My dearest Scarlett,
Another letter of yours makes my heart soar, your words on those pages are always a blessing to read. My friends already make fun of me, in a way, but I don't mind. They're just jealous about the love I have for you. Your father really seems to want to uphold that ridiculous tradition he has set up. Well, one day, you'll have to tell him that I have stolen your heart, hopefully he won't be too angry at me. About my parents, you must know that my father is the one that doesn't really care about what I do as long as I'm happy, my mother however, she will not see you as an equal, or even a potential Daughter-in-law. She might think that you're a servant I hired.
Anyway, if I have the time, or get invited to go to them again, I might take you with me, but I'd rather not let you be exposed to their snobbery. I wish to protect you, and my own sanity, so we will have to see what will happen.
I have thought about your questions and here are my replies. I hope they are satisfactory.
Penelope sounds like a good name, I was also thinking about naming a daughter Penelope, it sounds like a grant name, a name worthy of a great mind. Naming a boy is a more difficult task, but I think that I would name a boy after my brother, so it would be Hershel. My brother was very important to me, so I'd like to have the chance to be there for him, even if it's my son and not my brother. But as you said, it does have time still. I however hope that it will be a reality one day, nonetheless.
I have never been one for activities like that. My mother wasn't very fond of me playing outside in the snow in winter, she was scared I would get hurt or ruin the perfectly good clothes I had. I did play in the snow when I was still with my biological parents. That however doesn't mean I'm not willing to try it with you. I think it would be a nice idea for a rendezvous in winter, unless I have to travel again.
Traditions are nice, and I understand your dislike on upholding them at all costs. I for one think that it is nice to have traditions, but only if it's about holidays or something like that. Now that I think about it, I just remembered that my parents hold some sort of Christmas party every year. They might ask me to attend. Maybe I can take you with me, but I'll be getting a letter from them about it. Anyway, I like traditions, like eating a certain meal on the holidays or something like that, it shouldn't however interfere in the individual decisions of someone.
Well, as you stated before, it is very hard to find things to ask you, but I#m a smart man, I can figure things out. I have at least one question that is burning in my mind.
Will you tell me more about your family please? Your father stated that your red hair is from his grandmother, but I don't know much more. Has he told you more about her? I would love to understand your family.
Is there something you really want to Christmas? Like something new to wear or a new book? I would like to know, you are my girlfriend after all and I want to give you the perfect gift. Finding it is quite the puzzle to solve. If you are curious about me, I'd like a pocket watch, but I'd be able to afford it myself.
Is there something you really dislike? Like you can't even bring yourself to talk about it without a searing rage consuming you? I know that I have something like that, but that is none of your concern as of right now. Maybe one day I tell you about it, but for now, I'll keep it a secret.
I'm already counting the days until your next letter, however, I might not be able to read it as soon as it arrives. I have been asked to join a group that has uncovered something interesting in a small town called Stansbury, they have asked for my expertise. I will be thinking of you however, as you have consumed my every thought.
With deepest admiration,
Desmond
