NO. 12 WHAT COULD GO WRONG?

Prompt: "Mayday, mayday!" Cave In Rusty Nail

Chasing a thief, a building collapses on Viktor and Five.

"Viktor! Five!"

Diego was ripping at the rubble of what used to be a building.

"This is hopeless," Klaus whined. "We should get Luther and Allison."

Diego stepped back to survey the scene.

They were inside chasing someone who broke into the academy and stole something from their late-father's office.

They didn't know what it was, or why it was so important, but anyone who would be willing to risk the wrath of the Umbrella Academy clearly wanted it from some reason.

Viktor and Klaus saw the figure running out and their yells alerted Diego and Five who joined in on the chase.

To this building where they lost the person…and then the building collapsed.

"Could they be further down? Maybe they got out…" Diego tried to reason. Both his brothers were pretty powerful.

"Diego!" Klaus said sharply. "I don't want to wait long enough to be the only person who can see them."

Diego took in the weight of those words.

But then they heard a faint, "hello?"

Viktor groaned as he opened his eyes. He was pinned under some stone, and it was heavy. It uncomfortably pressed up against his ribs, and his leg was pinned.

"Hello?" He called out.

He heard a voice call back, but it was a bit muffled.

"Viktor? Are you ok Buddy?"

Diego.

"Yeah… I'm trapped though."

"I have Klaus with me. Do you see Five?"

Viktor looked around.

There was light peaking through the cracks of the stone. Looks like some of the steel framework of the building ultimately kept him safe. There were just a lot of pieces that got through.

Then he saw him.

"I see Five!"

His brother wasn't too far from him, trapped under some rubble, on his stomach with a visible arm next to him. Thankfully he was facing Viktor, so the littlest brother could see his face. There were a handful of cuts and bruises.

"Is he ok?" Diego asked.

"He's not conscious. I can't reach him."

"Can you use your power to get out?"

Viktor tried to focus.

He pushed the pieces away from his leg, but the steel frame above him shifted and a few more pieces fell.

"Viktor!" He heard Klaus panic from the outside.

"I got myself unpinned, but I don't think I can focus enough to keep this building from coming down on top of us…" Viktor called. "My head hurts."

"You might have a concussion," Diego suggested. "Hang tight. Don't exert yourself too much. We are going to get Luther and Allison. With all of us, we should be able to reach you."

"Alright!" Viktor called back.

He looked back over to Five and started to slink his way around obstacles, trying not to move anything that might cause a further cave-in.

He slid on his stomach under a pipe that was sticking out of some concrete. He couldn't sit up here, so he stayed on his belly.

"Five?" He lined himself to be parallel to Five's face, so if he were to open his eyes, he would see Viktor there. "Five?"

He placed a hand on his brothers and gave it a little shake and squeeze.

But there was no movement.

No sign of consciousness.

"Come on," Viktor pleaded softly. "You survive everything…"

He sighed and glanced around. He could push himself back into the area where he could sit up. But he didn't want to leave Five's side.

"It's been a crazy time since you came back," Viktor said out loud. "But I'm pretty sure I only survived this far because of you. So please, Five. Stay with me."

"Where m'I goin'?" Came his brothers slurred voice.

"Five?"

"Not so loud," his brother winced. He opened his eyes and glanced around.

Viktor watched as Five realized they were trapped, and that he was pinned down.

"The building…" he pieced together.

"It came down on us. Klaus and Diego are safe. They went to get the others to get us out…"

"I'll get us out…"

"Five, you're hurt. Even if you had the energy to blink, with or without me, we don't know what shape you are in. I tried moving everything with my power, and I don't think I have the energy right now to help us if the whole place came down."

Five closed his eyes for a moment to think.

Viktor was right, they weren't in the best position.

"Five?"

He opened his eyes slowly. "Mm?"

"Five, don't go to sleep. Can you stay awake with me?"

"You know the 'going to sleep with a concussion' myth has been debunked…" Five informed him.

"Humor me."

"I'll try."

"Viktor!" Diego's voice came again.

"Yeah!"

Viktor called back, rolling slightly so there was a clear path for his voice. "Five's awake, but he's not in good shape."

"Hold on!" Luther's voice sounded. "We are going to get you out."

"See?" Viktor said to Five. "They got us."

Five didn't answer. His eyes were closed again.

"Five?" Viktor shook his hand. "Five?!"

"Is everything alright?" Allison called to him.

"Five is unconscious again. He's not waking up!" Viktor noticed something. "His lips look blue…"

"We are hurrying best we can," Diego informed him. "We have to be careful that we don't trigger more to fall on you both."

"Just get me an opening," Viktor called out. "I have the energy for the rest."

About 10 minutes passed and every few moments Viktor tried to wake Five.

Finally there was a clear opening.

Viktor turned, his eyes lighting up as he sent out his energy to move the stone that was weighing Five down. Then he created a shield around the area to the opening.

"Someone help me get him, quick."

Luther couldn't fit, so Diego crawled through to grab Five.

Viktor followed them out and the moment he could stand, he released his power.

Klaus caught him before he could hit the ground, exhausted.

"We need to check both of you over," Allison ran her fingers over Viktor's face and head.

"Let's get home."

Viktor woke up to find Five sitting next to his bed.

"You're ok," he said.

"And you're awake," Five responded. "How do you feel?"

"Like I had a building drop on me."

"Funny," Five said with a slight smile. "Me too."

"But you're really ok?"

Five nodded. "Turns out the stone that was trapping me was making it hard for me to breathe."

It clicked for Viktor. "That's why your lips were blue, and you couldn't stay awake…"

"Lack of oxygen," Five concluded.

"Well I'm glad you're ok now."

"I am, thanks to you."

"You've saved me. Figured I could return the favor."

Five and Viktor have had some great moments. I hope we get some more in the new season!
