Kate hadn't been to La Push since she was three, before she could decide if she wanted to visit or not. It was a nice beach, well, nice enough for Washington, but she always made an attempt to distance herself from the plot.
Edward Cullen ruined that, so she went to La Push with Nicole and the rest of their plans. Nicole's mom drove them, and promised to pick them up in a few hours.
Parker and one of his friends were goofing off. Matt was holding up a stick with a mysterious stain at the end, chasing Parker around with it, who was yelling for Mercy. Charlotte and Nicole were discussing their favorite shade of lipstick, which came about because last week was Charlotte's birthday, and her mom bought her several new lipsticks, in new colors.
It was the very beggining of September, and the air had already lost some of its summer warmth. Kate wasn't dressed for the beach, none of them were, and wished she would have chosen a long sleeved t-shirt instead of her tanktop.
"Oh," Nicole said, breaking off the conversation, "are those boys from the Rez?"
Charlotte and Kate followed her line of vision. There was a group of tanned boys, all around their ages, making their way towards them.
One raisd their arm aqnd waved in a greeting, Kate waved back. "Hey!" He called, now within speaking distance, "I'm Jacob."
She smiled, "Kate."
