Chapter 3: Sacrifice

Damon left shortly after, saying he would tell Elena the truth about Bonnie and I was left to search for Klaus. The dance ended and I couldn't find this person Alaric that they said Klaus was possessing. I gave up, knowing that Klaus was already gone by now for sure and went home. I got a video call from Bonnie, she was apologizing and telling me not to worry that she was fine. "I'll finish this for you Bonnie. Leave it to me." I told her and hung up, they all had no clue to The Originals and I was the only one that was going to take them all down.

Next day was the night of the full moon, where Elena informed us that Elijah told her the truth of the curse and Klaus being his brother, things were things I already knew though, but I was on the lookout for anyone going missing for the spell-breaking. I picked up the ringing phone and Elena worried voice was coming so fast I almost couldn't understand. Apparently Damon took it upon himself to force his blood into Elena so that she wouldn't stay dead…she would turn into a vampire. "Kara, I don't wanna be a vampire." she was upset, I told her I would come see her, but she said Stefan wanted to take her somewhere. "Just stay safe, I don't want Klaus to find out about you and use you as the vampire."

I sighed, I was updated by phone as Bonnie and Elena were worried that I would be kidnapped as the vampire. I felt so useless, but I didn't want them to worry about me so I stayed put. It was nightfall when I couldn't wait around anymore. If Klaus and Elijah were both here, I could end them both before the ritual was completely. I rushed out, following the pull in my stomach as I tried to hurry, I would save everyone if I could. The Originals wouldn't cause anymore pain for people.

I heard the witch chanting and I paused for a moment of shock as I saw Klaus's face buried in Elena's neck. Her eyes met mine as she gasped and he dropped her, I felt so angry at the man called Klaus, he walked away from her, his body beginning to break and change as he transformed. Before I was able to flash down to attack, his body went flying as Bonnie's power hit him. Damon flashed and snapped the witch's neck before picking up Elena. I rushed down to Bonnie's side and she blasted me back as she attacked Klaus at the same time, sending flames and him screaming. I landed and jumped up, seeing her stand against him, so powerful, it made me proud of her becoming her own woman, yet I feared for her life.

Klaus was screaming in pain as Bonnie continued her assault, I went to go after Klaus but Elijah walked up to him, looking down at his brother. Bonnie stopped her spell and I pulled her against me, if this went bad, I would get her out of here. Damon and Elena were gone and Stefan was recovering from the stake in his back as Elijah spoke to Klaus. "In the name of our family, Niklaus…" he said as he drove his hand into Klaus's chest. "I didn't bury them at sea!" Klaus breathed out in pain, causing Elijah to pause. "Their bodies are safe. If you kill me, you'll never find them." Stefan told Elijah not to listen as I stepped forward, was this the truth or more lies?

"I can take you to them. I give you my word…brother." I could see Elijah's face torn between what he wanted to do and what he had promised. Bonnie stepped out of my grip, "Do it and I'll take you both out." "You'll die." Elijah countered and Bonnie told him that she didn't care. I grabbed her arm, "No, Bonnie." in that moment of hesitation, Elijah apologized and they flashed away before we could move. Bonnie jerked her arm away from me. "Kara! I could've ended this!" "I can't let you die!" I told her, tears pooling in my eyes as I held out my hand. "I swear to you Bonnie, they will pay for everything they did." "I want them dead, Kara. No matter what."

She stormed off with Stefan as I stared at where Elijah and Klaus had been…I had never seen Klaus before and only glimpses of Elijah. I felt my head begin to hurt, I rubbed it trying to relieve the pain but it only got worse as I remained where they had been. They weren't what I was expecting and I stood for a while as the sun began to rise. Bonnie was angry with me…I ended up being a failure as I couldn't take Klaus and Elijah out. Part of me felt that they weren't that far, maybe I could still go after them. Maybe I could make this right. But it was impossible to kill Klaus now that he wasn't mid-transformed. I walked off looking at the spot where they were once more before going to the house where Bonnie had been staying. She was at the door when I arrived, her eyes narrow and a frown on her face. She told me about John giving his life for Elena to come back human and I was happy about that, but I knew she wasn't happy with me at all.

I rubbed my temple again as she began to speak, wishing whatever this was would just stop. "Kara, what do you want?" "I want to explain why I feel the need to end Klaus and Elijah myself." "It's pointless. Klaus can't be killed now. Thanks for that. Because of you and Elijah, Klaus is the most powerful creature and unkillable." I went to speak, but my words caught in my throat. The pain was unbearable now, I grabbed it and she came over to me, placing her hands on my head. "It won't stop. Damnit!" I cried out as she began to chant. I could feel her magic seeping into my mind and suddenly I saw a door burst open, memories hidden from myself, all rushing back in an instant.

"Kara? Is the pain gone?" I nodded as I looked up with new eyes it seemed, I was such a fool, how did I not realize that part of my mind had been locked up, my history locked away from myself. "What is it?" Bonnie asked and I paused… I didn't want her to know the whole truth…I wanted her to still care for me like family, I watched her grow and I wanted that to continue. "I'm fine now. I just wanted to let you know that I was leaving. I'm going after them, Bonnie. I swore I would end this. I'm keeping my promises."

"I don't want you to leave, Kara." "It's okay Bon-Bon, stay here, live your life. I've had a long life, I'll handle the rest from here." I didn't give her a chance to say anything as I pulled her into a hug and held her tight. "Please, let me do this. Let me protect you and everyone you love." I whispered, begging her to understand and not hate me anymore. She returned the hug and sighed deeply, "Just be careful. And keep me updated. And don't be reckless. And…don't go." I laughed, she was so sweet and young. I glanced over her shoulder, seeing Elena sitting up and giving a small wave our way. "Bonnie, I will see you again. I love you, you are always going to be my family."

I walked away, knowing that I wouldn't be back for a while…not until the originals were gone from this world. Then it would be safe to return. I would not rest until Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie were safe. That was my goal, end the Originals, protect my family and friends from everything. I went home and packed everything I could, knowing it would be a long trip. Once I was ready, I went back to the place where Klaus broke his curse. I retraced their steps, up until they just seemed to vanish. "Where would you go?" I asked the quiet forest and tried to remember any clues that I may have heard about Klaus traveling with cargo, it would have to be enough for at least their coffins.

I left town, following any whispers or rumors of anyone matching Elijah or Klaus's descriptions. It was difficult being out and about, having to talk to people, having so much human blood around. I booked a hotel and emptied my supply of blood into the fridge, only drinking the amount I needed to be just full enough to not attack anyone. For months I searched every whisper that I heard, any trace of them…yet I was never able to find them, only the aftermath of their killings. They seemed to be making a trail, following their own search it would seem like. Then suddenly the whispers and rumors stopped, they just vanished one day.

I waited and hoped that another rumor would appear, they would have to resurface eventually. It wasn't like them to not leave bodies in their wake, it was just part of who they were, killers…murderers…monsters… I groaned as I collapsed in bed after a long day and night of searching for hints of their whereabouts. I haven't felt this drained in years it seemed. I retired for the next week, just staying in the room and listening for rumors from nearby, I was getting low on blood and would have to stock up. **RINGG RINGG** I shot out of the bed, grabbing the buzzing phone and seeing Bonnie's face on it. I shoved it to my ear, hearing her voice for the first time in months.

"Bonnie, what's wrong?" I said, hearing her speak quickly. So much had happened in a short time it seemed. Stefan had joined with Klaus to protect everyone, that it was them leaving the bodies that I had been following. But they came back and attacked them at the school when they were there, setting up their prank for senior year. Klaus had killed Tyler and had forced Bonnie to come up with a way to make his hybrids live. I threw my stuff into my bag and told her I was on the way back. "Wait Kara, he figured it out and Tyler is alright. We are all alright…for the most part." I sighed and told her to keep talking, that I was still coming back.

She told me about Damon taking Jeremy and going to try to find some man named Mikael and my entire body froze. "W-were they able to? Find him?" "Are you alright?" "Answer me!" I snapped and almost broke the phone in my grip but held it together. "Y-yes, Jeremy said they did. But that's all I really know." "Tell me where he is." "I don't know." "I'll be there in a few days, please find out and have the answer when I get there. I'll see you soon Bonnie." I hung up before she could reply and took off, running as fast as I could. It was hard and my strength was leaving me by the time I forced myself to stop and feed on some bags of blood.

'North Carolina. Pickett Grave. Katherine is there. Be careful.' I read the message as I drank, sending a thank you to Bonnie, and breaking into a car and stealing it to make my way to the location she sent as an attachment. My mind was racing with memories and thoughts as I drove, was this truly happening? Would I get here and find Mikael after all this time? I pressed the petal harder, pushing the car faster down the road. If anyone could help me take down all of the Originals, it was Mikael…their father.
