Chapter 10: Lunch and Hospital Tour

Lunch with the dreamy brain surgeon went well. It never occurred to her that she could enjoy herself with someone other than her close group of friends or her daughter, until now. Now, she couldn't stop giggling which might be the downside, but she couldn't help it. After lunch, he decided to give her a tour of the hospital.

Her friends had worked there for a few years now. It never occurred to her that her friends worked at the same hospital as Derek.

"You spent years in med school to be a well-established surgeon."

"A world-renowned surgeon."

"Oh, how could I forget?" She giggled, walking down a hall with him.

"Just thought I'd remind you." He smiled.

"Oh, I see."

"Now...I'm thinking I should show you the coolest place in the hospital."

"The coolest place? In Daws' terms that would be where you keep all the bloody patients."

"I hope there aren't bloody patients in there."

"Me too..."

"We could find bloody patients. But where we're going is much better."

"I believe you."

"Then let's go." Derek smiled.

"Going."

"Faster..." He laughed, nudging her into the elevator.

"Fine." She laughed, leaning against the wall of the elevator, taking a bite of the frozen yogurt.

"Are you sure you're ready for this?" Derek smiled, as the doors closed.

"We'll see." She giggled, holding up a spoonful of the frozen yogurt.

"Is it good?"

"Try it."

"I'll take your word for it."

"Please..."

"If you really want me to..."

"If you don't, you're really missing out." She giggled, holding the spoon close to his lips.

"Hmm...I'll try." He whispered, taking the spoon into his mouth.

"Good?" She asked, watching as his eyes closed, his tongue licking his lips.

"Mmm..."

"It's good?" She smiled.

"Yeah...It's good." He smiled.

"Okay." She bit her lip, watching him as his blue eyes looked down on her. She wasn't sure what happened next. She pushed him against the wall of the elevator before standing on her tip toes to press her lips into his.

"Mmm..." He murmured, his hands moving up and tangling in her hair.

"I..." She moaned into his mouth, the elevator chiming as it reached the right floor.

"Yeah..." He breathed; she pulled away as the doors opened.

"Sorry." She giggled; her face red as she stepped off the elevator.

"It's...okay." He laughed, touching his lips for a moment.

"Yeah..." She giggled, as he caught up to her.

"So...the best place in the hospital." He smiled, standing in front of a door.

"Okay."

"Except I kind of like that elevator."

"Why is that?" She smiled.

"I think you know." He laughed, unlocking the door, and leading her into his office.

"Yeah." She smiled, tossing the now empty yogurt bowl into the trash. "I do now."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." She giggled, unsure of what was going on. All she knew was she kissed him, wishing that she could do it again which was crazy. Except maybe it wasn't.

"This is now the second-best place in the hospital."

"Oh." She giggled, walking over to his desk.

"Impressed?"

"No."

"Seriously?"

"I just thought it would be bigger." She laughed.

"Oh. Sorry." Derek laughed, rolling his eyes.

"Okay." She bit her lip, leaning against the desk.

"I think that's the end of the tour."

"It's a nice end of the tour." Meredith whispered.

"Hmm...I thought so."

"Thank you...for lunch."

"Yeah...You're welcome."

"It was really good..."

"I told you I liked that place." Derek laughed.

"You ate my chips."

"They're my favorite."

"I would hope so." She smiled, her eyes sparkling.

"But that ice cream was pretty good too."

"Strawberry is the best."

"I don't usually like it."

"That's just weird."

"It's not weird...It's personal preference."

"No, it's not." Meredith laughed, looking down to her lip then back up at him as he walked closer. "You know it's healthy?"

"Strawberry ice cream is healthy?" Derek smirked.

"Yeah it's a fruit...and dairy...very healthy." She smiled.

"I'll have to remember that."

"You really should."

"Mmm..."

"And frozen yogurt...healthier." She giggled, blushing slightly as he stood right in front of her.

"Good thing that's what I got." He smiled.

"You got coffee flavored...gross."

"So good."

"Nope."

"Are you challenging me on that?"

"It depends...what's the challenge?" She replied, looking up at him.

"Coffee ice cream..."

"Hmm..."

"It's so good." He whispered.

"I've never actually tried it..."

"Then, how do you know it isn't good?"

"Because strawberry is a million times better."

"You have to try coffee."

"Coffee is a beverage." She replied, tilting her head further.

"Is it really?" He laughed, pushing a piece of hair behind her ears that have fallen into her face.

"Yeah." Meredith giggled.

"Thank you for informing me of that." Derek smiled, his hand lingering on her cheek.

"You're welcome." She smiled, leaning in.

"Maybe...we could have coffee together...sometime..." He whispered.

"I like coffee."

"I like you..."

"Big mistake..." She replied, pressing her lips into his.

"Mmm..." He murmured, his hands quickly going around her waist.

Meredith couldn't help but smile as her arms moved around his neck, feeling his body a lot closer to hers then before. "Hmm..."

"Hmm..." He chuckled, one hand moving up and tangling in her hair

"Derek..." She moaned, her fingers moving to his hair as she wrapped her legs around his waist.

"Mer…"

"Yeah..."

"Mmm..."

"Ouch...ow..." Meredith stopped, reaching behind her.

"What?" Derek frowned.

"I um...this." Meredith held up a staple remover, before giggling. "Maybe we should stop or move this somewhere...not so risky."

"There is a couch...right behind me." Derek laughed, his hands not moving from around her waist.

"Okay." She smiled her legs still around his waist as she pressed her lips against his again.

"Okay..." He laughed backing up towards the sofa.

"Mmm..."

"Wait..."

"What?" Meredith stopped, lifting her head.

"You do realize...you've kissed me twice." Derek smirked.

"Oh I um...sorry it was an accident and..." Meredith looked away, before biting her lip and looking at up apologetically. "I could go..."

"Definitely don't go." Derek smiled.

"I shouldn't have...I mean I...my heads foggy."

"It's okay." Derek laughed. "If you hadn't kissed me..I would have kissed you."

"Oh..." Meredith breathed, a small smile creeping on her lips.

"But now we're even."

"Yeah..." She breathed.

"Yeah."

"Um..." Meredith breathed.

"I probably should...work..."

"Right...yeah..." Meredith stood, getting up quickly and fixing her hair. "Um...sorry. I shouldn't have done that."

"Yes...You definitely should have." Derek laughed.

"I..."

"I have to work but...I'm going to call you..."

"You don't have to."

"I want to."

"You don't want to do that." Meredith breathed, reaching for her purse.

"Yes I do..." Derek said.

"Okay..."

"So I'm going to call you...And ask you to come have coffee with me." He smiled.

"You are?"

"As soon as I can."

"You realize I have an eleven-year-old, right?" Meredith replied, "I'm not some young...woman that you can just date or have fun with."

"I love that you have an eleven-year-old." Derek smiled.

"Oh Okay." Meredith rolled her eyes, walking to his office door. "I've heard that one before and..."

"I'm going to call you."

"We'll see."

"You'll see."

"I should go."

"I should...be a surgeon."

"Yeah, you should." Meredith smiled, before opening the door and leaving his office. Leaving him there, with his promise to call. Meredith knew he wouldn't. She hoped he would, but she knew how this worked.
