Thank You
Shego's throat constricted. A split second later her frame began to slightly relax, heart pounding in her chest, as she realized the source of the tight grip that had enveloped her from behind, pinning her arms to her sides.
Drakken had her in a fierce hug. His cheek was pressed against her hair and a happy hum sounded next to her ear that caused a flush to rise in her face. She could see the yellow of massive flower petals in her peripheral vision and from his shift against her back it seemed he was struggling to keep his balance.
"Okay..." she said, the word coming out choked as his grip tightened. "They can have you back."
Never-mind that they were still on the alien ship, alarms sounding around them and the ominous blackness of space confronting them outside the windows. The teen brats were only a few steps ahead around a corner and might return for them at any moment. This fact caused the redness in Shego's face to increase, and yet...she didn't try to escape his embrace.
"Thank you," was all Drakken said, a slight tremor in his voice.
Shego felt a rush of emotions too great to process. Her throat tightened anew, and before her brain could engage to stop her, she spun around in his grasp and met his wobbly, emotional grin. A single tear glistened at the corner of his left eye.
He'd had one foot kicked up behind him and he set it down and cleared his throat, but his smile remained. Impulsively, Shego set her hands on his shoulders and rose up on her toes. She placed the briefest of pecks on his grinning mug and then took a tiny step back, still trapped by his arms.
His eyes widened in shock, but before he could respond, a second set of yellow petals popped out from around his neck and layered over the first. The pink in his cheeks notably darkened.
Shego chuckled lightly. "Pretty soon you'll be able to make your own potpourri."
He winced and pulled one petal out, his grin finally fading slightly as he watched it flutter to the ground. But Shego's broadened. She grabbed one his hands from her waist, drawing his attention back.
"Come on," she said softly. He met her eyes again with that same look of gratitude, and as her throat constricted further she turned and tugged on his arm to drag him with her.
"Ow! Shego..."
His hand tightened around hers as they ran to catch up with the teens, a trail of petals fluttering to the ground in their wake.
