She is a goddess in human form. Her hair a dark and beautiful brown. Her eyes, brown pools filled with joy and love. Her smile, it causes my heart to soar. The beautiful leather outfit she wears accentuates her figure amazingly. Her voice, music to my ears. Her strength-", I was interrupted from my musing by a voice that usually held no emotion, furiously cursing at himself.

"I am a fool!" Sesshoumaru yelled from the doorway. Usually when he watched us train, he would excuse himself as soon as we were done so we could have time to rest to ourselves. He was under the impression that Senshi was a better option to try and help me remember. "I did not realize the one you intended to mate was the taijiya. I had thought it to be the miko."

Thinking back, I remembered Sesshoumaru mentioning my friends by their titles rather than their names. He had mentioned only one name, the name of the miko, Kagome. But that name had not fit the woman in my dream. I thought of that name and I would see a woman in strange clothing with raven hair. And I didn't feel love, I felt rejection.

"InuYasha, the name of the woman you love, is Sango." Sesshoumaru said the name looking me straight in the eye.

The moment the name left his mouth, I saw the woman from my dreams again. She went from a static picture to full motion in an instant. Memories flooded into my mind. Everything I had forgotten rushing back all at once as if this one piece of information was the most important in the world to me, because it was. The woman I loved was Sango, she is one of the last taijiya and I have been away from her for almost 3 years.

Sesshoumaru saw the recognition in my eyes and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Get out of my castle and go to her."

I looked at Sesshoumaru and Senshi before giving a firm nod and turning on my heel. I grabbed what little I needed and started running. I wasn't sure exactly where she was, but I would find her, no matter what.

"So, I made my way in your direction. I stopped at Mushin's shrine because I smelled Miroku and thought I'd check if he knew where you were. He told me of the vow you made and that you were probably at your old village and I took off in that direction as fast as I could," InuYasha finished his story and looked at his mate.

She was staring at him with the love filled eyes that he loved so much. "I was the key to you remembering everything?" she asked in shock.

"Yeah, you are everything to me, without you there is nothing worth remembering." InuYasha's statement was punctuated with a kiss from his mate as she crawled on top of him. He knew what she had in mind and he was not about to complain.

XxXxXxXxX

Hope you liked it. Any similarities you may find with Imprinting from the Twilight Saga with a wolf demon's true mate is completely incidental. I have only ever seen the first movie because it was free for me to see and I only know of it because I watch a lot of YouTube.

Also, I don't know if you noticed but I like to imply them having sex instead of showing it because I feel like the lemon I wrote in chapter one sucked and I don't want to subject you to that again.

Peace out
