Chapter 4 The Truth About the Song
Tsukasa's POV
While my troupe members were inside the tent talking with everybody else, I was outside, mulling over what to do in this situation.
As I was doing this, Kaito suddenly sat down next to me.
"Hello, Tsukasa", he greeted.
"Oh", I started. "Hello, Kaito."
"Something appears to be troubling you", Kaito pointed out. "And it seems to have something to do with the song you were performing. Am I correct?"
Upon hearing this, I sighed in defeat.
"You are correct", I replied. "It is about the song."
"May I ask about what is troubling you then", Kaito asked.
I thought about it for a moment, before giving my answer.
"If I tell you", I started. "Will you please not tell any of my troupe members?"
"Huh", Kaito started in confusion. "You don't want your troupe members to know?"
"It's not that I don't want them to know", I started. "It's more that them knowing will complicate things."
"Very well then", Kaito started. "Then I won't tell them anything. "You have my word, Tsukasa."
"Thank you, Kaito", I said.
"Now then", Kaito started. "Please explain to me what is going on."
"Well", I started. "As I said, the song was written by somebody else. Specifically, she wrote the lyrics as a message to me."
"A message to you", Kaito asked.
"Yes", I replied. "Some time ago, she confessed her feelings to me. I told her that it wouldn't be appropriate for us to be together. Some time later, she wrote the first verse and the chorus, and 'accidentally' left her notebook containing the lyrics at my house. Once I saw them, I composed the melody as well as wrote my own lyrics, and gave it back to her as a reply to her message."
"I see", Kaito started. "I knew it."
"Knew what", I asked in confusion.
"When I heard you performing that song earlier, I could tell that the feelings contained in the lyrics were your own", Kaito revealed. "So then, that means that, while you told this girl that it wouldn't be appropriate for you two to be together, it doesn't mean that you don't want to be with her?"
Upon hearing these words, I sighed sadly.
"I do", I replied. "I want to be with her."
"Then why not be with her", Kaito asked.
"She's one of my little sister's best friends", I revealed. "Us being together could complicate their relationship."
"I see", Kaito started. "We'll then, do the other members of your troupe know this girl?"
"Yes", I replied. "She's goes to school with Emu, and Nene helped her with her singing."
"I see", Kaito said. "So this is why you don't feel comfortable performing the song in a show."
"Exactly", I replied. "And I'm sure she wouldn't feel comfortable with it as well."
"Well then", Kaito started. "Are you going to ask her about it anyway?"
"I guess that it wouldn't hurt to at least ask her."
