Chapter 12: I Like This
Twenty minutes passed. It felt like forever as Derek sat on the doorstep of Meredith's apartment. She was supposed to be here at nine and the two of them were supposed to go have coffee. Except she wasn't here, and he didn't know if he should wait or if she was blowing him off. Derek was about to grab a piece of paper to leave a note, when he saw her getting out of her car.
"I'm sorry...I forgot Daws needed a poster board for art class. I went to the first drug store, they didn't have yellow; she wanted yellow, so I had to go to another..." Meredith frowned, her hands falling to her side.
"Good morning to you too." Derek laughed.
"Good morning." Meredith breathed, a coy smile shining across her face.
"In the mood for coffee?"
"Yeah...I just...do you care if we run inside quickly?" Meredith asked, taking her keys from her purse. "I need to grab my car charger for the phone. I have no Idea why it's in the house, but it is."
"No problem." Derek smiled.
"Thanks." Meredith replied, putting the key into the lock.
"I was starting to think you stood me up."
"Stood you up for coffee?" She replied, walking into the apartment.
"I don't know...It's happened." He laughed, closing the door behind him.
"Poor you." Meredith giggled, bending over onto the couch. "Here it is..."
"I know. Can you believe that?"
"I found it." Meredith grinned, turning around to face him.
"What was it doing there?" Derek laughed.
"I have an eleven-year-old. I never know how things get anywhere."
"At least you know where your eleven-year-old is."
"I do?" Meredith looked at him.
"Isn't she at school?" Derek laughed.
"I know." Meredith giggled. "I was joking."
"Unless she's charming another brain surgeon."
"Nope just the one."
"Good. I don't like competition."
"I bet you don't."
"I'd win though."
"Oh really?" Meredith rolled her eyes.
"Yup." Derek laughed, sitting on the edge of the sofa.
"You really like yourself." Meredith giggled, crossing her arms as she stood in front of him.
"Just hiding my pain."
"So dramatic..."
"So true."
"Okay." Meredith laughed.
"I have a...proposal for you." Derek said, sitting back on the couch.
"You do?" Meredith replied, stepping closer to him.
"I do."
"Okay..."
"I want to take Dawsyn to the hospital."
"You know, I knew it was time for her to get checked out by a doctor..."
"That's not exactly what I meant." Derek laughed.
"Oh." Meredith rolled her eyes as Derek unfolded her arms.
"Sit down..." He whispered.
"Why?" She pouted.
"Don't do that..." He laughed.
"Do what?"
"Make that face."
"Why?"
"Because..."
"Fine." Meredith giggled, pushing her hair behind her ears.
"So...my proposal." Derek laughed, lightly holding her hand.
"Right..."
"What if I took Dawsyn to the hospital for a day...Showed her around. Let her see the cool stuff."
"You want to take Dawsyn with you?"
"Yeah...This time with permission."
"I see."
"What do you think?"
"I think she'd like it." Meredith smiled, she couldn't stop it. "We'd have to work out the details but...I think it's a great idea."
"It'll earn you good Mom points." Derek laughed.
"I need those." Meredith giggled.
"You could come too..."
"Oh I could?"
"I think I could work that out."
"Okay." Meredith smiled.
"Okay."
"So..."
"So...what?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing, huh?"
"Nothing." Meredith nodded.
"Hmm..." Derek breathed, smiling at her.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"Okay." Meredith smiled, turning away but he pulled her right back to him, her arms moving instantly around his neck.
"Good morning..." He whispered, his thumb lightly stroking her cheek.
"Good Morning."
"How are you..."
"I'm good now."
"Now? You weren't before?"
"I was just...better now." Meredith whispered.
"Me too." Derek smiled.
"Hmm..."
"We...coffee..." He breathed.
"We could go get coffee."
"We could."
"Okay." She breathed, stepping away.
"Or..." He said, pulling her back.
"Or?"
"We could stay here."
"We could."
"It's up to you..."
"Staying here is good."
"I agree."
"Okay."
"Okay..."
"We say okay a lot." She giggled.
"Yeah...We do." He laughed.
"So, we're staying here." Meredith grinned, as Derek ran a hand through her hair.
"Which means...we should probably do something..." Derek smiled.
"We could..."
"Something...fun."
"Fun?"
"Fun...Enjoyable..."
"Oh..." Meredith laughed, as Derek stood. "What would that be?"
"I have something in mind." Derek smiled.
"I bet you do."
"But...you said you weren't doing that."
"I did." She replied, moving to sit down on the couch.
"So I'm out of ideas."
"What?" She frowned.
"What do you think we should do?" Derek asked, sitting on the coffee table in front of her.
"I don't know." Meredith sighed dramatically, kicking her sandles off.
"Did you have breakfast?"
"I did." She replied, lying back on the couch.
"Really?" He laughed. "What did you have?"
"Brownies."
"For breakfast?"
"I was in a hurry." She sighed, as he moved to sit on the floor in front of the couch.
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day...and you had brownies..." He laughed.
"I did."
"Bad...very bad."
"I'm a big girl."
"Hmm..."
"It was delicious." She giggled, as he leaned over her.
"Did you make these brownies?"
"Dawsyn did."
"Your daughter...who's eleven...can bake. But you can't?"
"Was your enjoyable idea to make fun of me?"
"No...That's not what it was."
"Oh, I see...so now we're just...talking."
"That wasn't my idea either..."
"Uh huh..."
"You probably know what my idea was."
"I probably should." She agreed.
"So what do you think about this idea..." He smiled.
"I'm not completely opposed to it."
"Well...what can I do to convince you?"
"I don't think it's something that needs much convincing." She whispered.
"It isn't?"
"We could go get coffee." She whispered, as he stroked her cheek.
"Is that what you want to do?" Derek whispered.
"Maybe." She grinned.
"Your choice..." He smiled.
"No coffee..."
"No coffee."
"None." She giggled, her head against the couch.
"Good choice." He smiled, leaning over and lightly kissing her.
"Mmm..." He murmured, sitting on the sofa as he continued kissing her.
"Come here..." She whispered, as she lay on the couch.
"Where..." He laughed, lacing his fingers with hers
"Me..." She whispered, pulling his lips down to hers.
"I'm here..." He whispered against her lips.
"Okay..." She kissed him, letting her body relax as he lay on top of her.
"Mmm..."
Meredith wasn't sure what she was doing. She was pretty sure teenagers kissed like this, while their parents were in the next room, except she couldn't stop kissing him. "Hi..."
"Hi..." He smiled.
"Hmm..." Meredith breathed, arching her body beneath him as his tongue slipped into her mouth.
"Mmm..." He let out a light moan, as his hand traveled down her side.
"Oh..."
"Meredith..."
"Yeah?" She lightly nipped at his bottom lip.
"Ohh..."
"Hmmm..." Meredith breathed, moving her hips beneath him
"Mmm.." Derek moaned, his hand lightly on her breast.
"Derek..." She moaned, feeling his hand under her shirt.
"Yeah..."
"Mmm..." She breathed, reaching for the hem of his shirt in between kisses.
"You're...very good kisser..."
"You too..." She giggled.
"Mmm..." He murmured, his hand moving over her breast.
"Oh..."
"Mer..."
"Off..." She moaned, pulling at her shirt.
"Okay,..." He whispered, pulling her shirt over her head.
"Are you...oh..."
"Am I..."
"Up..." Meredith arched her upper body.
"Yeah..."
"No..." She put her hand lightly over her lips, a giggle escaping her lips.
"What?" Derek laughed, kissing down her jawline.
"Nothing." She giggled, giving him more access on her neck.
"Okay..." He whispered.
"I..."
"Mmm..."
"Are you comfortable?" She whispered.
"Yeah...I'm...Yeah."
"Okay..."
"Are you?"
"Yeah..." She smiled against his lips.
"Hmm...Good..." He whispered.
"Okay." She breathed, her hands moving to his belt.
"Okay..." He whispered, kissing her again.
"Derek." Meredith smiled, sliding a hand in the front of his jeans, smiling against his cheek. "Oh..."
"Ohh..." Derek moaned, feeling her skin on his.
"What are we doing?" She giggled.
"I...don't know." He breathed, smiling.
"I just..." Meredith purred slightly, feeling his erection against her, "You're...oh..."
"Yeah..."
"And I...I don't know..." Meredith whispered below him, a hint of nervousness starting to show. "I want...I mean..."
"Yeah...But we should...Slower..."
"I haven't had sex in a long time." Meredith blurted out.
"You...Okay." Derek smiled. "Me either..."
"Oh God." Meredith quickly pulled her hands over her face. "I...stupid...really stupid."
"No...It's okay." Derek laughed, taking her hands away.
"No..."
"Meredith...It's okay." Derek whispered, kissing her forehead.
"No...that was...I just..." Meredith sat up as Derek climbed off of her. "I didn't mean...I mean I haven't had sex in...it's embarrassing and I don't want to talk about it because it's not like we were going to do it. We weren't...we were just...you don't want that. I should leave."
"This is your house." He laughed.
"Right..." Meredith stood quickly.
"It's really okay." Derek repeated, sitting up.
"No...I shouldn't have kissed you."
"I like kissing you."
"What?" Meredith stopped, as Derek stood up.
"I like kissing you...I actually really like kissing you." Derek said.
"Well..."
"Do you want me to leave?"
"No...yes...no...I don't know."
"I'll go."
"Okay." Meredith walked up to him.
"Before I go..." Derek whispered.
"What?" She whispered, watching his very move.
"You work tonight, right?"
"Yeah." Meredith bit her lip as he walked up to her, putting his hands on her hip. She wasn't sure how he did this, but for some reason her body eased up when she was with him. "I work until close."
"Can I show you something tonight?"
"That's dirty."
"No it's not." He laughed.
"Oh...I thought...never mind I'll shut up now."
"So...Can I?"
"Yeah...Daws' staying with my friend Izzie..."
"I'll pick you up at work."
"Oh...okay." Meredith whispered.
"What time should I be there?" Derek whispered.
"Nine fifteen?"
"I'll be there."
"Okay." She whispered.
"I guess I should probably go now."
"Okay." She breathed, letting her body lean into him.
"Have a good day." He smiled, gently kissing her forehead.
"Okay." She smiled back, tilting her head up.
"See you later."
"Alright."
"Bye..." He smiled softly.
"Bye." Meredith breathed, lightly kissing his cheek. She wasn't sure what she was doing. Except that kissing him, made everything else go away. It made her forget for just a moment that she needed to pick up some extra hours in order to make up for things or that Dawsyn needed new winter shoes. She was scared, but right now she didn't want to let go. Even if it was just kissing, even if this was short lived. She liked this.
