Chapter 8 – An Unexpected Kiss

Izzie and the other girls were talking about Moulin, the guest teacher. She had no idea how she got into the group but maybe the drinks she already has is how they lured her into their giggling group. They all looked up when they heard a loud booming laughter. James was doubled over laughing while Sirius was standing next to him, looking slightly bored. She shot them a smile before one of the girls drew her attention.

"Merlin, those are really two of the most handsome boys in school." She waved her hand in front of her.

"Have you seen Sirius's tattoos? That's really hot." Another said.

"I wish I could kiss him again." One of them nearly drooled. "But-" She frowned. "He seemed to have gone celibate, hasn't he? Haven't seen him with anyone for a while."

"Maybe he's better at hiding it. Maybe, I should try again."

Okay, Izzie had enough. Afraid they would start asking her questions, she quickly dislodged herself from the group and walked over to her friends. Alright, maybe it wasn't just about asking questions, she may have felt a little twinge of anger of all the girls that had been involved with Sirius. She was barely listening to what Marlene and Lily were talking about, her stubborn head on Sirius. She couldn't like him. He was cocky, overconfident, and a flirt, a big flirt. He has hinted more than once that he wanted to kiss her, but she knew why that was, it was just because -

"Hey, I'm going to slip out." Remus suddenly whispered, bringing her out of her thoughts.

"Reg?" She whispered back, and he nodded with a blush. "Right, I'll just tell them you fell ill." She kissed his cheek. "Have fun." Izzie wiggled her eyebrows. Remus stuck out his tongue before he stalked off.

"Where are you going, Moony?" She heard Sirius ask. Remus mumbled something about feeling queasy before he stumbled further. The next second, Sirius was standing next to her, throwing an arm around her shoulders. "Hello, little Charmer."

"Padfoot." She nodded, ignoring the flutter in her stomach. She eyed his arm, that leaned loosely over her shoulder. "Can I help you?"

He grinned broadly, he leaned down and she could smell the whiskey on his breath as he whispered. "What were you girls talking about?"

"You, obviously." She rolled her eyes. "Why? Afraid what your conquests might tell me?" She licked her lips before smirking up at him. Sirius's gaze was fixed on her lips, he cleared his throat.

"No, they have nothing to complain about."

"Oh." She chuckled. "A little big headed, aren't you?"

"You know me." He was still grinning.

"That I do." She ducked out from under his arm. She needed to get away from the smell of whiskey, leather and rain, especially if they were talking about his exes. She darted to the bar. She poured herself some whiskey and saw James in the corner of the room, sitting on the floor. With an eyeroll she headed his way. "Can I join you?" She asked the obviously drunken boy.

"I always have room for the prettiest girl in the room. Sit down, my little Charmer."

"Oh, forgotten about Lily, have you?" She chuckled as she sat down next to him. She glanced over to where Lily was standing. Marlene had gone, only Sirius remained. They were both looking at them.

"Never, but I think I'm ready to give up the chase."

"Thé James Potter is giving up?" She laughed. "I can't believe it. Just when it was working."

"What?!" He looked at me blurry eyed.

"She's looking at us." She whispered in his ear.

He looked over her shoulder, before whispering back. "He's looking at us."

"Sirius is not Lily."

"Good eye." He giggled. James Potter giggled! "Lily is a boy and Sirius is a girl. Wait! That's not right." He frowned and Izzie burst out laughing. She placed her hand on his leg.

"See?" She whispered in James' ear. Lily had her back straightened as she looked their way. She didn't dare to look at Sirius, but James did.

"He's going to murder me." He said but in his drunken mood, he nuzzled her neck.

"Oh, come on. Sirius just wants to snog me because I'm the only girl who has said no to him." She chuckled dryly. She cupped his cheek to pull him away from her neck, because this was getting a bit too much.

"Well, it is really appealing." He murmured and before Izzie had a chance to respond with something comical. He had kissed her. His lips moved against hers, and he tasted like alcohol, just like she did probably. He grasped both of her cheeks and deepened the kiss. Wolf whistles and catcalls were heard above the music, and that was what made her pull back. They looked at each other, rather stunned, before they started laughing uncontrollably.

"Lily's going to be so mad!" Izzie said, just when James' said. "Sirius is going to be so mad!"

With that, they laughed again. Neither of them dared a glance in their direction. But Izzie waved her hand to conjure a bottle of water. "Here." She handed it over after she took a few swigs.

"Thanks." He gulped almost the whole bottle down. "What did we do?"

"You kissed me."

"You wanted to make Lily jealous." He countered.

"Not by kissing." She laughed, then waved her hand. "She'll get over it."

They stayed seated for the next thirty minutes, downing another bottle of water. Both of their heads clearer. James glanced over to where Lily was talking to Mary, her eyes flittering back and forth between them.

"I think I'll go talk to her."

"Goodluck, Potter." She clapped his back. She pushed his back and he clambered to his feet. He readjusted his clothes, ruffled his unruly hair, before he looked over his shoulder to her.

"I'll be sure to mention you're an amazing kisser, little Charmer."

"Don't you dare, Potter." She laughed. He winked before he walked over to the girl of his dreams.

Izzie leaned her head against the wall, bringing the bottle of water to her lips. With every sip, her mind got clearer but she also got more tired. She pushed herself up from the ground, bus swayed a little on her legs.

"Hey, there." Sirius wrapped his arm around her, holding her up. "You okay?"

"Yeah, just a little tired." She leaned into him. He rubbed her arm softly.

"Let's get you up to the tower, yeah?" He whispered in her hair, which had a citrus scent. She hummed, leaning her head in his chest.

"What about Ja-" She started but someone called out to them.

"You already snogged James, lay your hands off Sirius!" Izzie's head snapped over her shoulder, while Sirius stiffened next to her. It was one of the girls she was talking to earlier, the one who was drooling over Sirius.

"Fuck off, Denise! You're just jealous because you haven't been laid in months!" Mary called to her, making the room laugh.

"Let's go." Sirius whispered, not letting her go.

"I haven't been laid in months either." She mused, still a little tipsy.

Sirius chuckled, making her head bounce on his chest. "Me neither." That statement shocked her to be honest, but she was smart enough to school her features. "What about that Roger type?"

"Kissing and heavy petting." She shrugged against him. "Never felt safe with him. Need to feel safe." She said drowsily. Sirius looked down at her and wondered what she had gone through that she needed to feel that safe with anyone. Now he understood why Remus was her first. They both had said it, they trusted each other with their lives. She tripped over her own feet and they both nearly fell on the hard stone floor. Without hesitation, he picked her up, bridal style.

"What are you doing?" She asked frowning, but her voice was soft.

"Carrying you, obviously." He grinned.

"What about James? He's too drunk to go back alone."

"He's too heavy to carry, besides Lily took him back five minutes ago."

She gripped the front of his shirt, nuzzling her nose in it. "You smell nice."

"You too." He chuckled. "Like a citrus fruit." She snorted a little, her eyes closed. "Is this okay? Do you – do you feel safe?" He asked carefully as he started walking up the stairs. Her grip on his shirt tightened and she shifted a little, her head closer to his thundering heart.

"You're safe." She mumbled before she succumbed to sleep, her grip loosened on his shirt. To say Sirius wasn't grinning like a madman as he climbed up the stairs, would be a lie. Even her kiss with James couldn't damper his mood. When he reached the common room, it was empty. He walked over to the girls' staircase.

"Izzie, wake up, love."

"Hm." She made a single noise and buried her face further into his chest.

"Iz." He shook his arms a little but to no avail. With a sigh and a sweet smile, he started climbing the boys' staircase. Remus his curtains around his bed were closed. James was lying on his stomach, snoring very loudly, his matrass was drenched with drool. Peter's curtains were still open, and his bed was empty, probably still at the party. He walked over silently to his bed, trying not to wake anyone. He laid her down softly, when he pulled back, her grip on his shirt tightened again.

"Shh, it's okay." He said softly, caressing the hand on his shirt. Her grip lessened and he could take her hand in his. She was wearing skinny jeans, with thigh high black boots and a simple black top. The moment he saw her, his heart stopped for a second, because damn. He conjured two baggy sweatpants from him and with a wave of his wand switched one with her jeans, pulled off her boots and then he changed for himself. Which wasn't easy because she still had a grip on his hand. He pulled the pin from her hair, making it fall over her shoulders before he placed it on the nightstand.

"Goodnight, love." He kissed the top of her head. He nicked James' pillow, since his head was now hanging over the side anyway and laid down on the floor. He took the extra blanket on the end of his bed and covered himself with it. All with one hand, as he was still holding hers. He turned to his side to look at her, she looked peaceful and undisturbed. He wanted to let her sleep a little more comfortably, so he tried to pull his hand away. But in her sleep, the loss of touch made her brows furrow. He took her hand back in his, and the crinkle disappeared. He smiled a little, but was also worried for her, what might wait for her when she got back home for Christmas. If it was anything like his and Regulus... Even the thought made him shiver.

Remus stumbled back in their dorm a little over an hour later then Sirius. His hair was dishevelled, and he looked thoroughly snogged. He would've been busted if anyone was awake. The room was dark, and he could just see Peter's bed and his curtains were closed. The moon just hit James's ankle that was hanging out of his bed. He couldn't see Sirius, one part of his bed was closed off, but he could hear his breathing.

He was just unbuttoning his shirt when he stopped. He froze what he was doing when he heard a fourth heartbeat in the room, that wasn't his own. He took of his shoes and focussed his hearing on Peter's bed, but there was only one. There was a familiar scent in the room, he couldn't put his finger on. He moved to James, alone too. Ah, Sirius' must've brought a girl up here. It has been a while since he'd brought someone up. Too bad he broke that streak, he mused.

But he stepped closer, just because of that oh so, familiar scent. He stopped in his tracks when he saw that familiar caramel brown hair sprawled on Sirius' bed. Anger flared in his chest, and he tried to control his breathing. But at least Sirius wasn't with her in his bed, she was wearing his sweatpants though. His eyes followed the hand that was hanging over the edge of the bed. There he saw Sirius, peaceful asleep on the floor, his right hand was tugged in the air, his fingers intertwined with hers. He sunk to the floor, leaning against his half-packed trunk, looking at their hands.

Just a heads up, this story will NOT contain Voldemort or the first war, but will have dark wizards and material (like Izzie and Regulus parents, doing awful stuff)
