Episode 22: A High Seas Adventure! Part 2

Time has passed, and Cuphead, Mugman, along with the statue of Brineybeard and his parrot are on the shore of the creepy cove. Mugman lifts his head and spits out the sand in his mouth. He opens his eyes and sand falls out. Mugman opens his eyes wide in shock, and shakes Cuphead to wake him up. Cuphead opens his eyes and looks around to see they're trapped on the cove. They both reach Brineybeard and turn him over to see he's been turned to stone, all that remains is the present. They both scream in fright to see what has become of the captain

Cuphead panics, "Okay, high seas adventure over, let's get outta here!"

"Agreed!" Mugman panics.

They both then dash off, but soon, Mufman stops and looks back at Brineybard. Then grabs Cuphead by the handle, pulls him back, and places his brother down.

"Hey!" Cuphead cries out.

"We can't just leave, Cuphead," Mugman says, and struggles as he picks up the statue.

Once the statue is standing, Cuphead, "We promised Briney we'd help him."

"So your plan is what? Convince a dreaded sea beast that a big rock loves her? You're crazy!" Cuphead says.

Mugman walks away and comes back with some rope as he says, "Maybe, but I made a promise, and I'm gonna deliver these sweets."

But Cuphead angrily says, "You go in there, and you'll never see Elder Kettle or the cottage ever again."

"We're never gonna see Kettle or the cottage again anyway," Mufman says, and ties the rope around Brineybeard.

"Well, you're on your own, buddy," Cuphead says.

"What else is new?" Mugman says, and places the rope around the statue, "And in case you forgot, that sea beast is holding Red Rose prisoner. So maybe if we give her the sweets she might give Red Rose back."

Mugman then begins to pull the rope with all his might, but the statue is too heavy for him to move. Cuphead watches as his brother's method is futile.

Cuphead sighs and walks to Mugman, "Fine, I'll help, but only to get Red Rose back.

"Okay! You get the head, and I'll get the legs," Mugman happily says.

With that, they both begin to carry the Brineybeard statue towards the cave.

Mugman says in concern, "I hope Red Rose is okay."

"Red Rose is a strong girl. She won't let that sea monster take her down so easily," Cuphead says.

He then nervously gulps, "I hope."

Meanwhile, somewhere in the cove, there are different mirrors placed on a shelf on the wall, multiple skulls on the ground in a pile, along with a few parts from a shipwreck. With that, Cala Maria rises to the surface, still in a monstrous form. Red Rose, who has been holding her breath underwater, resurfaces and heavily breaths and gasps for air. Then Cala Maria places her down on one of the stone ledges. Red Rose looks up to see Cala Maria firmly staring down at her.

Cala Maria calmly says, "Now then…"

Red Rose quickly stands up and slowly steps back in fear. Then she falls back on her bottom after she trips on a rock.

Suddenly, Cala Maria says with a gentle and yet kind voice, "Do not worry, I'm not going to hurt you. You're safe now."

"So then, you're… you're not vicious, dreaded, and mean, like you were acting?" Red Rose asks.

Cala Maria chuckles and says, "Oh don't get me wrong, I'm still the number 1 dreaded sea beast in the world. I've sunk many ships and turned many pirates into stone, and also eaten them, but I also have a soft side."

"That seems nice," Red Rose says, sheepishly.

Then Cala Maria asks, "So what's your name?"

"It's Red Rose," Red Rose says.

"What a nice name," Cala Maria says.

She then looks down towards her and says, "You know, you remind me of a young captain. A young captain I met a long time ago."

"A young captain?" Red Rose says, confused.

"Indeed. He kind of looks like you, but the young captain is a young boy. Probably older than you," Cala Maria says.

"Really?" Red Rose asks.

Cala Maria nods her head, "That's correct. I met the young captain a long time ago…"

Flashback:

Years ago, Cala Maria was at a younger age and is swimming across the ocean as she causes shipwrecks and turns any pirate she sees into stone. She also uses her tail to make gigantic waves and make rough seas.

One day, Cala Maria is swimming around the outside of her cove, when some of the rocks above it fall off, and ends up laning on Cala Maria's tail. Cala Maria tries to swim away, but she can't break free.

Around the same time, the young captain, Storm Wilds is sailing around the cove. He has heard stories about Cala Maria and her frightening powers, but he knows this is the quickest way to get to the destination. Just then, Captain Storm Wilds notices something ahead. He takes out his telescope to see Cala Maria with her tail stuck under the rocks and can't get her tail out.

"That must be the sea beast everyone has talked about, but it seems that she's in trouble. I better go see if I can help," Captain Storm says.

Captain Storm then turns the wheel and slowly sails across the graveyard of ships until he reaches towards the rocks near the sea beast. Once he sets anchor, Captain Storm lowers himself down on his rowboat and begins rowing it towards the sea beast. Captain Storm tip toes slowly as he looks to see the gorgon mermaid is still struggling to break free from the rocks.

Captain Storm calls out, "Ahoy!"

Cala Maria stops struggling to see the young Captain Storm Wilds. She then leans to Storm with a calm but quiet look on her face.

"Ahoy Ms. Sea Beast, I can see you're in some kind of trouble. I'm…" Captain Storm says.

But Cala Maria says, "Dinner. You are dinner."

"You're planning on eating me?" Captain Storm questions.

Cala Maria has her arms crossed with a frown.

"Look. I don't think you should be doing that, especially when I'm trying to help you because your tail is stuck under the rocks," Captain Storm says.

"You want to help me?" Cala Maria asks, confused.

"Yes. Just let me help you, you might be hurt from the rocks falling on your tail," Storm says.

"Well, I can't seem to push the rocks off my tail, or pull my tail out," Cala Maria points out.

"Maybe if we both work together, we can get your tail unstuck," Storm says.

Cala Maria sighs, "I suppose it will be better than nothing."

Storm then takes out his sword and slips it under the boulder. Cala Maria places her hand on the boulder and begins to push it forward as Storm pushes his sword down to lift the boulders. They both push as hard as they can until they're able to push the boulder off her tail. That also knocks some of the smaller boulders off her tail as well. Cala Maria is able to remove her tail and places her tail in the water to cool the swelling.

"Are you okay?" Storm asks.

"I'm okay. My tail feels very sore," Cala Maria says.

She lifts her tail out of the water, and sees the bad bruise on the end of her tail fins.

"Here, let me fix that," Storm says, and takes off his jacket.

Then places his jacket over her wound.

Flashback Ends:

I was rather taken by the young captain. According to him, his name was Storm Wilds. I was so grateful for his help, I decided to spare him, and not make him my meal," Cala Maria explains.

Then looks at Red Rose, "And when I saw you, you kind of remind me of him."

"I guess I wouldn't be too surprised, because well," Red Rose sheepishly smiles, "Captain Storm Wilds is my dad."

"Really?" Cala Maria asks, surprised, "I had no idea Storm had a child. Then again, it's been a very long time since I saw him."

"I'm surprised that's right. I didn't know that you knew my dad, nor that my dad told me about it," Red Rose says.

"Well, it wouldn't be much of a surprise. It's not easy to say that you became friends with a Dreaded Sea Beast," Cala Maria says.

"Good point," Red Rose says.

Then Red Rose wonders, "I hope the boys are okay?"

"Oh, so those little cups are friends of yours?" Cala Maria asks.

"Um yeah. And Captain Brineybeard. He's kind of an old friend of my dad," Red Rose says.

"You mean the pirate that talks too much?" Cala Maria questions.

"Um yeah. I hope they're alright," Red Rose says.

"If they're lucky, they might end up on the shore of my cove," Cala Maria.

Then asks, "So Red Rose, how about we have a little chat? And I'll tell you a bit about myself."

Red Rose nods their head in reply.

Meanwhile, Cuphead and Mugman continue to carry the statue deep in the cave, where remains of broken shipwrecks and skulls of sailors remain. It's a struggle to carry the statue, but the sooner they get the sweets delivered, the sooner they can get Red Rose back, and the sooner they can leave.

Just thn, Mugman notices something on the ground, "Ooh, look, a starfish."

And then trips on the skull, causing him to stumble, "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" and drops the statue.

Mugman looks down to see Brineybeard's legs have been broken off.

Stunned, Cuphead softly says, "You broke his legs."

"Uh... There's always glue," Mugman says, nervously.

But then, the waves came in and swept the stone legs away. Mugman works fast so he pulls out two legs from a table with treasure on it, and places them on Brineybeard, giving him two peg legs.

Mugman then places him up and says with a big grin, "Ah. Good as new. Mm."

However, it's short lived when Mugman begins sobbing as he covers his face in shame.

Cuphead gently pats Mugman's shoulder and says, "Well, he's solid stone now. It's not like he was using 'em. In fact, this might be a good time to call it a day." and begins to leave.

But Mugman pulls Cuphead back and sternly says, "No way. We can't just leave, Cuphead. We have a responsibility."

"Great. If we end up eaten or turned to stone, we'll all know whose fault it is," Cuphead says, annoyed.

Then Mugman says, "Look, you're the one who wanted a 'high seas adventure.'"

"This is no time for the blame game," Cuphead says, crossing his arms.

Then Mugman shouts, "You started the blame game!"

Cuphead shouts back, "It takes two to blame game!"

"Yeah, and you started it," Mugman angrily says.

"Who cares who-" Cuphead shouts.

Suddenly, they both stop fighting to see that a figure is overshadowing them.

Cuphead worriedly asks, "Is it... her?"

Mugman gently turns his head to see a giant red crab like monster with yellow and orange eyes, and big sharp claws.

Mugman turns to Cuphead and calmly says, "It's just a giant crab monster."

"Oh, is that all?" Cuphead asks.

Suddenly, they cry out in fear, "Giant crab monster!"

They both scream as the crab monster roars in anger. The boys continue screaming and run behind the statue. The monster continues to let out a roar as it approaches them. The crab monster reaches down as the boys shake in fear. Instead of grabbing them, it gently takes the presents of sweets to Cala Maria from Brineybeard.

Mugman shouts, "Hey! Those aren't for you!"

The monster hiss pinches his claws.

Then Mugman demands, "Give me back those sweets!" As he leaves the hiding place.

He then takes out a sword and says, "En garde!"

The monster roars as it brings out a sword too.

And soon, Mugmana and the Crab monster begin sword fighting. Cuphead watches in shock to see Mugman taking on the monster. Mugman gains the upper hand and causes the Crab monster's sword to fall out of its claw and into the water. The crab monster gasps in shock, and Mugman uses the sword to gesture it to return the sweets. The crab monster does what Mugman instructs. Then Muman gestured to leave. Then the crab monster crawls into a cave. Mugman then swings the sword as Cuphead walks over in astonishment. Then Mugman places the sword next to him, and causes his pants to fall, due to the sword's weight. Mugman struggles to put his pants back on as he falls over.

Cuphead gently shushes Mugman. "Shh."

And the two look to see a strange green light coming from the cavern entrance Cuphead gestures his eyes towards Brineybeard. They both pick up the statue and carry him deeper into the cave. They soon walk inside to see Cala Maria is brushing her tentacle-like hair with a kind of sawfish. They also notice Red Rose is sitting at the ledge, and appears to be unharmed. As they walk towards the ledge, Cala Maria begins to sing.

Cala Maria:

My father was a sailor

My mother was a fish

Since I was little girl I've only had one wish

As she walks away, Cuphead and Mugman put the Brineybeard statue down and hide behind the rocks, supporting it.

Cala Maria:

A tiny dream belonged to me

Cala Maria then looks at her reflection in the many mirrors.

Cala Maria:

To be known across the seven seas

Then fantasizes about the ocean blue, and a ship is sailing by,

Cala Maria:

I started small

Then her tail slams at the ship breaking at half.

Cala Maria:

But my ambition grew

Then, multiple ships arrive as her monstrous form appears on the surface, which reveals to be a painting.

Cala Maria:

And now I'm known Across the ocean blue

All my life what I wanted to be

The fiercest monster In the deep blue sea

Then she changes form, startling Red Rose with the roar, Cuphead and Mugman cower behind the rocks.

Cala Maria:

It's a lonely life

She then changes form and shows a sad look on her face.

Cala Maria:

But the only life

Then lies down in front of a small lagoon.

Cala Maria:

I would ever want for me

She circles her finger in the water, before sliding her hand over her reflection.

Cala Maria:

But I've come so far

Bringing up the courage, Mugman decides to approach the ledge to talk to Cala Maria. Cuphead tries to reach out to him but Mugman continues forward.

Cala Maria:

And now I'm a star

She then knocks down the pile of skulls.

Cala Maria:

And everyone knows me

Red Rose watches Cala Maria sing as she spins around on the water. She turns her head in shock to see Mugman is at the ledge as he watches Cala Maria sing.

Cala Maria:

Yes, I am number one sea beast

Then changes forms as her eyes glow red and her tentacles turn into snakes.

Cala Maria:

I am the Cala Maria

Cala Maria slides her hand to brush her tentacle and spreads her arms at the last verse. Red Rose is astonished by Cala Maria's voice and applauded towards her, much to Cala Maria's satisfaction. However, her attention soon turns to a different applause, and turns her eyes to Mugman who is clapping his hands.

He then complements her, "Wow, you have a beautiful voice."

Cala Maria then lowers her head towards Mugman.

Mugman giggles and introduces himself, "Hi, Miss Cala Maria, ma'am. My name is-"

But Cala Maria interrupts him, "Dinner. Your name is dinner."

This makes Red Rose very worried.

"Actually, my name is…" Mugmans ays, but soon realizes what she means, "Oh. You're going to eat us."

And notice her arms are crossed with a frown on her face.

Red Rose calls out, "Wait, Cala Maria."

Cala Maria and Mugman turn to Read Rose who is walking out to her.

"You really don't want to eat them. These are my friends. The ones I was telling you about," Red Rose says.

"Oh, of course. Sorry, a force of habit," Cala Mara says.

She swims to Red Rose, picks her up, and places her on the cliff to where Mugman is.

"You're… you're okay…?" Mugman asks, shocked.

"Um yeah. Turns out, she's also an old friend of my dad, and he actually saved her once," Red Rose says.

Cuphead walks over and says, "You're kidding…"

"Nope. It's true," Red Rose says.

"Yes. I did promise her not to eat you, consider that you're her friend," Cala Maria says.

"Well that's a relief," Cuphead says.

"In that case, I'm gonna tell you why we came here." Mugman says and walks away.

Cala Maria groans as she rolls her eyes.

Then Mugman presents Captain Brineybeard to her, "This stone loves you."

"Yeah. It's love on the rocks," Cuphead says as he laughs and taps on the stone, "Get it?"

Mugman sternly says, "Not helping."

"Not funny either," Red Rose says.

Then Cala Maria says, "Kid, I don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about."

" Look, he even brought this for you," Mugman says, and presents Brineybeard's gift to her.

Cala Maria is very surprised, "A gift? Wow. No one has ever given me a gift before." Then asks, "What is it?"

"See for yourself!" Muman says, and opens the box.

However, the box of sweets is actually full of cutted up fish and sea creatures' organs.

Mugman smells the foul smell of the seafood and is grossed out, "Ugh! I'm so sorry." he lets out a nervous chuckle and says, "I thought they were sweets."

However, Cala Maria says in excitement, "They are!" and notices, "Oh! He even brought my favorite." and takes out one of the organs from the box, "Squid livers."

Cala Maria then puts it in her mouth and begins eating it, Mm. Mmm!"

Red Rose and the boys groan in disgust,

"Mm, mm, mm!" Cala Maria licks her fingers.

And says "Mm, what a sweet gesture. Too bad I turned him into stone."

Then she gives Brineybeard a kiss.

"Yeah. It's too bad," Red Rose says.

Suddenly, a glowing pink heart appears on Brineybeard's chest. Then a beam flies through and the stone begins cracking, surprising everyone. Soon, the stone shatters and Brineybeard reverts back to his original self.

However, because he has peg legs now, he wobbles, "Whoa! Oh!" and falls to the ground.

Cala Maria gasps in surprise to see her spell has been broken.

Brineyebeard lifts himself up and demands as he looks at his legs, "Hey, these ain't me legs!"

Mugman begins whimpering. Then begins wailing as he cries out, "I'm sorry! I dropped you and shattered your legs. I'm a terrible person!"

" Are ya kidding?" Brineybeard says.

But he instantly gets up and is actually happy, "Most pirates have one peg leg, and I gots two!" He laughs as he dances. "Argh."

"Phew!" Mugman says in relief.

"No one has ever un-stoned themselves before," Cala Maria says in shock.

"It's 'cause I love you, baby," Brineybeard says.

But Cala Maria uses her magic to turn him to stone.

With a frown on her face, Cala Maria says, "Don't call me baby."

And with the power of his love, Brineybeard un-stones himself, "Understood."

Cala Maria quints her eyes and says, "I'm sorry, what was your name again?"

"Why, it's me, Brineybeard," Brineybeard says.

"Brineybeard! Brineybeard!" The parrot repeats with a squawk.

"Hmm," Cala Maria thinks a bit, and says, "Sorry, doesn't ring a bell."

"Brineybeard!" Brineybeard repeats and explains, "We went on a date, I took ye to that Italian joint, we had the seafood pasta, and for dessert, we had…"

Soon Cala Maria remembers, "Tiramisu…"

"Yes!" Brineybeard happily says, "So I came all this way to ask ye. Would ye be me girlfriend?"

Look, Briney, you're a nice guy," Cala Maria says. But for me, my career comes first."

"But-" Brinyebeard says.

But Cala Maria says, "Romance isn't in the cards right now."

"But-" Brineybeard speaks up again.

"It could never work between us," Cala Maria says.

"But-" Brineybeard continues.

Mugman, Cuphead, and Red Rose do feel bad for Brinyebeard, and can tell Cala Maria isn't interested in dating. Suddenly, one of the eggs crack open, and a small octopus jumps on Cuphead's face, making him scream. Red Rose then grabs the octopus and is able to pull it off of Cuphead with ease.

Cala Maria confesses, "In fact, I planned to eat you on our first date. But I filled up on tiramisu."

Then Brinyebeard asks, "Would ye at least think about being me girlfriend? Maybe down the road?"

"Oh, sweet, sweet Briney. You are a charmer," Cala Maria says.

But then Cala Maria says, "However, it might not work out. And considering since you and I had the same friend, and you and your crew are friends of Storm's child. I've decided not to eat you.

"So you're going to let us leave? Just like that?" Cuphead asks.

"Of course. I'm a woman of my word," Cala Maria says.

And Cala Maria does live by it. The group are walking down though the cave and out of the cove to the beach.

"You think Cala Maria could have provided us with a boat?" Cuphead asks.

"Well it's not like she actually needs one," Red Rose says.

Red Rose turns to Brinyebeard, and says, "But hey, I know things didn't go out as planned, but maybe someday, you two might have a relationship."

"Do not worry, I plan on waiting until Cala Maria becomes my girl, forever!" Brinyebeard says, and feeling confident.

Then look around the ocean of the cove, "Now, let's find me ship."

Then Mugman notices, "Look."

The group looks ahead to see Brinyebeard' ship.

"There's the ship!" Mugman says.

"Come on, let's go get to the ship and head out through the high seas, and maybe get back to the Inkwell Isles," Red Rose says.

"Let's go," Cuphead says.

The group goes in the water and swims across the ocean as the parrot flies over them to follow.

Meanwhile, Cala Maria rises from the sea, with her box of sweets to see the group of friends off, and decides to have some of her sweets.

She then takes a bite of her sweet and says, "Mmm! So tasty. Mm, mm, mm!"

Back to Brinyebeard and the three kids, the group reaches the ship and climbs on to the deck. However, there is one problem.

"We're stuck on the rocks!" Mugman says, shocked.

"What're we gonna do? Cuphead asks.

"I'm sure we'll think of something," Red Rose says.

"Well, at least that sea beast is not going to eat us," Cuphead says.

Brinyebeard walks to the stern of the ship to see the ship is stuck.

He then looks at Cala Maria in the distance, "Aw! Exquisite."

"Mm," Cala Maria says, enjoying her sweets.

She turns her head and gasps. I am surprised to see Brinyebeard has love within his eyes. Then Brinyebeard blows her a kiss. Cala Maria smiles in reply. So maybe Cala Maria kind of likes Brinyebeard after all. And with that, Cala Maria blows him a kiss. However, her kiss is as strong as a powerful wind, enough to push the ship out of the rocks, and sail towards safe waters.

Brinyebeard says to Mugman, "Mugman, thank ye. Ye came through on a promise to a pirate. Know what that makes ye?"

"What?" Mugman asks.

"A real pirate!" Brineybeard answers.

"Ya hear that, guys? I'm a real pirate!" Mugman shouts in excitement.

"Whoa! Whoa-" Cuphead screams as he tries to hang on.

He ends up losing his grip, but Red Rose is able to catch him.

"Gotca Cuphead!" Red Rose says.

Cuphead blushes a bit and says, "Uh, thanks."

"Maybe there is some room for romance on the high seas adventure," Cuphead says in his thoughts, feeling a bit embarrassed as Red Rose holds on to him.

"Well, looks like he finally got his high seas adventure!" Brinyebeard says.

Soon, all four begin laughing with smiles on their faces, even the parrot is laughing. In the end, the three friends end up with a high seas adventure. And one that they'll never forget.
