EJ was watching his newborn daughter sleep, she was sleeping peacefully and she had been for about 3 hours. EJ smiled "I love you so much" he whispered. Truthfully EJ hadn't gotten any sleep because he wanted to make sure Gina and the baby were doing ok, the doctors assured him everything was fine and part of him believed it but he also just wanted to be super sure that they were both ok.

EJ turned to Gina. She was out cold the C-section had really taken a lot out of her. EJ kissed her on the forehead, Gina's eyes slowly fluttered open. "EJ" she smiled sleepy at him. "Where you watching us sleep?'

"I was just making sure you guys are doing ok."

Gina smiled "that's sorta sweet. Babe you need to get some sleep you look exhausted. Plus you know Skylar's probably going to be up all night."

"So you feel ok?" EJ asked

"Oh yeah, they have me on a lot of pain killers."

"That's good."

"Eej get some sleep."

EJ laughed softy and kissed her on the forehead. "I will, I promise."

Gina smiled "good." she was asleep within seconds.

EJ sat back in the bed and feel asleep to the sound of Gina's breathing.

2 DAYS LATER…

"I cannot wait to get out of here." Gina sighed EJ was standing in the doorway and came into the room. "Well that's a good thing because guess who's going home today?"

Gina smiled "we are?!"

"Yeah I just talked to the doctor he said everything looks good."

"That's great." Gina turned to look at EJ "hey are you sure you're ok with my mom coming to stay with us for two weeks?"

Since Gina had a C-section the doctors said she would have to take it easy for a few weeks she really coulden't lift anything and the doctors really didn't want her to move around too much because there was a chance if she strained herself too hard the stitches could burst and then that would be a whole other problem.

"Of course in ok with it, you know I love you're mom. Plus it woulden't hurt to have extra help for a while. Are you sure you're ok with it?"

"I'm ok with it. I love my mom to death, as long as she doesn't bring up Jamie we should be fine."

EJ sighed "you know she always brings up Jamie…"

"I know, she really wants us to have a 'relationship' or whatever. She just doesn't see how complicated it is."

"He was never around for you when you needed him to be it's not that complicated to understand."

Gina sighed "my mom never understands.. But besides that we should be fine."

A little later Gina and EJ were in the car headed home. "You guys doing ok back there?" EJ asked "yep. She's sleeping." Gina smiled

Soon they were home EJ helped Gina get into bed. "It feels so good to be home." Gina said "I feel the same way."

"You looke exhausted" EJ said Gina smiled "so do you."

"You should get some rest." EJ said

"Are you sure?"

"I can handle it. Get some sleep." EJ kissed her on the forehead and picked up Skylar's car seat. "I'm gonna get her settled."

"Ok"

"I love you."

"I love you too."

About an hour passed when Gina woke up, you know when you wake up and forget where you are? Well that happened to Gina, she had been though a lot in the past few days, they both had. Exhausted and her mind was fuzzy because the pain meds were stastring to wear off. She put a hand on her flat stomach and instantly regretted it. It hurt so much. She could feel the stitches along her stomach. "EJ?" she called out "EJ!" EJ came into the room. "Hey, G. what's wrong? Is it your stomach?" he sat down next to her on the bed. Gina suddenly remembered everything, her C-section. "I think I forgot where I was for a second." EJ wrapped his arms around her. "It's ok, you've been though a lot."

"I feel like i'm going crazy." Gina said tears filling her eyes. "No baby you're not. We just have to take this one day at a time."

Gina nodded "where's Skylar?"

"She's sleeping in the nursery. Want me to bring her to you?" "yeah that would be great. It's almost time for her to nurse anyway."

EJ went out and came back a second later with Skylar in his arms, he handed her to Gina. Gina smiled "hi baby. You're so perfect, i'm so glad your healthy."

Gina checked her phone "my mom's coming in a few minutes."

"Take a Deep grounding breath."

Gina took a breath and slowly let it out. "I'm not going to get in a fight with her today, it's gonna be fine."

EJ smiled "that's the spirit." Skylar started to cry, "Hi sweetheart, it's ok your just hungry." Gina pulled a section of her shirt down and held the baby close to her chest. The crying stopped. "How are you so good at this?" EJ wondered

"Breastfeeding? I don't really do anything, it just kind of happens."

"No I mean being a mom."

Gina blushed "I barely know what i'm doing."

"Don't sell yourself short you're doing great."

"Well you're a pretty great dad too."

EJ sat down next to her on the bed and kissed his wife on the forehead. Gina smiled at him and then turned her attention back to Skylar. Having her husband beside her and holding Skyalr in her arms Gina finally srtated to relax. She was fine, the baby was fine, she and EJ were exhausted but everything was ok now. After a few minutes Skylar was finished. "Babe do you know where the burp cloths are?"

"There in the dresser in the nursery i'll be right back." EJ retured a few seconds later with a burp cloth and handed it to Gina. Gina smiled gratefully at her husband and shifted the baby to her shoulder to burp her. A few seconds later she burped and spit up a little. "Good girl" Gina smiled holding the baby in her arms. There was a knock at the door. "I got it." EJ said getting up. "Just be nice ok?"

"It's not me i'm worried about" Gina replied

"I know she can be difficult at times baby.. But she's a guest and maybe it woulden't hurt to talk about how you feel with her?"

"Just like how it worked out with you amd your dad?'' Gina regretted the words as soon as she said them, she saw the hurt flash in his eyes. Even though EJ's dad was awful she knew it still hurt him to not have a relationship with his dad.

"Babe i'm sorry.. I didn't mean that. I'm exhausted I got my stomach cut open two days ago and my emotions are all over the place.." Gina got tears in her eyes she felt so bad about what she had said.

"Hey, hey, it's ok." EJ soothed brushing a tear off her cheek. "I'm not mad it's fine. It's been a rough couple days huh?"

Gina nodded. "We've been though a lot G this is normal."

"You should probably let my mom in." Gina replied she kissed him on the cheek. EJ smiled and went to open the door.

"Hi Terri."

"Hi EJ" Terri stepped inside, they hugged. "How are you two doing? You've been though a lot in the past couple days."

"Doing ok. The C-section was the wrost part.. But we're just both happy to finally be home. Thank you by the way for coming to help out, Gina has to recover and having you here will be a big help."

Terri smiled. "Of course! I love you both, i'm happy to help."

Terri followed EJ into the bedroom, Gina looked up and smiled "hi mom"

Terri went up to her daughter and put her arm around her. "Hi baby"

"How are you feeling?"

"Exhasted and my stomach really hurts but besides that i'm ok."

EJ looked at Gina she could barely keep her eyes open. "You look tired G, want me to take her?"

"That would be great." Gina carefully handed the baby to EJ. "i'm gonna get her settled in the nursery I'll be right back."

Gina took her mom's hand and gave it a quick squeeze. "I'm glad you're here mom."

Terri smiled "so am I. I can't believe your a mom."

"I know I can't ether." Gina smiled "you're a grandma now."

"That's right."

There was an awkward pause. Gina and her mom had a good relationship.. For the most part, Gina understood her mom worked crazy hours when she was a kid and that they had to move around for her job. She knew that all of that was to make a life for her. Was it lonely?

Yes. but she understood. But on the other hand Gina felt like she was alone a lot when she was growing up, also all the pressure that her mom put on her to be the best. Terri always said "if you can't be number one at something it isn't wroth doing" it put so much pressure on Gina when she was young, also there was Jamie.

Terri was trying to get them to have a real relationship and had been for years, she didn't see that it was broken from the start and that sometimes broken things couldn't be fixed.

I'm a mom, my mom's a grandma and Jamie… Jamie's an uncle. Gina thought to herself.

"Have you spoken to Jamie?" Terri asked. Her mom was trying again to get them to talk.

Gina took a breath, held it and sighed. Be calm. Don't yell. Gina forced a smile "nope. Not really."

"Don't you think that you should tell him that-" Gina cut her mom off. "Mom, you know I love you but i'm not talking about this with you."

"If you two talked maybe you could work something out."

"Can we not bring up Jamie for 5 minutes?" Gina said "yes he's big and successful and he works with one of my friends but we don't need to talk about it."

"Honey, he's trying.."

"He never tried Mom, he was never in my life. He was my brother he was supposed to be there for me but he never was. He LEFT mom."

"You know it's different."

"How mom? How is it different?"

"He's ten years older then you."

"Even as a kid he was never in my life, he didn't just leave me mom. He left you too. He left us and never came back." Gina felt tears come to her eyes.

"I know that, I know. But it's his life he was never going to live here forever I knew that. It's part of being a parnet is letting your kids go off and live their lives."

Gina looked at her mom in disbelief "how can you just forgive him?"

"There was nothing to forgive, he was just on his own path, Jamie and I have always had a good relationship even in different places. Maybe you should stop holding unto a grudge.."

Gina scoffed "I can't believe you would say that to me. He LEFT mom he was never in my life. Honestly nether were you." she said softly

"Gina.."

"I know you had to make a life for me, you worked so hard. But you were never here. I was always alone. You put so much pressure on me when I was younger, I know you wanted the best for me.. But it sucked."

"I know honey, looking back on it I shoulden't have I just wanted you to be successful. Relationships are hard work sometimes, like with you and Jamie…"

Gina curled her hands into fists "Oh my god mom. You're not listening to a word i'm saying. There is no Jamie and I. We are never going to have a relationship ok? Why do you always bring him up?" Gina didn't wait for her mom to answer "I know he's famous and a music producer and he lives in California. When was the last time you asked me how I am? Or maybe stopped to think about my feelings? Maybe you could have thought 'my only daughter had a C-section and could have died' or 'wow i'm proud of her she finally had a baby after five years?' or I know she's physically and emotionally exhausted I probably shouldn't bring up her brother?"

Terri took Gina's hand. "You know I only want what's best for you and your brother."

"At what cost?" Gina whispered

"Gina-

"Mom I love you , but just-" Gina's emotions took over and she felt the anger burn in her chest "stop. Just please STOP!"

Crying was heard from down the hall. "Oh god I woke Skylar.." Gina put her head in her hands. "I got it!" EJ called

"I'll give you some space," Terri said she looked back at her daughter like she wanted to say a million little things but she stopped and walked out the door.

About 15 minutes later EJ came up to the door, he took one look at Gina's face, and came into the room. "I was gone for 15 minutes what happened?" EJ asked softly "it's nothing. It's not a big deal." Gina said "let me talk to her" Gina sighed "EJ, it's worth it." EJ looked at his wife "You're worth it" he said fiercely, and he went to find Terri.

"Terri.. Look I'm so grateful that you're here. Gina loves you so much. But you really really have to think about what you say. Gina is fragile right now, I know you never see her this way, but I think that's because growing up she was never allowed to be vulnerable, she wouldn't let herself she didn't want to seem weak around you. You have to listen to your daughter, if you don't you're going to lose her.. Trust me I know." EJ paused thinking about his dad.

EJ looked at Terri. "I know you love Jamie. Please just stop mentioning him around Gina. You have two kids, sometimes you only act like you have one."

EJ turned and went to see his wife. EJ went up and hugged her, Gina started sobbing in his arms. "I love you" EJ whispered

"I love you too."

THREE DAYS LATER..

"Hey sweetheart can we talk?"

"Ok?'

Terri came to sit next to her. "I'm sorry about what I said."

"I am too."

"I haven't been the perfect mom I know that. I'm sorry for mentioning Jamie all the time I just wanted you both to be in each others lives."

"Some things can't be fixed mom."

'I know."

"Are we ok?" Terri asked

Gina smiled "for now. Yes. You're my mom and I love you."

Terri smiled and kissed her on the forehead.

EJ was standin in the doorway with a pill bottle in his hand "time for the pain meds" Terri walked out to give them some space.

EJ sat next to her on the bed. "Ok?'

Gina nodded "for now."

"Good. the silence between you two was killing me." EJ opened the pill bottle and gave two pills to Gina.

Gina sighed "they taste awful."

"I know but you have to take them. It's way better than being in constant pain."

Gina took the pills and washed them down with water. "How's Skylar doing?"

"She's good, she wakes up every hour though."

Gina sighed "I wish I could help more I feel so useless."

EJ smiled "it's called recovery. You are doing something your body's trying to heal so you need to rest."

Gina looked at EJ he eyes were bloodshot. "You look exhausted, stay for a bit."

"What if Skylar-

"Did you forget my mom's here? She can handle it. Take a break Eej."

"Ok. But just a small one." EJ laid back in the bed Gina took his hand and held it. EJ smiled and kissed her Gina kissed him back. "How do you feel?' EJ asked

"Lucky." Gina looked at him "I feel lucky because we have you."

EJ smiled and kissed her on the forehead. The couple fell asleep, EJ's head on her shoulder.

I think Gina's mom is great I really do, She cares about Gina and made a life for her the best she could but on the other hand, she was never really around and she put so much pressure on Gina to be the best.. So like that's not great either. I really leaned into when Gina said in season 2 "that was just you asking? How I was feeling?" because I'm 100% sure no one had asked her that before and even though Gina's mom seems pretty great if your kid is 16 and you've never asked how's she's feeling that pretty messed up.
