EJ had just turned 18. He was now a legal adult truthfully he never felt like one not even now, it was spring.

EJ had just told his dad he was going to take a gap year, he had no idea what he was going to do with his life honesty but he wanted to do something in theater, filmmaking or directing at the moment were the things he liked the best. I should really tell dad I want to go into theater… EJ shook the thought away his dad was already mad enough that he wasn't going to Duke and on top of it "wasting your time on a gap year" Cash's words not EJ's. EJ took a breath willing himself not to lose control One thing at a time Caswell. "Happy birthday Eej!" he got hugged from behind "thanks Ash."

"Silces after school, your still coming right? Everyone's gonna be there." Ashlyn smiled EJ grinned "of course. I woulden't miss it."

"Is everything ok?"

"Yeah.. everything's fine."

Ashlyn put a hand on his shoulder "if you need to talk.. About anything..'

"I know, maybe later not now,, good vibes only today." EJ said trying to smile. Ashlyn knew about everything that had happened with his dad.

"Happy birthday" Ashlyn hugged him once more and then went to class.

EJ went to Slices and everyone was there, he had a really good time with all his friends, his true family really.

Gina took his hand and was walking with him to his house. "Good birthday?"

"One of the best I've ever had."

"Are you doing anything with your family?"

EJ shook his head. "No there's a big lawyer client dinner tonight my dad couldn't miss.. So i'm on my own tonight."

"I'm so sorry Eej. That sucks."

"It's probbly for the best. My dad's not too thrilled with me right now."

Gina nodded, EJ had told her all about it. EJ looked at the backyard "are there lights on?"

"Are there? I didn't notice." Gina smiled

"What did you do?"

"C'mon." Gina took his hand and pulled him into the backyard. All the trees were strung with fairy lights everywhere and Gina had laid out a blanket in the middle of the backyard. "Surprise!"

EJ looked at his backyard in disbelief "you did all this? So that's why you were busy all day."

Gina smiled "come sit."

EJ sat down next to her. "I got you something." Gina handed him a present and he opened it, it was a picture frame the kind that folds out and has two sides so it's kind of like a book with a picture on each side. On one side was a group picture of EJ and all of his friends, on the other side was a picture of Gina and EJ. "it's so you don't forget about us." Gina explained EJ smiled "I could never. Did you make this?"

"Yeah I did."

"How? Wait let me guess-

"Youtube" they said at the same time and laughed, Gina snorted. EJ smiled "I love it when you snort when you laugh it's so cute."

Gina smiled. "Ok and here's one other thing."

"You are spoiling me today" EJ smiled "what? I can't spoil my amazing talented cute boyfriend on his birthday? Open it." Gina smiled

EJ opened it it was a camera, A really nice video camera. "G you shouldn't have, it's too much."

Gina smiled "your 18 this only happens once. You can record anything on that, your own memories, your own stoires anything. I guess I just wanted you to remember the good stuff, get the good parts out of life not the bad ones."

"I love it." EJ smiled tears came to his eyes Gina was so good, she was the best thing in his life, and he had wonderful friends.

"You're in charge of your own life not your dad."

EJ opened up the video camera it turned on. Gina smiled "I had a feeling you wanted to try it out."

He held the camera up so he could see himself and Gina at the same time. "I'm EJ Caswell it's my birthday i just turned 18 and my amazing girlfriend got me this video camera. Say something to the camera."

Gina laughed "you are such a dork."

"You know you love it." EJ smiled

Gina kissed him on the lips EJ kissed her back. "I love you"

"I love you"

He turned the video camera off. "I'm sorry you didn't get to spend your birthday with your dad."

"Instead I got to spend it with the person I love the most."

EJ looked at her they both blushed. "I'm taking a gap year we can go on adventures all the time."

Gina smiled "I can't wait.' She kissed him on the cheek and looked into his sparkling blue eyes "happy birthday Eej."

I just thought that was a cute Idea:) also I really hate EJ's dad he's the worst.
