Evan fell into a restless sleep on the waiting room chair.
"I'm worried about him, hell I'm worried about them all, but I don't know how Evan will be if he loses Kelly or Sky or god forbid both of them." Casey says to the few firefighters that are left as the rest went home. All that's left is Boden and Donna, Herman and Cindy, Mouch and Trudy, Eddie and Stella and Brett and Casey, as well as Cruz and Chole and Tony and his wife and Capp and his girlfriend.
"I know, we all have to be there for him, for all of them especially right now." Herman says, with everyone nodding their agreements.
Eddie can't believe how much 51 truly is a family, they just keep proving it time and time again. He's so thankful that he came to Chicago.
Casey's lost in his thoughts, todays events reminded him of all those years ago when he had a beam fall on his head and he had a TBI, he wouldn't wish that on anyone especially his best friend, his brother. He knows that if something happens to Kelly he will have to step up and be there for Evan but he doesn't know how the loss would affect him either. He can't Imagine losing another friend to this damn job.
Boden sees the wheels in Casey's head turning and he speaks softly to the truck captain.
"You okay Casey? I know this can't be easy on you. You and Kelly have been like brothers since the academy and I know with Kelly having a TBI and the beam falling on him must have brought back some bad memories for you, from when you had the same thing happen to you along with a TBI."
Casey sighs and rubs a hand over his face when Eddie asks "you had a TBI as well?"
Casey nods "almost ten years ago now." Eddie nods
Then Casey replies to Boden "Yes, Kelly and I have been like brothers since the academy and I can't imagine not having him around but I know I have to step and be there for Evan if something happens to him. Kelly would want that and yea I was just thinking about that day actually."
Boden nods just as Natalie comes out Casey wakes up Evan who is startled awake. When he sees Natilie he rushes to her.
"How is Sky?" Evan asks, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"We have a match for her. Another girl from the fire didn't make it unfortunately, she was eight, but her lungs wasn't affected it was her heart as she was to badly burnt and had a heart attack. We need you to sign some papers to do the transplant." Natalie says.
Evan feels bad for the little girl that died but he's so happy his little girl is going to be okay..
Evan nods, saying "I'll sign whatever you need just help my baby girl please." Natalie nods and gives Evan the clipboard of paperwork to fill out.
Evan fills in out and signs where he has to then hands it back to Natalie, asking "can I see her before she goes to sugary?"
"Sure one other person can go with you as well." Natalie says. Evan nods then turns to Casey, then asks "will you come with me Casey? Please?"
Casey is taken by surprise but nods, saying "of course." Casey kisses Brett on the forehead then heads towards Sky's room with Evan.
Once in the room, Evan sees his baby girl hooked up to so many machines and a ventilator, Evan sobs at the sight of his daughter but Casey quickly puts his hand on Evan's shoulder. The little girl that has worked her way into her uncle's heart looks so helpless and small in the bed. Casey can't believe that Sky is so sick, he needs her to make it not only for her fathers but for the whole firehouse.
Evan interrupts Casey's thoughts by saying, " you know Kelly and I have seen how much you and Brett have bonded with the kids and we where going to ask you to be all four of theirs God parents. We wanted both you and Sylvie to be their Godparents in case something happened to both of us we knew that you and Sylvie would take them in and be there for them. So I guess what I'm asking is will you be their Godparents I wish Kelly was here to ask with me but I need to know that even if it's just me left to parent them that I'd have their Godparents help." Evan says rambling.
"Of course! We would be honoured, you should ask Sylvie personally but I know she'd be honoured to. And Evan no matter what happens not only will Sylvie and I be there for you and the kids the whole house will be." Casey tells the man who's become a really good friend to him.
"Okay I will, and thank you Matt that means a lot to me." Evan says then he kisses his daughter's hair and whispers "I love you princess, you're going to be fine, you have a whole firehouse waiting for you for when you wake up."
"We Are all here for you sweets, we all love you. You need to be ok." Casey says with tears in his eyes as he kisses sky's hair. .
They leave the room and watch as Natalie and her team wheel Skylar into the OR.
Evan cry's but he hopes and prays that she will be ok.
He goes back to the waiting room with Casey, he sits across from Casey and Sylvie, beside boden and Donna, he looks at Sylvie as he says "Sylvie, I just asked Matt but I want to ask you as well." Sylvie nods her encouragement for Evan to continue, so he does. "Kelly and I have been talking and we want you and Matt to be all four kids Godparents, it just seems right and we know you both would step up and be there for them if something happened to us both." Evan explained.
Sylvie gasps in shock, she's so honoured to have them think of her. She figured Matt would be a Godparent to their kids but she didn't think they'd ask her as well.
"Of course Evan I'd be honoured! Thank you for thinking of me!" Sylvie says as tears stream down her cheeks.
Eddie overhears the conversation between the two, and feels hurt, he figured Evan would ask him.
"No problem Sylvie!" Evan says, just then Dr. Connor Rhodes comes out, Evan jumps up and goes over to him. "How's Kelly?" Evan asks.
"He's stable. We got the brain bleed under control, the vertebrae in his neck was easier to fix then we expected. All in all he should be back to work in a month." Connor says and Evan sighs a sigh of relief.
"Thank God! Can I see him?" Evan asks, desperately needing to see his husband.
"Of course, you and one other can see him for tonight, then in the morning once we move him out of the ICU, you all can see him." Connor says
"Thanks Connor, Casey you wanna come with me?" Evan asks the captain, who nods and says to Sylvie "I will be right back." Sylvie shakes her head saying "stay with them tonight I'll be fine." "Are you sure?" Matt asks then Stella pipes up saying "we have the guest bedroom she can spend the night with us if you want to Brett."
"Thanks I think I will. I'll be fine Matt, I love you." Sylvie says kissing Matt then leaves with Eddie and Stella everyone else leaves after telling Evan how happy they are to hear the good news and to keep them updated.
Casey and Evan make their way down to Kelly's room,
Evan stops in the doorway, he lets a sob escape him when he sees his husband, he's hooked up on so many machines and has a bandage on his head. He looks so broken, which is very unlike Kelly Severide.
Casey puts a comforting hand on Evans shoulder, then says "it looks worse then it is, according to the doctors, we gotta stay positive for both him and Sky."
Evan nods knowing Casey's right.
They each pull up a chair to each side of Kelly's bed.
Evan takes Kelly's left hand, while Casey rests his elbows on his knees and stares at Kelly like he's willing the man to wake up.
There's silence, only the sound of the machines around them. Casey breaks the silence first, by saying: "You know he loves you and the family and life you guys have built together, he tells me all the time how lucky he is that you took him back."
Evan sighs then says "I know I'm the lucky one that he came and fought for me, I honestly thought I had burnt that bridge. I'm just glad he forgave me and we are married and have the life we want now." Evan explained
"He was scared you wouldn't want him back, after everything he put you through. That's why it took him so long. It took me and Stella to convince him to fight, even if it meant finding out you were over him. He admitted that you were worth it even if it meant coming back with a broken heart, he just needed to know." Casey explained.
"I never truly moved on, yea I had a few relationships but nothing that stuck, Kelly was always on my mind, he's my soulmate you know." Evan explained, rubbing his thumb over Kelly's wedding band.
"I know, he says the same about you. He tried with Stella, but it didn't last and now they are both happier apart than they were together." Casey says, Evan nods, the silence takes over once again. Casey and Evan both fall asleep.
Around 5am Evan was woken by Kelly saying his name.
"Ev? Evan?" Kelly asks and then he opens his eyes and they land on his gorgeous husband..
"Hi!" Evan chokes out…
