Chapter 8: Wax Trap, Mister Three's Nefarious Plot
We come across Dory and Broggy still fighting with each other, unbeknownst to them they are being watched by Mister Five and Miss Valentine.
"Wow those two are really going at it." Miss Valentine stated, watching from the sky.
"They're going to see you Miss Valentine, now get down here." Mister Five demanded of his partner.
"Oh, don't be so jittery Mister Five. They're too engrossed in their fight to notice me."
"Just come down already!"
"Okay, okay."
"Now come on, this is a two hundred million belli job. We can't afford to mess up."
"I know, but I'm not too thrilled to what Mister Three told us to do."
"Neither am I, now let's go."
"Okay." Miss Valentine replied, following her partner into the jungle. Meanwhile Broggy and Dory are still fighting, until they knock each other's weapons from their hands.
"It's safe to say that we're both getting homesick here, huh Dory." Broggy said in exhaustion.
"That's why I plan to end this duel of ours. I'm going to beat you and head home to Elbath. Got that Broggy." Dory replied, then he and Broggy both lifted their shields and thrusted them at each other. Both punches landed in the face of their target.
"76,466 duels…"
"76,466 draws…" both giants said as they fell to the ground. After a few minutes of them lying on the ground both giants suddenly began laughing. "Hey Dory! My new friends brought me some alcohol, do you want some?" Broggy asked his rival.
"A drink? Don't mind if I do." Dory replied. "Think our other friend would like some?"
"Nah, he seems to only like bananas." Broggy replied as he got up and lead Dory back to his camp. He then picked up two barrels of alcohol and tossed them to Dory. After Dory got back to the camp with Vivi and Luffy and explained where he got the alcohol, they explained that Broggy's guests were their crewmates.
"So Broggy's guests are friends of yours huh? Then I guess I have you to thank for these refreshments." Dory said before letting out another hardy laugh. Vivi then interjected.
"Sorry to interrupt Dory, but what can you tell us about this "king of the island" and his fascination with bananas." Luffy perked up at Vivi's questions.
"Why do you want to know about that Vivi?" Luffy asked while scratching his head.
"Don't you remember Mario's reaction as soon as we saw all the bananas? I think he might know this king of the jungle."
"Really? Well, I will explain as much as I can." Dory said while taking another bite of his meat. "He and his family appeared a few days ago. When they first showed up, we didn't think much of them, but boy were we wrong." Dory explained with a hardy laugh. "They love those bananas, in fact that's the whole reason he attacked us in the first place."
"He attacked you?" Luffy asked.
"Yeah, apparently in the middle of one of our fights we stepped on a pile of their bananas, and it made him angry. Of course, we were mad too, since he interrupted our duel, and we tried to attack as well. But he was too quick, and his strength surpassed some of, if not all of Elbath's greatest warriors." Dory explained with another hardy laugh.
"And? What happened next?" Luffy asked.
"We lost. He was just too strong, but afterwards we directed him to a banana tree on the island. After he replenished what he had lost we became friends, I think."
"What do you mean you think? Didn't he say you were friends or if he had forgiven you?" Vivi asked.
"We think he did. He doesn't talk." Dory said. Vivi was about to say something else when a loud crash and some sort of animal call was heard in the jungle. "Looks like someone made him angry, I pity the poor fool." Dory said before Mario came flying from the direction of the sound.
"Mario!" Luffy and Vivi called out when they saw their missing friend. However, Mario kept his focus on the tree line, then suddenly a large ape with a necktie jumped out and attacked Mario. Mario parried and dodged his attacks, then threw his own counter attacks. But the ape was just as quick and blocked all of Mario's attacks as well. Dory, Vivi, and Luffy just watched as the two duked it out. Mario then launched at the ape while the ape also launched at him, then their fists clashed with such force it caused shockwaves that even Broggy, Usopp and Nami felt. After they landed, they just looked at each other before Mario started laughing along with the ape.
"I didn't think anyone could match the king's strength." Dory said in awe. Luffy and Vivi then approached Mario.
"Mario, do you know him?" Vivi asked.
"Oh, Vivi and Luffy and who is this?" Mario asked pointing at Dory.
"This is Dory the giant and he's our new friend. By the way, who is this, Mario?" Luffy asked pointing at the ape.
"This is a friend of mine his name is Donkey Kong. He's from my world and is also a star child." Mario explained while Donkey Kong gave a wide grin and waved at Luffy and Vivi. He then turned to Mario and began to let out a series of chitters and grunts. "Oh, is that so?" Mario replied, Donkey Kong then continued with more chitters and grunts. "No problem, I can fix the warp pipe and you all can head back home." Mario explained, causing everyone to look at him weirdly.
"You can understand him?" Dory asked.
"Yeah, we went on a few adventures together and I learned to understand most of his speech." Mario explained impressing Luffy. "By the way, where is everyone else DK?" Mario asked, DK then let out a loud howl and three more primates jumped from the tree line. Mario then began to introduce them one by one. "This is Diddy Kong." Mario said pointing to a small monkey with a red shirt and a red cap. "This is his girlfriend, Dixie Kong." Mario said pointing to the monkey next to Diddy Kong wearing a pink beret, a pink tank top and with blonde hair. "This is Cranky Kong, OW!" Mario explained, receiving a smack from an old ape with a white beard, glasses and a cane he used to smack Mario. "And last but not least Donkey Kong." Mario said while pointing towards the largest ape of the group, with his iconic necktie and curled hair top. DK then proceeded to speak to Mario with more chitters and grunts, Mario just gave him a thumbs up before he and the rest of the Kongs leapt back into the jungle.
"What did he say?" Luffy asked Mario.
"Oh, he just said that he and his family are going to go check on their banana stash. Apparently, there are a lot of strange people showing up on the island. It could be the rest of our crew, but…" Mario was then interrupted by an explosion from Dory. When he drank the barrels of alcohol, they blew up inside of him. Dory then stood up and drew his shield and sword.
"Trying to kill me with a sneak attack huh?" Dory accused Luffy and the others.
"What!? We would never do such an awful thing!" Vivi replied in her and her friend's defense. "Perhaps it was the other giant."
"Broggy, no way, no warrior of Elbath would ever do such a thing. So, that just leaves you strangers, those barrels came from your ship after all." Dory retorted to Vivi. She was about to say something else when Luffy stopped her.
"Vivi that's enough, words aren't going to stop him, and Mario. Don't interfere, as captain of our crew I take responsibility." Luffy said as he handed his hat to Vivi and cracked his knuckles. Mario and Vivi stood to the side as Luffy, and Dory started to fight.
"Hey, stop it you two! There's no need for this!" Vivi screamed in protest. Mario then stopped her before she could say anything else.
"Vivi stop, Luffy is right words won't get through to him right now." Mario said causing Vivi to turn to him with a shocked expression. "I understand you don't want any unnecessary violence, but there is a time and place for everything. Sometimes words aren't enough, and you need to use force to fix the problem. And sometimes force only makes things worse and you need diplomacy to fix things, but right now Dory is too angry and suspicious of us to listen, so we need to fight." Mario finished explaining, Vivi then turned back to the fight understanding, but still saddened by this fact.
"Karoo? Where's Karoo?" Vivi asked as she looked around for her companion.
"Oh, Starlow went after him so don't worry Vivi he'll be fine." Mario answered, calming her down. Just then Luffy delivered a final blow to Dory's stomach knocking him down and winning the fight. Mario and Vivi ran up to him making sure that he was okay. After checking Luffy and making sure he was alright Mario then began to check on Dory while Vivi watched, Mario then gave her a thumbs up signaling that he would be okay.
"I guess you two were right about fighting, he certainly seems calmer now." Vivi stated.
"Well, I'm not!" Luffy replied shocking Vivi. "The old guy was right about one thing; those barrels came from our ship." Luffy then turned to the tree line in anger, "Whoever interfered with this duel, I'm going to kick your ass!" he screamed into the jungle. Then the volcano that represents the signal for the duel erupted. Dory then began to rise.
"No don't go Dory! You're in no condition to fight!" Vivi pleaded.
"I will go, I am Dory!" he shouted in defiance.
"Don't go old guy." Luffy also pleaded.
"If you have to go at least take this." Mario said as he pulled out a pill. "It'll help you heal." He explained, Dory just eyed them cautiously before he pulled up the large structure behind him and tried to pin them under it. Mario managed to grab Vivi and jump out of the way in time, but Luffy was caught and pinned under the structure.
"There, that takes care of him." Dory said as he continued towards the duel site.
"Hey! Let me out of here old guy or I'm going to kick your ass!" Luffy shouted as he struggled to get free.
"Luffy!" Mario and Vivi shouted as they rushed to him.
"Don't worry Luffy, I'll have you out in no time." Mario said as he began to look for his hammer.
"Oh no you won't" a mysterious voice said from behind. As Mario and Vivi turned to see it was Mister Five and Miss Valentine. "And don't worry about your friends, we already took care of them." Mister Five explained as he and Miss Valentine held up a beaten up Karoo and Starlow.
"Karoo, Starlow." Vivi said in a hushed tone. Mario then charged towards Mister Five and Miss Valentine.
"And we got something special for you Red Cap, go wax ball!" Mister Five shouted as he threw a small grey ball of wax at Mario.
"A pokeball?" Mario thought as the ball got closer. Suddenly, it turned into a giant wall of wax, capturing Mario in a giant wax ball.
"Mario!" Vivi and Luffy cried out. Mister Five and Miss Valentine then approached the two.
"And that's that. Now all we have to do is capture you Vivi and take out straw hat." Mister Five coldly stated.
"And don't worry about red cap. We'll come back for him in a few hours, once he's suffocated and relieve him of his power star." Miss Valentine further explained. Then Mister Five grabbed Vivi by the throat.
"We won't kill you yet Vivi, we're suppose to bring you back alive. Those were Mister Three's orders." Mister Five explained.
"Mister Three, the wax-wax man?" Vivi questioned while she struggled in Mister Five's grasp.
"Yep, Miss Valentine." Mister Five called out as he threw Vivi towards her. Miss Valentine held Vivi in a choke hold while Mister Five walked up to Luffy and delivered an explosive kick. "That was for red cap, but since he's occupied right now why don't you hold on to it for him. By the way, we've already captured your swordsman and that other girl. You really should've minded your own business you group of wannabe pirates, it's good for your health."
"So, you already caught Zoro and Nami? Doesn't matter, cause I'm still going to kick your ass." Luffy said defiantly as he spits on Mister Five's shoe.
"This should be fun." Miss Valentine stated with a sinister grin. Mister five then delivered a series of explosive kicks to Luffy. After he was done, he and Miss Valentine walked into the jungle with Vivi, then Usopp sneaked out after witnessing the whole thing.
"Luffy!" Usopp called out. "I'm sorry I couldn't do anything Luffy. But don't worry I'll dig you out!" he said as he began to dig out Luffy with his hands.
"No! Usopp, help Mario first. He'll die if we don't get him out." Luffy explained, pointing towards the giant wax ball. Suddenly cracks began to appear on the wax ball and Mario's right fist broke out. After a few seconds the left half began to melt, and Mario was free.
"So, I can break it with my strength, and I can melt the wax. Good to know." Mario said to himself, he then turned to Luffy and Usopp and rushed over. He then pulled out his hammer and shattered the structure with a few swings. "Here Luffy." Mario said as he handed Luffy a pill, Luffy grabbed it and ,in a shower a sparkles, his wounds began to heal.
"Thanks Mario." Luffy said as he got back to his feet.
"Where's Vivi?" Mario asked.
"She was taken into the jungle by those two weirdos." Usopp explained. "I'm sorry for not helping, I was just so scared and I… I…" Usopp stammered as tears began to form in his eyes. Mario then put his hand on Usopp's shoulder.
"Usopp, it's-a okay. You survived, sometimes that's enough. If I wasn't strong enough to break out, I'm sure you would have found a way to save me. It's no use crying over what you can't do, instead focus on what you can do, okay?" Mario said, reassuring Usopp.
"Right, thanks Mario."
"Now, Starlow and Karoo, are you two okay?" Mario asked, receiving a nod from Starlow and a squawk from Karoo. "Good now let's-a go!" Mario yelled as he and the others ran into the jungle to save their friends.
Meanwhile, back at the duel site, both Broggy and Dory are lying on the ground trapped in wax from Mister Three. Mister Three was standing over them laughing and gloating over his victory when Mister Five and Miss valentine arrived with Vivi and the tied up Zoro and Nami.
"So, I take it your mission was a success? Is Red Cap Mario trapped in my wax ball?" Mister Three asked.
"Yeah, it was so easy. I can't believe we had so much trouble before." Mister Five replied.
"You can't help that your weak."
"What was that?"
"it's Nothing." Mister Three said. "Now Candle Lock!" Mister Three yelled as he launched a blob of wax at Vivi's legs while Mister Five and Miss Valentine jumped out of the way. The wax then turned into a leg brace keeping her from running. "Now Mister Five grab the swordsman and the other girl. It's time to begin." Mister Three then stood to the right of Broggy and began to charge something. "GIANT CANDLE SERVICE SET!" he yelled out as he began to make a giant wax sculpture topped with a Jacko-lantern.
"So, this is what Mister Three is capable of." Vivi stated as she watched him make the wax sculpture in horror.
"Now, Mister Five and Miss Valentine place the candles in the sculpture." Mister Three ordered.
"Candles? What's going on?" Nami asked as she looked up and saw the giant sculpture and Vivi. "Vivi!? What's going on? Weren't you with Luffy?"
"I was, but…" Vivi said solemnly, before looking to the ground.
"I took out straw hat, didn't put up much of a fight. Oh, and red cap has been taken care of also, so don't expect him to come and save the day." Mister Five said with satisfaction.
"Yeah right." Zoro said in defiance as they put him Nami and Vivi into the sculpture. "This must be what it's like to be a candle on a birthday cake." Zoro stated as he pulled out his sword and tried to cut the sculpture. Unfortunately, it was too strong, "Damnit, can't get much of a swing from this angle."
"Something's falling from the sky." Vivi stated as a snow like substance began to fall, then Mister Three began to laugh.
"I do hope you enjoy my candle service. You may have noticed my wax flakes falling from the sky, soon they'll coat you completely and you'll become a wax statue. I'll literally capture your spirit and emotion in wax shells and add you to my collection. Completely lifelike statues, something I couldn't do on my own, so thank you. A true masterpiece, you will die for my art." Mister Three finished explaining with an evil grin.
"Oh, I don't think so buddy. I have no intention of dying for whatever you consider art!" Nami shouted in panic. "Hey giant, why are you just lying there doing nothing when you could be beating the crap out of this candle guy?"
"You can try to convince him, but your efforts are for naught. You see he's feeling blue at the moment." Mister Three then went on to explain in glee his plan and how he had rigged Dory's barrels of alcohol with explosives and taken advantage of Broggy's shock at learning Dory was injured to capture him.
"Now I know what really happened." Broggy said in anger while glaring at Mister Three. "Now I must finish this with my own two hands!" Broggy yelled as he used all the strength he could muster, to break free of his wax bonds. As Mister Three began to back up in fear Mister Five had launched his Nose Fancy Cannon at Broggy. Then while he was disoriented, Mister Three trapped Broggy's hands and legs in wax before creating four large wax daggers and launching them towards Broggy's hands and legs. But then four shadows launched out of the tree line and destroyed the daggers before they could hit Broggy.
"What the!?" Mister Three said in confusion. It was then revealed to be Donkey Kong and his family that came out and saved Broggy. "Oh, the primates. Mister Five did you do that other thing I asked you to do?" he asked his fellow agent, receiving a nod.
"Good job DK." Mario said as he Luffy, Usopp, Karoo and Starlow came out of the jungle. Mister Three and the other Baroque Works agents stood there in shock at their appearance.
"I thought you said you got rid of them!" Mister Three yelled at Mister Five.
"I did. Red cap should be trapped in a wax ball." Mister Five explained.
"You'll need something stronger than that to hold me." Mario said while glaring at Mister Three and Mister Five.
"Hey guys, up here!" Nami called out getting everyone's attention.
"Nami, what the heck happened to you guys?" Luffy asked.
"It's Mister Three's trap, you need to destroy the pillar!" Vivi explained.
"Like I'll let that happen!" Mister Three yelled as he launched a glob of wax towards Luffy and the others. But they evaded the attack and Luffy then grabbed onto Broggy's helmet and began to spin around until he had enough momentum and destroyed the tower holding the giant Jacko-lantern. However, the Jacko-lantern kept on spinning and since it was closer to Zoro and the others it just coated them in wax even faster.
"Luffy!" they all shouted while Mister Three just laughed.
"You said destroy the tower so that's what I did." Luffy explained.
"Mamamia Luffy, alright it's-a Mario time." Mario said as he pulled out his hammer.
"Yes Mario, please destroy the whole structure." Vivi pleaded.
"You got it Vivi, I'll… I'll…" Mario began to stutter as he suddenly stopped.
"Mario what are you doing!?" Nami screamed. That's when she noticed Miss Golden Week standing behind Mario. "Could it be that girl?"
That's when Mario turned and glared at Miss Golden Week. "You little brat, unfortunately for you star children have a resistance against hypnosis and possession type powers." He explained as he launched towards the wax structure and destroyed it with some hammer swings.
"Miss Golden Week, why did he still save them?! You painted on him, right?!" Mister Three asked in a panic.
"He's resisting my power." she explained.
"What do you mean he's resisting?!" Mister Three continued to yell in a panic when Donkey Kong and his family started charging at them.
"Go, bull fighting red." Miss Golden Week said as she painted a red symbol on the ground. However, DK and his family completely ignored it and still attacked Miss Golden Week and Mister Three with them narrowly avoiding the attack.
"Oh, so now the primates can resist it as well?" Mister Three asked in frustration.
"We overheard their conversation with red cap, apparently he's a star child just like him." Mister Five explained.
"What the heck is a star child anyways, are they just immune to hypnosis and other devil fruit powers." Mister Three muttered to himself, before smiling a sinister grin. "No matter, they may be able to resist hypnosis, but not superior strategy. Oh, filthy primates!" Mister Three called out to DK and his family, "Your bananas are getting away." He said as he pointed to a wax raft drifting away with the Kong's banana stash. They instantly ran towards it and landed on the raft. They then began to celebrate when Mister Three began to laugh maniacally.
"No… the monster…" Broggy said weakly. Then suddenly something appeared behind DK and the other Kongs.
"DK, behind you!" Mario shouted. Donkey Kong then turned to see a giant goldfish before he and his family were swallowed by said fish.
"Ha! You, see? With a superior mind, even someone as mighty as them can be defeated." Mister Three boasted. Mario just turned silently and began to walk towards them before stopping in front of Usopp who was standing beside Nami and the others.
"Usopp here." Mario said, handing Usopp a fire flower.
"What's this?" Usopp asked.
"It's called a fire flower, it's like a small flame thrower. Use it to free Vivi and the others, they can't move because of the wax, but it can be melted. Just squeeze the stem to shoot the flames." Mario explained.
"Right!" Usopp said in understanding before going to free his friends.
"And Luffy." Mario called out to his captain, only to see Luffy sitting down and enjoying some tea.
"Tranquil green." Miss Golden Week explained while enjoying a sip of tea with Luffy.
"Oh, come on Luffy! If I can break out of it, so can you!" Mario yelled before thinking about Luffy's simple mindedness. "Or maybe not." Just then he jumped in front of Usopp and reflected an explosive shot aimed at him back at Mister Five. Mister Five and his partner jumped out of the way before it hit them. Mario squared off with them until he heard large footsteps from his side and turned to see Mister Three return in wax armor.
"Think you can take us all on while protecting your friends red cap?" Mister Three asked while he, Mister Five and Miss Valentine surrounded Mario from all sides. Usopp was desperately trying to free his friends quickly without burning them.
Mario just chuckled, "Yeah I could, but I don't have to." Mario stated confusing everyone until a large splash was heard and the giant goldfish was thrown onto the island.
"Is that?" Mister Five asked.
"No, it couldn't be. That's impossible." Miss Valentine replied, a bead of sweat starting to form on her head. Then a loud thud was heard behind them, as they slowly turned their heads to see the Kongs giving the two death glares. "Mister Five, I… I think we're screwed."
Just then Mister Three lounged at Mario and threw a wax fist at him. Mario just caught it, much to Mister Three's chagrin.
"Just what the hell are you star children? How are you able to perform all these impossible feats?" Mister Three questioned in anger, only to receive a shrug from Mario. Mario then proceeded to destroy Mister Three's armor piece by piece with his hammer. After his armor was destroyed, he and Miss Golden Week ran into the jungle.
"Alright Luffy, get out of there!" Mario shouted as he pulled Luffy out of the circle. Suddenly Luffy returned to normal and was very angry.
"AAAHHHHHH! Where are those weirdos?!" Luffy demanded.
"Well, you don't have to worry about exploding boy and kilo girl anymore." Mario explained pointing over to a now beaten and bruised Mister Five and Miss Valentine while the Kongs stood victoriously over them.
"And what about that wax guy?"
"He ran into the jungle along with his partner." Mario answered Luffy while pointing in the direction of the two.
"Thanks, you've done enough Mario now it's my turn." Luffy said as he ran off after Mister Three along with Karoo. Mario then called over Starlow.
"Hey Starlow, follow and keep an eye on them. Let me know if they need help."
"You got it Mario." Starlow cheerily said before flying after Luffy.
"Don't you have faith in our captain?" Zoro asked as he walked towards the Kongs.
"Oh, I have plenty of faith in Luffy. But I just want to be ready in case he falls into another trap." Mario explained receiving a chuckle from Zoro.
"Well, I cannot argue with you there. Now, you monkey." Zoro said pointing at Diddy Kong. "Give me back my bandana." He demanded.
"What happened?" Mario asked Zoro.
"This monkey attacked me earlier and stole my bandana, now I want it back."
After hearing this Mario approached Diddy Kong, "Is that true Diddy? Did you steal his bandana?" Mario asked Diddy, receiving a nod from the young monkey. "Well stealing is wrong, so you must give it back, okay?" Diddy then pulled out Zoro's bandana and gave it back, then he began to talk to Zoro with chitters and grunts. But Zoro just watched in confusion not understanding anything Diddy said to him.
"He said he thought you were cool with the way you use three swords." Mario explained.
"You can understand him?" Zoro asked receiving a nod from Mario. He then turned back to Diddy, "So you thought I was cool huh? Well, I can't be angry at that." Zoro said with a smirk. "By the way Mario you may need to save Usopp." Zoro explained while pointing over where Vivi was desperately trying to stop Nami from beating up Usopp.
"You burnt off my shirt you moron!" Nami yelled while shaking Usopp violently.
"Nami please stop he was trying to save us." Vivi pleaded.
"I don't care! Do you know how much that shirt cost? I expect full reimbursement Usopp." Nami continued to yell until Mario came and stopped her.
"Come on Nami, he never used a fire flower before. If anyone is to blame, it's me." Mario explained calming Nami down.
"Mario you're just too nice, but since you're offering after haggling the shirt came out to 26,000 belli so with a reimbursement rate of full price plus three hundred percent for willful destruction, it comes out to 40,000,000 belli." Nami explained. Mario then handed two gold coins to her.
"Will this be enough to cover it plus any debt he and Zoro owe you?" Mario asked as Nami grabbed the coins from his hands.
"You really are too nice Mario, but yes it will. Good news Zoro Mario paid you're debt for you!" Nami yelled to Zoro.
"Really? Then, I'm finally free. Thank you, Mario!" Zoro said with tears in his eyes. Dk and the rest of the Kongs just looked at Mario in confusion.
"She really likes money." Mario explained receiving nods of understanding from the Kongs. "By the way where's the warp pipe so I could fix it." Mario asked the Kongs. They then lead him into the jungle, Luffy then came out with Karoo and a bag of rice crackers.
"Hey Luffy took care of that wax guy?" Usopp asked recovering from his beating from Nami.
"Yeah, he wasn't so tough without his traps. And Karoo took out his partner and got us rice crackers." Luffy said while holding up the bag of rice crackers.
After celebrating and making sure Dory and Broggy were okay Sanji came out of the jungle.
"Hey everyone, Nami! Vivi! What happened? And who the hell are you two? Is one of you named Mister Three?" Sanji asked Dory and Broggy.
"Wait, how do you know about Mister Three?" Nami asked Sanji.
"Oh, Nami you look ravishing like that." Sanji said admiring Nami's shirtless look.
"Want to say that again?" Nami asked while raising her fist at Sanji.
"Now don't be like that Nami. Here, you'll catch a cold if you continue to dress like that." Sanji stated sweetly while putting his jacket over Nami.
"Oh, thank you." Nami replied while Sanji sat down on a log nearby and began to explain his story.
