Chapter 3: Camp Half-Blood

(Time Skip, three months later)

(A/N: This Chapter contains several ideas from a reviewer called 'God of crossovers' They reached out to me after I published the first chapter of this story. Who knows, you might see more of those ideas in the future.)

Percy woke up from his sleep, looking around as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. When he did, he saw Ignia standing at the cave entrance, only this time, he was in his human form.

"Dad?" Percy stretched as he looked at his draconic father. "Why are you in your human form?"

"Because I need to tell you something." Ignia sat down on the rock formation that Percy used as a bed. "This is going to be a bit of a story, so you might want to get comfortable." Percy sat up and looked at his adopted father. "A long time ago, long before the Gods of Olympus, we dragons were far more numerous than we are today, and for a time, we dragons sought to dominate all other forms of life. After all, none could hurt us, and several began to worship us as gods. This was just the way of things. However, several dragons sought to protect Humanity and establish a coexistence."

"Coexistence?" Percy tilted his head, "What does that mean?"

"It means existing at the same time or in the same place in peace. Now, no more interruptions. Save any questions you have for the end." Percy nodded. "Now, these dragons were far less numerous than the dragons who saw humanity as food. This disagreement caused a war to spark between us, and humanity was caught in the middle. In an effort to protect themselves, Humans developed Dragon Slayer Magic, unaware of the horrible consequences of their actions. When a human learns Dragon Slayer Magic, a Dragon Seed takes root in their soul. This Dragon Seed starts growing the more the human uses their magic, and eventually, they transform into a dragon themselves. One human learned this power for reasons I never figured out; he declared war on all dragon kind. After gaining this power, he went on a murderous rampage, killing both dragons and humans. The power went to his head, and he came very close to killing me and several other dragons. Selene, Mercphobia, Viernes, Aldrin, Dogramag, and I fled for our lives. His name was Acnologia; he declared himself the Dragon King and vowed to make our species go extinct. In the end, it took seven dragon slayers and all of the land known as Isgar to defeat him. Let this be an important lesson to you, Percy; never lose sight of who you are, and never let your power go to your head."

"I won't, dad, but what will happen to me when I transform into a dragon?"

"I don't want you ending up like Acnologia, so I'm going to be using an ancient spell that will seal me within your very soul; there, I can prevent the Dragon Seed from growing. You will not see me for some time, I do not know how long, but I will always be with you, Percy. These last few years have been some of the happiest I've ever had, I don't want to give this up, but your safety is my highest priority. One day, hopefully, when I have managed to contain the Dragon Seed Permanently, I will reemerge, but until then, this is farewell." Percy's eyes started brimming with tears as he looked at his adopted father. "Hey now, what's with that look? I thought I didn't raise a quitter." Percy wiped his eyes and smiled at Ignia.

"I know, dad, I'll miss you." Percy clenched his fist. "I swear here and now, I'll always strive my hardest to make you proud. I am Percy Jackson, Son of Ignia, the Fire Dragon God!" Ignia smiled at his son.

"I know you will, Percy." Ignia got to his feet. "Now, before I begin, I'm going to be sending you on a journey, a place where you will be safe. It's called Camp Half-Blood. I won't lie to you, Percy. It will be a long journey, but I'm confident that you can make it; I'm going to make you a map; follow me." Percy jumped off his bed and followed Ignia as he walked towards a hidden section of their home. "Do you remember what I told you about this section?"

"Never go here; it's dangerous."

"Good, but I lied about the reason; I wanted to surprise you." Ignia pushed the boulder that was blocking the section off. Ignia ignited his index finger, and the small flame illuminated the cavern. Percy saw a pile of scales; some were pure white, while some were a pale red, and others were the same color as Ignia's scales. Next to them was an enormous collection of treasure, glittering Golden coins, silver, jewels, and gemstones, some smaller than Percy's pinky toe, others larger than his head. There was even armor, some ancient covered in cobwebs and dust, others looked fresher.

"T-This is your hoard." Percy looked at his father. "And those are your scales."

"Indeed, this collection has come from thousands of humans who have tried to kill me. Norse, Hindu, Greek, Roman, and even a few Shinto. All of them sent champions against me." Ignia crossed his arms, a satisfied look on his face. "Naturally, they all failed. This collection has been amassed in this cave for nearly twenty thousand years. "

"Wow, you are an old man."

"Oh shut it, you brat!" Ignia flicked his son in the forehead. "Keep this up, and I won't give you the present I wanted to give you."

"Sorry, dad." Percy rubbed the back of his head. Ignia grabbed the pile of fresh scales. Ignia grabbed a small bag, then put the scales inside the bag, then tied it shut. Then he handed the bag to Percy. "You're giving me scales?"

"Yes, I've placed a small enchantment on those scales. They'll grow with you if you fashion them into clothes or armor."

"How did you do that?"

"Asked Hecate for a favor." Ignia kneeled to look his son in the eyes. "I'm giving you enough to form several sets of clothes and a couple sets of armor. It's my way of always protecting you, Percy." Percy rubbed his eyes as tears started forming in them again. "Now, let's go back out; I'm going to seal this cave again, then perform the sealing technique." Ignia and Percy started walking out when Ignia paused. "Oh, that's right, I almost forgot." Ignia walked over and grabbed a small pile of gold coins. "These are Golden Drachma, the currency of the Immortal." Ignia placed them in a pouch. "And there's one more thing since I won't be back here for only Gods know how long. I'm going to give you an early birthday present."

"You've already given me more than enough." Percy clutched the bag of scales. Ignia smiled and shook his head.

"Everything I've given you is to help you survive. This is because I don't trust anyone else." Ignia held up a small bag. "This is a money pouch. I'll place my treasures, everything I've collected, even my scales, within this pouch." Percy tilted his head, confused.

"How is all this?" Percy motioned at the enormous pile of scales and treasure. "Going to fit in that tiny bag?" Ignia smiled.

"I've enchanted this bag to connect to an alternate space. This bag is the only way in and out." (A/N: Yes, it's a bag of holding from Dungeons and Dragons.) Ignia waved his hand, and the pile of treasure and the scales flew into the bag after everything emptied out. Ignia kneeled down and tied it to Percy's hip. Ignia and Percy walked out of the cave, then Ingia moved the boulder back into place. Ignia and Percy walked to the cave entrance. Ignia grabbed a piece of paper and unfurled it. "Come here, Percy." Percy walked over to Ignia, and he saw it was a map. Percy looked at the map. It showed New York and the mountains where Percy and Ignia lived. The glow was over an Island; Percy struggled for a few seconds to read it. "This map will guide you to Long Island and a place you will be safe."

"Long Island." Percy mused aloud. "It's a long walk." Percy grabbed the map and saw a little floating marker that read 'Percy.' Percy smiled a bit. "Guess you don't want me getting lost." Percy folded up the map and placed it in his backpack. Then he looked at Ignia.

"Looks like you're ready," Ignia smiled at his son. "In the past, this technique would require me to abandon my physical body, meaning once I'm ready to re-emerge, I would die not too long after that." Percy's eyes widened in horror at the thought of losing his adopted father. "But no longer. With Hecate's help, I refined the technique over the last two years. So, if you're ready, let's get started."

"Alright, dad." Ignia returned to his Draconic form and smiled at Percy.

"Until we meet again, Percy." Ignia glowed orange, and his body started turning transparent, and in a blinding flash, Ignia vanished with Percy standing alone in the cave. Percy took one last look at the place that he called home. Percy walked out, then jumped down to a ledge below him and began trekking down the mountain.

(Time Skip Three hours later)

Percy had made it down the mountain, and he looked around.

"Okay, the map said I need to go south." Percy looked up at the sky and saw the sun rising to his left. "Okay, so that's convenient. I'm already facing south." Percy gained a determined look. "Alright, old man, I'll make you proud." Percy started walking.

(Time skip Four days later)

Percy's clothes were in tatters as he hiked through the mountain range. Ever since leaving the mountain cave, he had been attacked by all sorts of creatures—bears, wolves, and, worst of all, monsters. Percy pulled off his undershirt, glaring into the darkness around him.

"Stupid monsters, ripping the clothes Ignia made me!" Percy put the shirt in his backpack and pulled out his map. He looked it over and sighed. "Four days of hiking, and I'm only a quarter of the way." Percy shook his head. "No excuses, just like Ignia taught you." Percy put the map back into his backpack and continued walking. After a few hours of walking, Percy sniffed the air, and the smell of Pig reached his nose. Just then, a huge boar burst from the undergrowth and snorted while glaring at Percy. "I don't have time for this." Percy clasps his hands together. "FIRE DRAGON JAW!" Percy shot forward, slamming his hands down on the boar, causing it to ignite. The boar didn't even have time to squeal as the flames engulfed it; when the fire cleared, Percy's stomach growled, reminding him that he hadn't eaten yet. Percy reached into his backpack and pulled out the hunting knife his father gave him for his seventh birthday. Percy looked at the knife. It had a small red pearl on the pommel. The blade was the same red as Ignia's scales. Percy smiled a bit as he remembered when Ignia gave him the knife.

(Flashback One year ago)

Percy was reading one of the books his father gave him when he heard the sound of his Father landing at the cave entrance. Percy looked up to see Ignia walking back in, and he smiled.

"Hi, dad!" Percy put the book down and ran over to his father.

"Hello, Percy." Ignia smiled. "You know what today is, right?" Percy scratched his head for a bit.

"Thursday?"

"So it's just an ordinary day to you, huh?" Ignia's smile widened a bit. "Well, I guess you don't want your gift."

"GIFT!" Percy's eyes started sparkling. "What is it?"

"You'll have to wait for your birthday to find out."

"But, dad, it is my birthday." Percy pouted, glaring at Ignia, who started laughing.

"So now you remember." Percy's scowl deepened, "Come now, what's with the look?" Ignia shifted to his human form. "Close your eyes and hold out your hands."

"Okay, dad." Percy closed his eyes as he held his hands. Percy felt a heavy weight in his outstretched hands.

"Okay, open your eyes." Percy opened his eyes and saw a knife. "I told you that you'd get a hunting knife when you were ready." Ignia smiled. "Happy Birthday, Percy." Percy threw his arms around his father.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Percy repeated over and over again while Ignia laughed.

(End flashback)

"Dad." Percy's stomach growled again, bringing him back to reality. "Calm down, stomach," Percy scolded. "I'll eat the boar." Percy walked forward when multiple scents barraged his nose, and he looked around to see several girls with bows and arrows pointed at him.

"Not one step, boy!" One of the girls in the center growled. She had brown eyes, a slightly upturned nose, copper-colored skin, and the silver circlet braided into the top of her long, dark hair. "How dare thee steal Lady Artemis' kill!"

"Steal?" Percy tilted his head, "this boar attacked me, I killed it, and now I'm going to eat him."

"Eat him?!" The girl replied. "And why would thee want to do that?"

"Oh, I don't know, MAYBE BECAUSE I HAVEN'T EATEN ANYTHING TODAY!"

"So first thee steal our kill, then thee wish to eat it for no other reason than carnal satisfaction?! Not going to happen." Percy's fists ignited.

"You don't want this fight."

"Like Tartarus, we don't!" another girl shouted, forming a fireball in her hand. "And your little flaming hand trick doesn't scare me!" The girl thrust her hand out, and the ball of fire shot at Percy. Percy smiled just before the fireball collided, exploding.

"Paloma!" Zoe reprimanded as she turned to her fellow huntress. "That was reckless. What would have happened if the forest caught on fire because of-"

"Man," Percy's voice called out, "This is some tasty fire. I never had anything like dad's before." Zoe and the other hunters turned in shock to see Percy standing over the boar, his mouth open as he consumed the flames. In a few seconds, the fire that Paloma shot at him had vanished completely. "Thanks for the meal." Percy wiped his mouth. "Now I've got a fire in my belly that's raging to get out."

"What the hell?" another hunter whispered in shock.

"How did thee do that?!" Zoe demanded.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" Percy replied as he inhaled, summoning his magic power.

"Enough!" A new voice called out, disrupting Percy's focus, and a new girl stepped from the shadows. She looked around twelve or thirteen, with cold and bright eyes as silvery yellow as the winter and auburn hair gathered back in a ponytail. "Zoe, this kill belongs to this young boy."

"My lady?" Zoe turned to this new girl.

"I am curious, boy." Then, the girl turned to face Percy, "what power is it that gives you such command over fire?" Percy looked at this girl.

"Her scent was unlike anything I've ever smelled before." Percy's body started trembling a bit. "Who is she?"

"Lady Artemis, ask thee a question, boy!" Zoe shouted, aiming her bow at Percy's chest.

"Zoe," Artemis ordered, "stand down!"

"Yes, my lady." Zoe unnocked her arrow, placing it back in her quiver.

"You're Artemis?" Percy asked, shocked.

"Yes," Artemis replied. "now, you have yet to answer my question."

"Because my father taught me Dragon Slayer Magic." Many hunters looked unnerved by that answer, and even Zoe's eyes widened in shock.

"Interesting." Artemis mused, "Who is your father?"

"Ignia, the Fire Dragon God."

"Thee lie!" Zoe shouted. "Ignia has no love for anyone other than himself. So why would he agree to raise thee?"

"Ignia said it was a favor to my real father."

"Interesting." Artemis thought as Percy answered. "I can't think of Ignia owing any Olympian a favor, but he's clearly a Greek Demigod." Then, a thought occurred to Artemis. "And where is Ignia?" Percy placed a hand over his heart.

"He's in my soul." Artemis looked confused.

"How is he in your soul?"

"He, uh, that's weird; I don't remember how. It only happened four days ago."

"Curious," Artemis replied, then she saw Percy's backpack. "That's quite the adventuring gear. So, where are you going?"

"Some place called 'Long Island.' I'm walking there." Artemis' eyes widened in shock.

"Where did you start from?" Percy pulled out the map Ignia gave him, then pointed to the mountains near Lake Ontario.

"This is where Dad and I lived, but now he wants me to walk to Long Island. He said I'd be safe there."

"How long have you been walking?"

"About four days." Artemis' eyes nearly bulged out of her skull.

"Why would Ignia make you walk to Long Island Sound?"

"Because Ignia didn't raise a quitter." Artemis' jaw dropped, and even some of the hunters stood there, stunned looks on their faces.

"This boy, he's been walking for four days, dealing with monsters and beasts. I knew Ignia was brutal, but to make a child do this. What is that old lizard thinking?" Artemis looked at Percy, who was eying the boar, hungrily as his stomach growled again. "Zoe." Artemis addressed her lieutenant. "We're setting up camp here."

"As you wish," Zoe replied as she knelt, "My Lady."

"Can I take the boar now?" Percy asked.

"Naturally," Artemis replied, "It is your kill; you took it down."

"Okay," Percy hoisted the boar over his shoulders, "goodbye, Lady Artemis." Percy started walking away.

"Where are you going?" Percy stopped.

"Well, you said you're setting up camp, and according to all those legends my dad had me read, you don't like boys near your hunters."

"While that is true, you will camp with us." At this, the hunters looked at Artemis, shocked.

"But," Zoe protested, "My Lady, he is a boy." Artemis looked at her lieutenant.

"I am well aware, Zoe, but this demigod is making his way to camp, and I will not allow him to walk the remaining two hundred and twenty miles to Long Island." Artemis looked at Percy. "As for you, this is not something I do lightly, and the only reason I am allowing this is you have been lucky so far. The closer you get to Olympus, the more powerful monsters you will encounter. Inevitably, your luck will run out, and you will die before reaching the island."

"I've had no problem with the monsters I've encountered."

"Yes, because they are weak, but as you get closer to Long Island, you might encounter Cyclopes, Harpies, or even more powerful monsters. And trust me, boy, your power over fire will not serve you against a Cyclops, for they are immune to fire. Now, you should cook your kill, but don't get comfortable. We shall depart at daybreak, and if you are not ready by then, we will leave you behind, Percy Jackson." Percy turned around, dropping the boar as he did, shock apparent on his face.

"How do you know my name?"

"Because I knew your mother, Sally. She was one of my hunters fifty years ago." Percy's eyes started to tear up as he remembered his mother, then he shook his head, forcing the tears away.

"Dad always said, 'Getting depressed about the past won't change it.'" Artemis noticed the tears as he shook them away.

"Did something happen?" Percy looked at the ground, still trying to fight the tears.

"My mom's dead; she died three years ago."

"How did she die?"

"G-Gas explosion." Percy's voice was choked a bit as all the memories of his mother's funeral came rushing back. "It's, it's all my fault. If I'd never been born, she wouldn't be dead."

"Survivor's guilt," Artemis observed.

"Stop, Percy." Percy punched himself in the jaw, shocking several of the hunters and Artemis. "stop getting depressed about something you can't change. You're not weak; Ignia didn't raise a quitter."

"This poor kid," One of the hunters observed, "he never even got the time to grieve, and now he blames himself, thinking it is weakness."

"There is nothing weak about grieving the loss of someone you care about." Artemis spoke, her voice softer. "Even we gods grieve when this happens." Percy sniffed, wiping his nose, then igniting his hand, burning everything off it.

"T-thank you, Lady Artemis." Percy smiled, then got to work cooking the boar he'd dropped.

(Time skip 4 hours later)

Percy had eaten the boar and cleaned the remains. He was sitting on the ground in front of Artemis, who had a doe lying in her lap.

"So," Percy started, breaking the silence. "You and Ignia mentioned a camp. What is it?"

"It is a special camp for children like yourself."

"You mean there are others raised by dragons?" Percy's eyes sparkled a bit, his face alight with excitement.

"No, young Percy." Artemis smiled sadly. "I mean, other demigods, I'm quite sure you're the only child who will be there that was raised by a dragon." Percy's face fell a bit as he was told this.

"Darn, and here I was hoping to meet another Dragon Slayer."

"Just because you will not find another Dragon Slayer, you will still be able to make friends." Artemis got to her feet. "Well, I suggest we get some sleep and remember what I told you."

"Okay." Percy grabbed his backpack and started pulling out his camping supplies, set up his tent, lay down in his sleeping bag, closed his eyes, and went to sleep.

(Time Skip Two days later)

Percy and the hunters had parted ways two hours ago. Percy was sitting on a rock that Artemis had told him to wait on. Percy was watching the sky as the clouds passed overhead.

"Lady Artemis told me not to leave his spot until a Satyr comes and finds me." Percy sighed, "But I'm getting so bored." Percy swung his feet which hovered above the ground. "I wish something exciting would happen." The wind shifted, and an unknown scent filled Percy's nostrils. Percy stopped instantly, sniffing the air.

"You've done well, Percy." Ignia's voice called. Percy dropped into the stance his father taught him. "What's wrong, Percy, don't want to see your old man?"

"Stop pretending you're Ignia. I don't know who you are, but I won't let you insult Ignia!"

"What do you mean, Percy? It's me."

"FIRE DRAGON: ROAR!" Percy unleashed a jet of flames blasting away the surrounding forest, revealing a tall, muscular man. His body was covered in scars, but what freaked Percy out the most was the large brown eye instead of two eyes. "A Cyclops." Percy backed up slightly, remembering what Artemis and Ignia had told him about the creatures.

"And now it makes sense." The Cyclops spoke in a different voice than before. "You're a Dragon Slayer. You were able to smell me. But, unfortunately for you, demigod, fire doesn't work on me." Percy reached for the hunting knife on his hip. Percy looked down at the dagger. Unlike the hunting knife Ignia had given him, this knife was pure bronze. Artemis had explained to him that while his Dragon Slayer magic was powerful, it was always wise to carry Celestial Bronze on him at all times.

"So this is why Lady Artemis gave me this knife." Percy gulped a bit as he looked at the Cyclops.

"Afraid? I don't blame you."

"I'm not afraid," Percy protested, adrenaline pumping through his veins. "I'm all fired up!"

"Then come at me, DEMIGOD!" The Cyclops ripped a nearby tree from the ground, wielding it like a club.

"I pity da foo' who be picking on demigods in Thaddeus' turf!" A new voice shouted, and a Satyr stepped out from behind a nearby cliffside. The Satyr was easily six feet tall, a deep chocolate brown from the waist up. From the waist down, he was a goat. However, the human half of him was muscular, and it was clear this satyr favored combat.

"Why don't you run along, little goat-man, before you end up my lunch!"

"Listen here, foo' Thaddeus ain't scared of some mono-eyed bitch who picks on little kids."

"You're getting on my nerves."

"Oooh, I'm sorry, did Thaddeus touch a nerve? Do something about it, bitch, or you too much of a coward to square up 'gainst Thaddeus." Percy watched in shock as the Saytr trashed talked the Cyclops.

"Aren't Satyr's supposed to be afraid of Cyclops?" Percy wondered to himself. "What is going on here?" Percy tensed his legs. "Well, I'm not about to let someone fight my battles for me." Percy shot forward, flames propelling him forward. "Fire Dragon Talons!" Percy slammed his foot down on the Cyclpes head, who didn't even flinch from the impact.

"Didn't I already tell you? Fire doesn't work on me." The cyclops backhanded Percy sending him crashing into a tree. Percy slammed to the ground, pain erupting from his body as he heard a couple of his ribs break. Percy got back to his feet, a determined look in his eyes. "And still, you get up. You are braver than most, demigod."

"As long as I can still breathe." Percy started, "I can still fight!"

"This little foo's got heart." Thaddeus mused to himself. "But if he keeps this up, he's only going to get himself killed." Thaddeus unhooked a club from his belt. "Just stay back, ya foo." Thaddeus instructed Percy.

"Ignia didn't raise a quitter." Percy countered.

"Sure does sound like Ignia raised an idiot."

"WHAT DID YOU SAY!?" an aura of fire burst to life, engulfing Percy. The nearby ocean started steaming from the heat. Percy unsheathed the dagger from his hip. Percy charged in, fire propelling him forward. The cyclops swung the tree at Percy, who stabbed the dagger into the tree. "FIRE DRAGON: BURNING FANG!" The flames engulfed the tree, reducing it to ashes in a matter of seconds. Percy ran at the cyclops and stabbed it right in the leg.

"OW!" The cyclops growled in pain, then backhanded Percy causing him to crash into the water. "Some demigods never lea-" The cyclops was cut off by Thaddeus bashing the monster's head in. Percy climbed to his feet and out walked out of the water. When he did, Percy felt a lot of strength leave him.

"Mr. Thaddeus, Sir!" Another voice called, and a small satyr came running from behind the cliff where Thaddeus had popped out from behind. The younger satyr was huffing, trying to catch his breath. "Y-You know I can't run as fast as you."

"Grover ya little foo'," Thaddeus spoke, turning to face him. "We need to get this half-blood back to camp."

"Y-yes, sir." Grover walked over to Percy. "S-So, what's your name?"

"Percy," Percy replied happily, "Percy Jackson."

"My name is Grover," Grover held his hand out to Percy, who tilted his head. "It's nice to meet you."

"What are you doing?"

"A handshake?" Grover replied, confused. "It's how people greet each other."

"Oh," Percy gripped the extended hand, and Grover shook it. "It's nice to meet you, too."

"Now that you little foo's have introduced yourselves," Thaddeus spoke, "Grover and I are here to escort you to Camp Half-Blood."

"Okay," Percy looked at the older Satyr. "Just let me grab my backpack." Percy walked back over to the rock he had been sitting on and picked up the backpack lying next to it. Percy shouldering it. "Alright, ready when you are." The trio began walking up the coast. "So, what's this 'Camp Half-Blood' like? Lady Artemis told me a little bit, but nothing much."

"You met Artemis?!" Grover looked over at Percy, shocked.

"Yeah, I ran into her and her hunters on my way from Lake Ontario."

"And she didn't try to turn you into a jackalope?"

"No, apparently, my mom," Percy choked back the memories of his mother. "My mom used to be one of her hunters." Percy looked down at the ground. "According to Lady Artemis, my mother had the strongest will of any human she'd ever met." The trio made their way up the beach towards a hill with an enormous pine tree standing at the top. "Woah!" Percy looked at the pine tree in shock. "That's a big tree. I'd bet that would take at least six fire dragon roars to burn." Grover and Thaddeus looked at Percy. Grover looked horrified, while Thaddeus was ready to facepalm at the comments of the Dragon Slayer.

"Percy," Grover protested, "That tree is what protects Camp from monsters."

"Oh," Percy replied, "Sorry, I didn't know."

"This little foo' has a few screws loose upstairs." Thaddeus observed the trio traveled in silence and walked past the tree. When they did, Percy saw the valley below him. The entire valley had buildings the likes of which Percy had never seen before.

"Because Ignia is a dragon, he couldn't take me into the city all that often. I've never seen anything like this."

"Welcome, Little Foo'" Thaddeus spoke, breaking Percy out of his shock. "To Camp Half-Blood."
