Chapter 12

The air in the Impala was tense and quiet, none of the passengers feeling like talking. Dean kept an eye on the car in front of him as Timon led the way. He knew they should be there soon when he glanced at his watch to see the time. The night was darker than usual with clouds covering the half-moon that hung low in the sky. They had left civilization behind miles back and no lights help pierce through the ebony night.

The highway had changed to a two lane, narrow road that had no traffic on it but them. Dean braked gently when he saw the red lights ahead of him. He followed Timon onto the side road and gave him room as he turned his SUV around and killed the engine. Dean followed suit and did the same, pulling in behind him. Lucian pulled past them and turned so he was facing the same way. Dean checked as he got out to be sure they couldn't be seen from any vehicles passing by on the road.

Everyone stepped from their vehicles and gathered around Dean, waiting for orders. Dean looked closely at the ragtag group of allies that were going to help him get his brother back and the others. This was a do or die situation and knew they were only going to get one shot at it. He went around to the trunk of the Impala and pulled out a pack with a first aid kit, small crowbar, binoculars, plastic cuffs, and extra ammo.

"Timon," Dean noted looking toward him to give them what he knew.

"The facility is about a mile through those trees. It's a straight shot with plenty of cover until you get to the road that leads to the guard house. The trees thin out at the road."

"Okay, we'll scope the guardhouse out and see how many guards are there. That is our first objective, take the guardhouse. Then, we'll let Charlie do her thing and get us inside. From there everyone knows their assignment. Any questions?" he asked giving each a glance. "Good, let's rock and roll, oh, and everyone be careful. We need to watch each other's backs. Lucian, how's your night vision?"

"Excellent, shall I lead?" he asked twitching a smile.

"Be my guest," Dean nodded. "And look out for booby traps."

Lucian scanned the area and headed into the woods with the others following in his wake. He picked the best route and set a pace that the others could keep up. Dean stayed close to Charlie and helped her stay on her feet since there were vines, roots, and other unseen obstacles as they trooped deeper in the small stretch of forest. Everyone tried to be quiet, but Garth slipped twice and went down, only to pop back up whispering, 'I'm good,' before brushing off his jeans and continuing.

Lucian stopped everyone when his keen sense of hearing picked up a high-pitched hum and followed it to a motion detector that he disarmed. He drew in deep breaths, trying to pick up other traces of human scent to determine if there were other traps, they needed to take care of. He found two more motion detectors that he put out of commission before signaling to the others it was safe to move forward.

As the trees began to thin and dim lights could be seen through the open spaces, Lucian slowed and held up a hand for the others to stop. Dean whispered to the others to wait on his signal before coming out. He moved up beside Lucian and they crept carefully forward until they could see.

They saw the guardhouse about fifty feet to the left of them, noting the one outside light illuminating the gate and the door of the shack, but leaving the rest of the area in deep shadows. He could only see one guard inside through the large glass window on the front of the building. Dean motioned for Lucian to ease back so they could whisper between themselves.

"We could go a little further down and get to the fence," Dean whispered. "Then stay in the shadows until we're at the shack. We'll just need a distraction to get him out of there to take him out." He looked back as Garth combat crawled toward them to see what was going on.

"Hey guys," he mumbled. "What's the problem?"

"Figuring how to lure the guard out," Lucian nodded back toward the guardhouse.

"I can do that," said Garth as he rolled away and crawled to where he was even with the guardhouse.

"Garth, wait, damnit," Dean hissed because he wasn't finished talking. "Man, he's one slippery dude. We better hurry before Garth wakes the place up."

Lucian and Dean moved among the trees until they were far enough away from the shack to get across the road and to the fence. They worked their way up it, staying in the shadows until they pressed tightly against the side wall of the building. Dean whistled to Garth that they were ready and crouched waiting for the show to begin.

Garth stumbled from the edge of the forest and fell to the ground before picking himself up and weaved unsteadily toward the guardhouse. He raised a hand as the guard stepped through the door to confront him.

"Man am I glad to see you," Garth gasped stopping so the guard would have to come to him. "I've been lost for like hours."

"Sir, you're on private property and need to leave now," the guard insisted as he placed a hand on the sidearm, he was carrying.

"Got any water I could have?" Garth asked panting and putting on a show.

Dean and Lucian walked quietly up behind the guard and in one swift movement, Dean grabbed the guard's shoulder, swinging him around and driving his fist into his face, knocking him out.

"Right on," Garth praised as he brushed off his clothes and went to get the others and his pack.

"Help me get him inside," Dean told Lucian grabbing the guy on one side as Lucian did the same. They quickly got him into the guardhouse where they quickly bound and gagged him and relieved him of any weapons and his employee badge before putting him in a storage closet and jamming a chair under the handle so he couldn't get out.

The others were gathered around Charlie as she sat at the computer terminal typing furiously trying to find what she needed.

"Let's get the gate opened so we can get inside," Dean instructed looking at the control panel for a moment. He found the right switch and pressed it, looking out the door as the gate started opening. "Charlie, are you going to be okay out here alone?"

"Yeah, sure, I've got my trusty taser here and I'll lock the door behind you guys."

"Okay, if anything goes south, you get the hell out of here."

"No worries. Go save Sam and the others," she insisted.

Dean squeezed her shoulder and gave her a nod before leading the others from the guardhouse toward the facility. When they got to the main doors, Dean took the badge and swiped it at a pad by the door and was relieved when he heard a click, opening the door.

"Alright, everyone knows what to do. Garth, Lucian, you're with me. Let's find the stairs for the lower level so we don't alert anyone of our presence." Dean headed across the foyer to the hallway, checking it before guiding the others toward the back of the building.

Timon used the map Charlie had given him and went in search of the server room to do his job. He headed down the hallway in the opposite direction and found the door that would lead him to the area where the equipment was stored. He continued cautiously always making sure there were no bad guys ahead of him. When he got to the door for the server room, Timon tried the door handle, but it was locked. He pulled out his cell and called Charlie to see if she could open it without him having to break in and possibly set off an alarm.

Timon fidgeted as he held his cell to his ear and waited for Charlie to do her thing. A few minutes later, a double click sounded at the handle, and he reached to check, and it swung open. He thanked her and stored his cell before slipping inside. After looking around at what was in there, he spotted the workstation like Charlie described.

Timon lifted the screen and hit enter to wake it. He plugged the flash drive in and carefully typed the command in, double checking it before hitting enter. He watched as rows of programming flowed by and left it to do whatever it was programed to do. With that done, Timon left the server room and headed for the stairs to go down a level in search of his wife, Sam, and the others.

Dean and Lucian found the stairwell and quietly went down two flights of stairs before finding another door that led out onto that level. Dean eased the door open checking it out before nodding to Lucian it was clear. They entered a hallway that branched off in different directions. Dean looked every way and pulled the blueprint up in his head deciding on which way to go.

"I smell humans that way," Lucian whispered and pointed down one of the hallways.

"Okay," Dean nodded as he hugged the hall and moved the way Lucian had pointed.

They made it down the hall and to another intersection and saw what looked like a breakroom the next door down on the right. Dean chanced a peek inside and saw two guards in there. One was watching a television and the other was splayed out on a couch.

"Hey, where's Leo at?" one asked as he flipped the channels.

"Who knows, maybe he's off smoking or trying to get him some strange sex from one of those freaks," the other snickered wickedly.

"Think we should go look for him?"

"Naw, not if he doesn't want to get fired from a cushy job."

"Think they will let us have some fun with the new arrivals? We could tame them a little before they start their tests and experiments."

"Don't know. Maybe they'll let us up the amps on the batons to see how much they can take. Them not being human lets us do whatever we want with them."

Dean motioned for Lucian to move back because he could feel him getting tense and his breathing getting faster. He knew what the guards said was bringing out the beast in him. He tried a door to find a storage closet. Lucian stepped into it and Dean found a small can that he tapped on the floor and rolled down the hall. He hoped to lure one of the guards out so they could take him out. He quickly stepped into the closet and left the door cracked to see.

One of the guards appeared at the intersection, looking around cautiously and walked past the door. Once he was clear, Dean stepped out behind him and used the butt of his gun to knock him out, not caring how hard he hit him after what he had heard. Lucian helped drag him into the closet where they tied and gagged him. Dean jerked the employee badge off his shirt and shoved it into a pocket before stepping out.

They went back to the breakroom and Dean boldly stepped into the room with his gun drawn, zeroing in on the guard. The guard raised his arms and stared in surprise that turned into anger as he stood trying to determine if he could take Dean.

"Where are you holding the captives?" Dean snarled, never wavering the gun.

"Go to hell asshole," the guard threw back at him. "You're not going to shoot me."

"Maybe not, but he has no qualm of tearing you to pieces," Dean nodded to Lucian. "You see, you kidnapped his brother, and he didn't take kindly to that. Oh, and by the way, you kidnapped my little brother too, and I won't let that slide." Dean lowered his aim and shot the guard in the leg making him cry out and fall to the floor as he pressed his hand to his leg to try and stop the flow of blood. "Now, do you want to try this again?"

"You shot me!" he whined at Dean.

"And I've got plenty more bullets if you don't answer my questions. Where are the captives? Or should I let my partner have a go at you?"

Lucian growled dangerously as he let his eyes change and raised clawed hands so the guard could see. He stepped toward the guard flexing his clawed fingers and raised his arm to strike him.

"No! No! Keep him away from me!" the guard begged as he tried to scoot away from them. "They're on the other side of this floor near the exam rooms. Take the hall to the end, take a right to the end, another right and then next left."

"Now was that so hard?" Dean asked stepping to him and delivering a solid kick to his jaw, sending the guard's body backward where he lay unconscious. "Let's tie him up and go find the others."

Lucian jerked power cords from the sockets and appliances and bound the unconscious guard. They drug him to the storage room and threw him in with the other. Dean used his booted foot to break the door knob off so they couldn't get out.

"Let's go find our brothers," Dean told Lucian before heading down the hallway, following the guard's directions.

Dean rounded a corner and reflected a blow that was thrown at him and threw one himself but pulled it when he recognized the voice.

"Dean!" Sam gasped falling into the wall as he lost his balance.

"Sammy, oh man, it's good to see you," Dean told him grabbing him into a bear hug before pushing him back to give him a once over. "I gotta tell you, you need to work on your wardrobe, and what's with the bare feet? Are you trying to pull a Hulk or something?" he laughed as he looked at Sam and noticed the dark stain on his shirt that looked like blood and splatters on his face and neck. "Are you hurt?" he asked getting serious.

"Bite me," Sam responded.

"Sammy, are you hurt?" Dean asked again as he grabbed his arm and began to look him over for injuries.

"It's not my blood," Sam assured him. "I'm fine Dean."

"Logan," Lucian spoke warmly when he saw him near the back of the group behind Sam.

"I knew you would come looking for me," Logan beamed in relief allowing Lucian to pull him into his embrace. It was almost like seeing double except for the hair.

"You guys want to get out of here?" Dean asked the others who were milling around behind Sam.

"Is my husband with you?" Esme questioned hopefully.

"He is. Why don't we go find him?" Dean told her.

"Esme," Timon called from the end of the hall. He hurried their way and Esme met him halfway, throwing her arms around him and kissing him. She was crying with joy and didn't want to let him go.

"I hate to break up this reunion, but we should get out of here. There's going to be some fireworks and we don't want to be around when they start," Dean explained to them.

"I hope you know the way out of here," Sam said. "It's like a maze in here."

"I do," Lucian spoke up. "Everyone, follow me." He started down the hallway with Logan at his side and the other two werewolves hanging close behind them. They kept eyeing Sam and Dean knowing they were human and acted like hunters, not believing they were helping them.

"Timon, this is Tom," Esme introduced the teenage boy to him. "I told him we'd take him home."

"Hello Tom," Timon spoke softly to the boy.

"C'mon Sammy, there's someone waiting to see you," Dean told Sam pushing him after the others.

"Who?" Sam asked but not getting an answer from Dean only a chuckle. He gave him a bitch face as he followed the others.

The group moved quickly down the hallways and to the stairs leading upwards. Dean relayed to Lucian it might be a good idea to use them instead of the elevator. They filed up the flights of stairs and gathered on the first floor, meeting Garth coming down a hallway.

"Hey guys, I see you found everyone," Garth greeted them. "Sam! Glad you're okay man!" he told him grabbing him in a hug.

"You too Garth," Sam replied awkwardly, looking to Dean for help and not getting any.

"Okay Garth, save that for later. Let's get out of here," Dean grunted.

It didn't take them long to travel through the building and out the front door. Dean heard Sam grunt in pain as he stepped on pebbles with his bare feet, and knew he needed to remedy that. They stopped at the guardhouse to find Charlie still typing on the computer.

"Charlie?" Sam asked in surprise when she turned around.

"Sam!" she cried out jumping up to hug him. "It's so good to see you."

"What are you doing here? Dean what's she doing here?" Sam questioned looking at his brother with a frown.

"Don't blame me, she insisted," Dean replied with a shrug. He looked back down at Sam's bare feet and knew it was going to be hard for him to hike through the woods like that. He looked around and saw a jacket hanging near the door and jerked it down. He pulled a knife out and cut the sleeves off. "Here Sammy, put this on your foot."

"Why?" he asked accepting the sleeve.

"We have to hike through the woods to the car. You'll thank me later."

Sam bent down and pulled the sleeve onto his foot and as far as he could up his calf. He watched Dean search through the desk to find rubber bands. Dean squatted down and took his covered foot and felt around for his toes so he could loop a rubber band below them and cut the remaining end of the sleeve off so Sam wouldn't trip while walking.

"Okay now the other one," Dean ordered dropping that foot and waiting for Sam to hold up the other one.

Once Sam had his crude footwear on, the group headed into the edge of the woods, but stopped when Garth removed a black box from his pack and began to press buttons. They all looked to the facility when muffed explosions started going off blowing out the front windows. The last few explosions were louder since the top floor had collapsed and the walls were caving in. The night lit up with flames that shot up into the sky.

"Way to go Garth," Dean praised him. "Let's get out of here before the fire department and cops get here."

"All in a day's work," Garth replied, smiling widely.

"I didn't really find who was behind all this, but that virus Timon uploaded will spread throughout the servers, data systems, anyone who tries to access the system and will wipe it clean. I fixed it where it couldn't be recovered," Charlie informed them as they walked toward the cars.

"Lucian, Timon, if you hear any rumors of this happening again contact Garth for follow up and if he thinks we should get involved, we will," Dean told them. "If this place existed, I'm sure there might be others out there."

"We will and we'll spread the word to others to be cautious and wary when they leave their clan," Lucian nodded.

"I'm passing it along to other nests and we'll keep our ears opened for any strange things happening too," Timon told them.

"Sounds good, working together will maybe stop this from continuing," Dean replied.

It didn't take them that long to get to the cars. Lucian and Logan were taking the brother and sister werewolves with them to get them back to their clan. Timon and Esme were taking Tom to return him to his parents. They thanked the brothers for all their help and exchanged numbers if they were to ever need their help in the future.

Dean and Sam got in the front of the Impala and Garth and Charlie crawled into the back to head back to the motel. Sam wanted a long hot shower to wash off the stink of the place and Garth needed to pick up his El Camino so he could head out. He was off to look for another case and thanked the brothers for their help with this. Charlie was going to stay until the brothers left so she could get some sleep and visit with Sam.

Sam came from the bathroom drying his hair with a towel and smiled when he saw Charlie sitting on his bed watching something on the tube with Dean.

"Hey Sam, sit," she told him patting the bed beside her.

"I have to ask," Sam said. "Why did you come here?"

"I found some videos on their server and had to find out what was going on."

"So, do you know…" he started looking to Dean for the answer.

"Yeah, Sammy, she got the cliff notes on monsters," Dean answered.

"And you're not freaked out about that?"

"No, you know I was into cosplay and LARPing when we in college. This is like the best," Charlie gushed. "To think there are real supernatural creatures out there is amazing. So, while you were in college, did you ever hunt?"

"No, I left all that behind. I wanted to have a different life, a normal life," Sam replied as he got a faraway look in his eyes. He was thinking of Jessica and wondered if he could have ever had a life with her.

"Did Jess know about this?"

"No, I was out of the life and planned on staying out…Bu things didn't work out for me."

"I'm so sorry Sam," Charlie whispered giving him a hug when he hung his head.

"How about you? What have you been doing since college?" Sam asked changing the subject.

"I worked for a gaming company for a while and did some free lancing on the side. I'm sort of trying to decide my next path, I guess."

"Okay, kiddies," Dean announced after turning off the television. "I for one want to get some sleep, so keep it down over there. You should get some sleep too."

"Dean's right, you can have the bed Charlie," Sam told her getting up. "I'll sleep on the couch."

"I won't take your bed from you Sam, there's plenty of room, you can sleep here too," Charlie replied.

"Yeah, you don't want to sleep on that couch and have your face where thousands of asses have been...and other stuff that's on there," Dean informed Sam. "Fair warning though Charlie, just so you know, Sam gets gassy. I mean to toxic levels of gassy."

"Shut it Dean. Honestly Charlie, he thinks he's so funny," Sam said rolling his eyes and giving Dean a bitch face.

"I am! I'm totally hilarious!" Dean insisted, poking his chest out in pride while Charlie giggled in delight at their brotherly antics, as they unwound from the stress.

"Thanks, yeah, I could use some sleep," Charlie yawned as she moved to get in bed. "Besides, I do know how to open a window if need be. I'm not some helpless damsel in distress."

"No hanky panky over there," Dean growled at them.

"Really Dean?" Sam fussed.

"It's okay Sam, I'm not into guys dude," Charlie told him as she turned to her side and wiggled around getting comfortable. "Nite Sam, Dean."

"Nite Red," Dean sighed. "Sammy."

"Nite Dean, Charlie," Sam mumbled.

The room got quiet except for the noises from outside that filtered in. Dean was the first to fall asleep and then Charlie and Sam. They slept peacefully for over seven hours and only woke up then from the loud noises coming from the parking lot. Sam ordered pizza for them so Charlie would have some food before she left.

She was heading home, but made Sam promise to stay in touch with her and if they ever needed her help again to contact her. Sam promised to do that, and the brothers got long hugs from Charlie before she headed out. They planned on leaving early the next morning for Sioux Falls to rest a couple of days before finding another case to investigate.
