Several years ago, Hellfire had successfully apprehended the villain and handed him over to the police.
"We got this villain covered; he won't be a problem," said the officer, saluting. "You did a fine job. Thank you."
"You're thinking Skullcrusher could have settled the matter 30 minutes sooner, aren't you?" Hellfire huffed. "You wished that he answered the call."
"No sir, nothing of the sort."
Hellfire narrowed his eyes at him. "That villain is no joke. Watch him."
"Yes, sir!"
When he stepped outside the police station, he was immediately pounced on by the press. He ignored them and kept on walking, but someone in the crowd was watching him closely.
Now years later, that same guy was hanging outside of the Jorgenson residents.
'Hellfire, it's been so long since you left an impression on me,' he said. 'You blaze like a walking inferno. A star in the form of a man. One look, and I knew nothing could outshine you. Do you remember Hellfire?
It was the day when I lost all hope; even the autumn clout seemed to be mocking me. I saw you just after you captured a thief in front of me. Ever since that day, you have been my only hope. Seven years ago, my dream almost came true, but you took me alive. The only thing that a man gets to choose for himself is his Ending.
At last, the day has come for us to meet again. What do you think I did first after getting out of prison? Before I even ate? The most important thing, I started digging into your personal life. Why, you ask? Isn't it obvious? I want you to enter me. Yes, Hellfire, you are the one I long for.'
Scoldlout had just exited the house and just pulled out his phone. It was then that the villain pulled out a syringe and injected himself with a drug, and then began to follow Scoldlout.
"Wait, Snotlout has another brother," said Ranger.
"Yeah, was the eldest brother," said Hiccup.
Ranger looked at Adelaide. "I take it the reason he's not here is because—"
Adelaide nodded sadly. "He's not with us anymore."
"Scold and Scorch were incredibly close growing up; they spend their days playing together," said Adelaide. "Snotlout was about five years old when it happened."
"Yeah, I was there at the funeral," said Hiccup. "But I don't know how it happened, though."
"It's not something we like to talk about," said Adelaide sadly. "As you imagine, Scold blames our father for what happened. Mom and dad were complete strangers to one another for many years, but it's gotten better since."
"But your brother still, go of his anger to your father," Ranger surmised. "In his mind, our father basically killed Scorch."
"We won't tell anyone else that you said this to us, especially Snotlout," Hiccup promised.
Adelaide smiled at him. "Thank you."
"It's time for me to take you back to school," said Spitelout as he entered the dining room with Snotlout.
"Yes, sir," said Hiccup.
They soon made their way outside, where he began stepping into Hellfire's limo.
"Thank you for having us," said Hiccup to Adelaide and Agatha.
"It was great seeing you, cuz," Adelaide smiled.
"Be sure to send our regards to your father and mother," said Agatha.
"It was an honour to be in your home," Ranger bowed.
"It was an honour to have you," Agatha smiled.
"Snotlout, you behave yourself," said Adelaide.
"When do I not?" Snotlout snorted.
Hiccup merely shook his head.
"Adelaide… thank you," said Spitelout.
Adelaide smiled.
Scoldlout was walking through the street, talking to his girlfriend on the phone.
"Hey, it's me," he said. "Yeah, so I had to bail on our plans tonight. No, I've got nothing going on tomorrow. We can see a movie or…"
He stopped when he suddenly saw the white lines on the road moving on their own, and then they suddenly grabbed him.
Hiccup and the others were currently in the back of the limo while Hellfire sat in the front passenger seat next to his driver.
"I want to see your progress on a faster timetable," said Hellfire. "Look at shipping your time schedules. In addition to our weekend, I want all of you to work two days on a school week."
"That was what it was like for me and the others last time," said Hiccup.
"We also need to prepare for finals," Ranger added. "Hiccup, do you think you can assist me in science?"
"You got it."
"Why do I have to split in the back with them?" Snotlout complained.
"Oh, so you're not happy with the freeride, huh?" said the driver rather aggressively.
'What an aggressive driver,' said Hiccup.
The driver then turned and looked at Hellfire. "Hellfire, you really need to show your children more respect."
"I'm working on it," said Hellfire.
"Huh, I guess it's true that success changes a man."
Then suddenly, they saw something heading straight towards them, and the driver quickly turned the wheel to avoid crashing into it. They drove past and saw that it was Scoldlout, who apparently was wrapped by some sort of white lines.
"It's Scold!" Snotlout stared.
Ranger opened the window and looked outside.
"Pull your head inside, your idiot!" the driver yelled.
Hiccup then noted the lines on the road began to move on their own. "Look! The lines on the road!"
"Quit talking your bite your tongue off!"
They then suddenly saw someone standing in the middle of the road.
"What a nice house you live in, Hellfire!" he yelled.
The driver quickly turned away and put on the brake to swerve out of the way. He ended up hurting the barrier and spun out of control, and Hellfire quickly launched himself out of the car.
"Let my son go!" Hellfire demanded as he shot towards the villain.
"Not so fast!" the villain yelled and pulled Scold right out in front of him, using him as a human shield.
Hellfire quickly skated to a halt, he could easily take the villain down, but he would hurt Scold in the process. He looked at the villain, and there was something familiar about him.
"Finally, you remember me, don't you?" said the villain joyously. "Please say you do!"
"Seven years ago," said Hellfire. "You were on the verge of a rampage, but I showed up. You went by a villa name… it was—"
"Yes, that's right!" said the villain with tears in his eyes. "Oh, wow. You didn't forget! Thank you! You may be so happy! You remember Ending!"
"You heard me," said Hellfire making the flames around him grow larger. "Put down, my son!"
Ending laughed. "Sorry, Hellfire, but you've got to understand. You made so many things that I could never dream of happening. Not in 1 million years. That's why I admire you. You see, I have nothing in this world worth protecting."
He then controlled one of the white lines with an arrow attached to it towards Scold's right face. "Don't think I won't kill him. That depends on you; please don't mess it up this time!" He then began hugging himself, giving Hellfire a deranged look. "I want you to murder me."
Hellfire couldn't believe what he was hearing; this madman had kidnapped his son and threatened to kill him so that he would kill him. The man wanted him to help him in his suicide.
"Yeah, I know," said Ending as if reading his mind. "Heroes don't kill even things get crazy, but then again, you obliterated the Red Death. I am the same as that puppet, a nonentity! I could be alive or dead or somewhere in between; who knows. Hard to tell, so think nothing of it! Use those incredible flames of yours to turn me into ash!"
Then suddenly, there was an explosion coming from the car as Snotlout used an explosion to shatter one of the windows.
"Let's go," said Hiccup.
Ranger nodded and fired a burst of eyes knocking the door next to him off its hinges.
Snotlout then flew out of the car through the shattered window, and Ranger created a trail of ice while Hiccup ran out.
"Hey, not so fast, brats!" said the driver. "You're forgetting something!"
He then immediately pulled down a lever, released the boot and fired the cases containing their costumes into the air. Hiccup saw them and reacted by jumping higher up into the air and grabbing two of the suitcases. "Snotlout! Ranger! Catch!"
Snotlout and Ranger caught the cases and quickly pulled out their support gear.
"This guy is done for," said Snotlout as he pulled on his gauntlets.
"We won't let them hurt Scold," Ranger growled as he put on his heater.
"No matter what, we will protect him," said Hiccup as he used his technopathic powers to have his armour fly out and attach itself to him.
"Let my brother go!" Snotlout demanded.
Three white lines suddenly shot out towards them, hitting them hard, but the three of them used the lessons that they had learned from Hellfire. Hiccup fired his air pressure move shattering through the white lines, Ranger froze them solid, causing them to shatter seconds later, and Snotlout unleashed a powerful explosion demolishing them.
"Those work-study kids?" said Ending and then immediately jumped back. "You'll ruin my glorious death!"
'The fool, he found himself off-balance,' said Hellfire and quickly launched forwards.
"Let's keep this between us, Hellfire; you're my only hope!" said Ending.
'Now's my chance; I can reach up easily at this speed.'
Unfortunately, before he could catch up with Ending, he used Scold as a human shield again. This caused Hellfire to pause, but Hiccup and the others then shot right past him.
"Why haven't you incinerated me?" Ending cried. "Looks like one son's life is not enough for you to break your stupid roles!"
White lines then immediately launch themselves straight towards Snotlout. However, Snotlout immediately began to compress his frames and then unleashed them, burning away from the lines.
"I won't tell you again. Drop Scold!" Snotlout demanded.
Ending yelled in annoyance. "If you don't kill me quick! What happens next will be your fault!"
Suddenly the lines believe three cars shot upwards and launched them up into the air. Ranger saw this and quickly spun around.
"More innocents are going to end up dead!"
Ending then placed Scold down in front of the train tracks just as the train was arriving.
"Toothless, but all power to the thrusters!" Hiccup ordered.
"Right away," said Toothless.
Hiccup then flew down towards Scold at incredible speed and grabbed him. He then quickly shot upwards just before the train hit them, pulling them to safety.
"That was cutting it close," said Hiccup.
Ranger was facing the card and immediately slammed his foot into the ground causing ice pillars to erupt. They then quickly began to form into a slide and gently had a car slide down safely to the ground.
Hellfire stared at them, speechless. 'Look at you all. After a single week.'
Hiccup looked down at Ending. "None of your wishes are going to come true!"
Snotlout landed right in front of Ending and blasted him with a concentrated burst of flames. "He took the words right out of my mouth."
Ending was sent flying forwards, and Ranger quickly slammed his foot down, causing ice to erupt around him, trapping him in place.
Once all the cars had safely landed on the ground, the occupants climbed out, a little shaken but otherwise fine.
"I thought I was a goner."
"Is everyone all right?" Ranger asked.
"Uh-huh," said a guy who had just thrown up. "You saved me."
"Yeah, thanks. Your amazing."
"I'm just glad that you are all okay," said Ranger.
Hellfire rushed over to Scold; you had just been placed on the ground by Hiccup.
"You good?" Hiccup asked.
Then to their surprise, Hellfire hoped Scold; he must have been so distraught that he didn't notice that he also hugged Hiccup at the same time. It only took a few seconds to realise this and quickly released them.
"You all right?" he asked.
"He's just a little shaken," said Hiccup little stunned.
"So hot," said Scold.
"Well, this is awkward," said Hiccup and managed to free himself from Hellfire's grasp. "Snotlout, is that villains secure?"
Snotlout was standing next to a charred and frozen Ending. "Of course, he's secured."
"This is all wrong," Ending cried. "Not you guys. Not you. It was supposed to be like this."
Hiccup looked at Ranger. "Ranger, are the civilians hurt?"
"Everyone is perfectly fine," said Ranger.
"Then this was a total victory," said Hiccup.
Snotlout smirked at his father. "What was that he wanted us to do, old man? This spring, just this one time, I want you to show me that you can capture a villain faster than I can?"
"Now is not the time, Snotlout," said Hiccup dryly.
"No, he's right," said Hellfire. "You all did great. You covered for my mistake and outmatched me in terms of speed."
Hiccup rubbed the back of his head. "In fairness, the villain had grabbed Scold. It only made sense that you hesitated."
"But I shouldn't have."
Scold suddenly realised that his father was hugging him and quickly pushed him away. "Get off of me."
Everyone was completely silent for a few seconds.
"I'm sorry," said Hellfire. "For a second, all I could think was if I rescued you, maybe you would never… you'd never say anything to me again. Even if you are angry."
Scold just stared at him in shock.
"Scold, you may not believe this, but I swear I never meant to neglect you, children. I ran for my troubles and let you be responsible for too much. And Scorch, I might as well have killed him myself."
They could hear horns being beeped as people in the cars were unaware of what had just happened.
"You never meant to neglect us?" Scold stared. "Well, it doesn't matter because all I remember is feeling abandoned, like Scorch said. It will be a warm day in Helheim before I'll ever forgive you, you got it?" However, when he said this, tears began to form in his eyes. "You see, I'm not a kind person like Adelaide."
"You say that, but you still show up for your family's sake, for your sister and your mother. For Adelaide longs for a happy family with all her heart because I ruined ours. Aren't you making an effort, so she will lose faith that we will have peaceful times ahead of us? That we can start over? You are kind in your own way, just like your brother."
Scold wasn't able to stop the tears, but he didn't know what to say.
"It's okay if you don't forgive me," Hellfire continued as if reading his mind. "Because I don't want forgiveness; I want to atone."
"Whenever you are around us, sis seems so happy, mum as well," said Scold. "But me… when I see your face, all those memories rush back. Why should I have to get over my feelings when everything is your fault? So you want to atone? What the hell? Is there anything you can do for us?"
"I do have something in mind."
Ending, then burst into tears. "No! No! Stop it, Hellfire! Why are you suddenly being so soft? Just get angry! You're my hope! Don't give up! Where are your flames? I need you to destroy me! Kill me, please! This isn't what I wanted! It's not fair! Please, you still have time to kill me! Murder me, Hellfire!"
Hiccup shook his head. "Man, this guy is going to need a home team of psychiatrists."
The police arrived and immediately set up cones when the white lines had been so cars could carry on their journey safely. Additionally, they apprehended Ending and figured out that he had used a performance drug to boost his powers.
"His ability to control painted white lines was chemically boosted," said the officer in charge.
"Is that so?" said Hellfire.
"Yeah, those drugs aren't as prevalent now, but they're still on the streets."
"You better be more careful, boss," said his driver. "That makes two times that you've been targeted. This darkness seems unending."
Hellfire thought back to what Star Servant had been preaching before his arrest. "Yes, but light will never go away either."
Hiccup and the others were with Scold getting quite a bit of attention from kids their age, especially the girls.
"Hey, bad boy and the armour seems pretty cute."
"Yeah, but what about the muscles on Hellfire's son."
"And that Japanese kid seems cool."
"Uh, thank you for earlier," said Scold looking at Hiccup. "So, what's your hero name?"
"Night, Fury, and you're quite welcome," Hiccup smiled and then turned towards Snotlout. "Speaking of hero names, have you finally decided on one?"
"Yeah, but I'm not gonna share it with you, not yet, at least," Snotlout huffed.
Ranger merely smiled. "Your people skills are improving."
"Shut up, Ranger."
Hellfire looked at the three of them. 'Hawks looks like you've got sharp eyes.'
After Ending had been taken away, Hellfire personally took them back to school. He then made his way back home with Scold, where they were met by Agatha and Adelaide.
"You were attacked by a villain!" Adelaide stared.
"For you, okay?" Agatha asked.
"Yeah, Snotlout and those friends of his saved me," he said, feeling a little embarrassed.
"Seriously?" Adelaide blinked.
"Uh-huh," Scold nodded.
Hellfire looked at his wife and daughter. "Listen, I already talked to Snotlout and Scoldlout about this. I know the two of you have been trying to get this family together. That is quite the burden, and we ended up having to you do all the work, especially Adelaide. I will do everything I can to make life easier."
"Wait, does that mean you going to live with us?" Agatha asked.
"I'll remain here."
