A/N I know nothing when it comes to medical terms sorry if I'm wrong about jays trauma or how long it will take to get back on his feet. Just go with it for the sake of the story!!! lol

Erin looks up and is met with piercing green eyes just like their daughters.

"Jay?" Erin sobs

"Hey baby." Jay says hoarsely, Erin gives him the cup of water off of the table by his bed.

"You scared me." Erin admits as she puts the cup back down after jay takes a drink.

"I know babe, I'm sorry. How are the girls?" Jay asks

"They don't know yet, Kim called Jane and told her but said not to tell Nadia and Camille just yet, I wanted to make sure you were gonna be okay first." Erin says, jay nods, saying "probably a good idea." Just then Will pipes up saying "your vitiate look good baby brother how are you feeling?"

"Like I just got shot.." jay says dryly.

Will chuckles then says "yea I imagine you do… so when we're you going to tell me about Erin and the twins?"

Jay sighs rubbing a hand over his face then says "I was planning on telling you soon it's just we haven't talked in a while and everything just happened with Erin and the girls so, yea, I don't really know." Jay explained

"It's okay, Erin explained everything, I'll admit I wasn't the happiest to see her and I was rude but I hope we can put that behind us now." Will explained and asked.

"Of course, just don't touch me again." Erin states.

"You touched her?" Jay asks furiously at his brother.

"He just grabbed my arm babe, no big deal." Erin says trying to calm the love of her life down.

"It better not happen again." Jay growls at Will.

"It won't, I promise." Will says. he's never seen Jay so protective of someone before.

They visit for awhile after that, Jay and Erin tell Will all about his nieces then Will leaves and jay and Erin fall asleep, Erin falls asleep in the chair beside Jays bed.

The next thing either of them know Erin's phone is ringing and it's hank so Erin answers it. "Hello?" Erin says

"Hey kiddo, I'm just about to come to the hospital and thought you might want me to bring the girls by?" Hank asks.

"Yea sure that would be great, I'll text Jane and let her know." Erin says.

"Okay, good, see you guys soon." Hank says then they hang up.

Erin turns to see Jays awake now, he asks in his gravely morning voice, "Who was that?"

"Hank, he's bringing the girls by, is that okay?" Erin asks.

"Yea that's fine, I want to see them. I miss them like crazy." Jay says with a sad smile.

"I'm gonna be in here for a while aren't I?" Jay asks

"Yea you are." Connor is the one to answer as he was coming by to check on Jay.

"How long doc?" Jay asks

"Two weeks, then we should be able to get you home, after you get situated in a chair, like I told Erin you will be in a wheelchair for 2-3 months as the bullets hit some nerves and you're gonna have to relearn to walk again. You'll be back to desk duty by late November and active duty by the new year if all goes well." Connor explains and jay sighs as he rubs a hand over his face, he's frustrated beyond belief…

"Okay I guess there's nothing I can do to change that so I just have to deal with it.." Jay says and both Connor and Erin nod as Erin kisses Jay's knuckles.

"Do you still live in that apartment? Does it have an elevator?" Connor asks and jay shakes his head, then explains "I live in a three story house with Erin and our Twin daughters, i can get someone to put a ramp In

The front door for a short period of time and I guess I'll be sleeping in the guest room on the main floor for a while." Connor looks shocked at the news that jay and Erin live in a big house and has twin girls.

"Wow I didn't know.." Connor starts and Erin pipes up saying "nobody beside Hank knew about our girls until last week, long story."

Connor nods and goes to leave the room.

"I can ask Gabby if Casey will put on a ramp for us." Erin says, then adds "she gave me her number when she brought you to the hospital and told me to call if I needed anything." Erin explained.

Jay just nods as he sees Nadia and Camille as well as Hank walk into the room.

"Hey girls." Jay speaks first, as Nadia and Camille walk shyly into their dads hospital room.

"It's okay girls. You guys can come and see daddy, just be careful he hurts." Erin explained to the two eight year olds.

Nadia and Cammy nod and come closer to jay, Cammy takes Jays hand in hers and Nadia puts her hand on his leg as the girls are beside each other. Cammy is the first to speak though. "What happened daddy? You guys were supposed to come home last night and read to us." Cammy asks and states sadly.

Nadia pipes up saying "we knew something must've happened as you and mommy both didn't come home."

"I'm sorry girls, daddy got hurt at work and I'll be here for two weeks but then I'll be home with my girls for a few months before I can go back to work." Jay explained with tears in his eyes. He hates not being home with his girls.

"Did you get shot?" Nadia asks with a concerned look that is totally her mothers, on her face.

Jay and Erin share a look before jay admits, "Yeah I did girls, but daddy's fine now, but I will be in a wheelchair for a few months until my back heals up." Jay explained trying not to scare the girls but he wants them to know what's gonna happen with their dad.

Cammy has tears in her eyes and jay quickly reaches out to wipe them away, with a grimace as it hurts like hell.

"Cammy, Don't cry sweetheart, daddy's fine!" Jay says.

Cammy looks to her mom then back to her father then says "I'm worried we are gonna lose you now that we are finally a family."

Jays and Erin's hearts break for their little girls. They don't want them to worry about them.

"Listen, you're not gonna lose me or mom, okay?" Jay says sweetly.

Cammy nods then Hank steps in saying "why don't we go get ice cream you can come back and see dad later ok?"

Both girls nod kiss their dad goodbye, and hug their mom.

"Thanks dad, i appreciate you taking the girls." Erin says

"Not a problem kiddo I'll keep them with me until you feel like you can come home without Jay, ok?" Hank says and asks

"Okay thanks dad." Erin says hugging her father.

Hank says goodbye to Erin and jay and lead the twins out of the room.

The rest of the day passes by slow with everyone from the unit stopping by. Gabby gets back to Erin, saying that Matt will build a ramp for them, which makes them happy.

Erin quickly leaves while Antonio is with Jay to show Casey where the ramp needs to be.

Antonio sits beside Jays bed,

"How are you holding up, Halstead?" Tonio asks

"Like shit. My girls are scared of losing me and Erin's afraid and leaving my side. I have to be in a damn wheel chair for 2-3 months, and yes I'm thankful it's not longer but it's just gonna make my family worry more." Jay says with a huff.

"Well the twins just got you in their life and now you're hurt, I can see where that is scary. And the chair, like you said at least it's not longer. Also your family's going to worry no matter what because they love you." Antonio explained making Jay nod and let his words sink in.

"Your right. Anyways, what's new with you? Haven't really seen much of you or the team since Erin and the girls came back." Jay explained and asked.

"Well Sylvies pregnant.. and it's mine.." Antonio says with a big smile.

"Really?" Jay asks and the other man nods, "That's great, I'm really happy for you guys! What do Eva and Diego think of it, though?" Jay asks

Antonio runs a hand through his hair then answers with "they are better than their mother. But I told Laura she had to accept it because I'm not letting her come between Sylvie and I again." Antonio explained.

Jay nods his understanding. They talk for a bit longer than Erin comes back, and they eat then go to bed. Jay still couldn't convince her to go home…
