Prelude to a New War
1961-1963
The state of the world stands on a precipice. Peace is wanted, but the dream of a peaceful could only be achieved with what each of the remaining powerful states can agree on, yet none agree on a simple peace, only declarations of non-aggressions.
Hitler, the Führer of the Greater Germanic Reich, still controls the Reich and Europe with an iron fist via the Einheitspakt. Though he was scrutinized by a couple of generals, many dared not to speak up against the plan that created the SS State of Burgundy. At the very least, it got rid of most of the SS from the Reich and now concentrated into one area. Yet the new SS State doesn't stay silent.
Ever since its creation after the failed SS coup and the march on Berlin, the new SS State of Burgundy becomes a secretive and ultra-isolationist state. Even many of the top-ranking members of the National Socialist party aren't allowed to enter the state, even if allowed they'll be followed and kept track of. Information has been heavily restricted, spies from France, England, the Soviet Union, and the US sent to the SS State are almost caught and their fates never heard of. Men of the Allegemeine SS are sent to major nations of the world to destabilize the nations to soon fall prey to the SS.
What information that can escape from the SS State of Burgundy is this: the state is the supreme overlord over the people, many liberties are stricken, many citizens are put into military service or hard labor, slavery is state enforced. Even the "Aryan race" is forced to conduct hard labor for the state. The SS State of Burgundy is, in all extremities, a nationwide work and military camp.
The military, primarily made up of Waffen SS soldiers, is considered to be the best in the world, upholding spartanist values. The return to traditional Germanic paganism in opposition to Christianity became a focus for the SS in order to create a perfect society of the perfect Aryan Race. All of this to fulfill Himmler's desires.
Between the three major powers and the possibility for Hitler to curtail nuclear weapons and speed up the recovery of the Reichsmark, Hitler allows some reforms to pass that helps the economy and allowed slightly more autonomy to the Reichskommissarats in Africa.
Hitler then soon holds a conference in Germany, another in Moscow, and another in the US between their leaders for one main goal, to curtail the usage of nuclear weapons. Signing on a nuclear pact to disarm their nuclear stockpiles, cease the creation of new nuclear tests and weapons, as well as a restrict use of nuclear weapons in warfare: in reality, it was a perfect excuse to get rid of out-of-fate nuclear weapons that aren't needed anymore.
Yet the total of nuclear weapons stands, the US holds the majority at over nine thousand nuclear weapons, but only twenty-five percent of them are ICBMs. The Reich's nine hundred nuclear missiles, with the majority being medium-range missiles. Of the Soviet's five thousand, only fifteen percent are missile capable.
Long after the Reich had sent its first space probe to orbit, far ahead of anyone else, technology in the Reich has advanced a few years further than anyone else. Yet, its technological innovations are under threat from multiple factors. With the crash of the German economy, technology in the Reich had slowdowned allowing its competing enemies to catch up and gain more information in technological advancement. Most notably, satellites, jet aircraft, rockets, and information systems. Though with these setbacks, the Reich is still in firm control of its technological advancements, both civilian and military.
After the betrayal of Beria, with the falling out between China and the Soviet Union, after years of hiding in the Georgian mountains, Lavrentiy Beria was founded by the newly reformed Soviet Army in 1961. Already having several crimes pinned against him, it's safe to say that his trial goes swiftly and without any representation. His allies and accomplices are also captured to and none were left innocent. With Beria officially removed from the face of the world, Nikita Khrushchev has full and complete control of the Soviet Union without any hiccups.
Consequently, after the arrival of Esdeath twenty years ago, many of the major nations work to find a way to counter her. Yet her Imperial Arms' is not easily replicable and the only way to weaken her is to through as much manpower to overwhelm her. That is what the Soviets have learned, yet they know one thing about her. Cutting her off from the Reich and bombing her had proven results in the past, yet her power to manipulate ice is immense. Seeing the effects of Imperial Arms had made several intelligence agencies: KGB, CIA, and SS find a possibility to replicate an Imperial Arm or a way to counter it without losing manpower.
Kennedy, after having won his first election campaign proceeded with some reforms for the United States. Dewey had previously overseen the economic stagnation and recession of the US economy in his four years as president, and Eisenhower oversaw its slow but increasing growth. Kennedy knows well enough about the state of the Reich, its military is advanced, and its secretive ally: the SS State of Burgundy is highly militaristic and advanced in key areas, and they still have Esdeath as their trump card. Kennedy goes on to encourage the military to do more, especially with the Army, which still uses equipment from the 50s. Soon by 1963, the US Armed Forces replaces its equipment to be better prepared to fight and stand on equal footing against the Reich.
Soon, with the world arming itself for a possible third world war, questions arise on who would through the first strike.
The US has already begun its replacement of out-of-date equipment for more updated equipment.
The Reich begins to remobilize its forces to secure its power in Europe and over its Einheitspakt members, the eastern Reichskommissariats begin to remobilize its forces, preparing for a potential for a Russian attack, stationing the Neo-White Army across its border where gaps needed to be filled in. The Soviet Union, though weakened, begins its rearmament and station divisions close to the Reich's borders. Preparing to reclaim its lost territory and putting an end to the Reich.
Under such dire circumstances, the world is poised for another war. A war that would see who would stand on top of the other in the west, to the east war of revenge. Truly a great trial for the world, a trial that holds the fate of nations in its hands.
Never has the world seemed so ready for war as the previous two world wars combined.
