"Did Sakura always know she was a clone?" I asked, helping our young friend to his feet.
"I think she only knew after that feather returned in Tokyo." Fai said, turning away from us to look at where our princess had been. "It wasn't just because the other Syaoran left, but because that was when she changed. It wasn't that she could not accept Syaoran. She knew that her own existence was also that of a clone. She kept up that attitude towards you because she knew that your true Sakura was elsewhere."
"Sakura." Mokona cried.
"How long have you known?" Kurogane asked. There was a long pause and I realized I knew the answer before he could say it.
"Since the beginning." I answered for him. He looked over his shoulder at me and nodded.
"I heard it from that man. That's why, if there was something I could do for her, I wanted to do it. Sakura was cloned differently than Syaoran. She was copied in both body and heart. That's why those scattered feathers are the same as those from the original Sakura."
"Why'd he do it differently for the kid?" our samurai asked.
"Well, if anything happened to the cloned Sakura, as long as he still had the original he could make a substitute." Fai explained.
I watched as Kurogane clinched his fists and was surprised by how calm his voice was despite the clear anger radiating from every inch of him.
"So the princess' soul is gone?" I felt everyone's heart break at once.
"She can't be…" I whispered, trying not to cry.
"Sakura…" Mokona wailed, leaping onto Syaoran's shoulder. "It doesn't matter if she was a clone! Sakura is Sakura!"
"That's right." Syaoran said, holding our little guide close. "I was always watching our journey together. So, I will get her back. I need to speak to Yuuko."
Mokona complied and called the Dimensional Witch for him.
"I have a wish." He told her with no greeting. "Please tell me where Sakura is."
"I wonder which Sakura." The witch replied. I had the feeling she'd been watching us this entire time.
"Both of them. I will not let Sakura die." Our determined boy.
"Once I've told you, what will the rest of you do?" She asked Kurogane, Fai, and I.
"I will go." We all said without missing a beat.
"Then, the price." We all held our breath, waiting to see what else she thought we could give up. "It has been received."
All of us were in pure shock.
"From who?" Mokona was able to ask.
"From the person closer to Syaoran than any other. The princess who journeyed with you in the past paid me the same price." Yuuko told us.
"The same as what the princess paid…" Kurogane tried to figure it out.
"Memories?" Fai of course was a step ahead.
"And so that person has forgotten his past and the names of his parents as payment. For the same wish as yours." The witch explained.
"Watanuki…" I realized. When I was in Yuuko's Tokyo, I knew the two boys were connected somehow but couldn't figure out how or why. It felt like everything was leading to this.
"Fei Wong has been gathering people's souls for the sake of his dream. Therefore, I can trace his whereabouts by following those souls." Yuuko told us.
"Did you find it?" Kurogane asked her.
"Only a short while ago."
"Really." The ninja said.
"Using her magic to find his location means she must also reveal her own location to him." Fai explained.
"Indeed." She sighed. "This store was created for the day that must come. And I am also here because of that day. Fei Wong is in Clow."
"Syaoran's world?" I realized.
"Yes. Within the span of detached time."
