Wylie, Granite, Mr. Forkle and I all appeared in a large field with petals of different colors scattered over the grass and tall pines stretching toward the sky.
All of the councilors were lined up in front of team Valiant, my friends, and my friends parents. "There we are, finally decided to join us moonlark? It's sure been a while." Alina spoke her voice sounded like honey and dripping with something bitter.
"Alina, you can't talk to Sophie like that," Oralie scolded her and for the first time in a long while I was grateful that Oralie was there, "You know it's been hard recently. You have no reason to but in and make it worse."
"You see the ironic thing however, is that while this girls had her attention glued to one friend another's gone missing creating a problem we'll have to fix." Alina shot back.
"You know we struggle to fix problems. That's why these kids have been left to fix them using some questionable tactics." Bronte spoke up.
Most counselors nodded their heads in agreement to Bronte and Oralies words. "Think about where we would be without these kids. They've saved so many lives." Emery added.
"They've destroyed many lives too," Councilor Terik added in. It wasn't something I really expected from Terik though I also didn't know him very well. But looking at my friends I could see they all knew it was true.
"They're just kids we can't expect them to be perfect. It should be up to us as adults to protect our children and the elven world, the intelligent world even." Alden put in to counter Terik and Alinas accusations.
"These kids have been thrown into a world that needs their protection but also rebels against them. That can't be easy" The golden haired councilor spoke up again.
The argument raged on but I tried to block it out as much as possible. Looking around I could see most adults standing around arguing however some seemed to stay quiet. The other kids watched on dumbfounded. A certain liar seemed to be trying to block everyone's emotions. The meeting was pure chaos later out in front of me.
"We're all right here!" I shouted suddenly causing everyone to go quiet and turn their attention to me. Some of my friends mouthed a thank you or gave me a small smile. "Would you please not argue about us when we're with you? Especially if some of what you have to say might not be the greatest things to hear regardless of weather or not it's true." I thought I saw Alina say something like seriously under her breath, "Anyway, it sounds like there are more important topics to discuss"
"Well said Sophie, and yes there are," The spokesman started, "A while ago we were informed that Biana Vacker has gone missing. We would like to help the Vackers in their search for this girl. We have made a plan to split up into several groups and see if we can find Biana herself or a lead on where she may be." After he saw everyone's nod of approval to the plan he continued, "The first group will search Everglen extensively, this group will be Noland, Ramira, Velia, Darek, Dex, Tam, Wylie, Mr. Forkle, Grady, Della, and Juline. The second group will search Foxfire and include: Alina, Clarette, Oralie, Linh, Fitz, Sophie, Granite, Kesler, Stina, and Alden. And the last group will search Atlantis and if you weeent already assigned another group this will be yours."
(Sorry the paragraph was so badly worded, I didn't really know how to put it.)
It seems like fate is really against me now.
The sun had set shortly after we got back from the meeting. I was halfway through having Vertina help me with a braided hairstyle that would be comfortable enough to sleep with when there was a knock downstairs. I could only make out a few mumbled words of a conversation before it ended. Soon enough though there was a knock on my door, "Sophie," a sweet voice called.
"Is it something we need to talk about?" I asked but I got no answer, "Come in."
Oralie stepped into my room and smoothed down her flowy dress. It was the most simple I'd seen her in with a light blue color (no not pink) that flowed down to her ankles. "I know I'm the last person you'd like to see right now but there are a couple of things I want to talk about." This story will be heavy on the Oralie Sophie relationship.
She actually wasn't the last person I wanted to see but I didn't want to tell her that. "Ok," I told her not looking away from Vertina , "What was it?"
"Firstly, while I probably know the answer, do you want me to help with your hair?"
"Your guess was right."
She actually smiled a little at my remark. "How are you feeling about Biana? I know you two were close."
"We are close." I told her skirting around the question.
"Ok that's what I thought. You've got a lot of people who are here for you in that factor, me included." She told me, I just caught myself from smirking, "Also I don't want us to go into this being enemies, no matter how optimistic people see me, I know bad things happen a lot I lost you and I've almost lost you again many times." This confused me but I let her continue talking, "I don't think that this will end well because whatever we find will lead to one something that could get somebody killed."
She paused seeing what I would say, "That's, I didn't know that."
"I talked about as much as you when I was your age. Think about it ok Soph."
I didn't answer her question though I did ask a different one, "Have we been speaking English this entire time?"
Oralie smiled and nodded her head making her way to the door. "There's another meeting tomorrow before we go, just team Valiant this time."
It wasn't until after she left that I realized that I might not want to go into this as enemies either, especially when the hand I was dealt had the people it did.
