Chapter 8: Friendly Spar (Yuta)

A new day had started in Republic City.

And with it, presented new possibilities for it's citizens.

But for a certain young avatar, and a certain jujutsu sorcerer,it granted them the opportunity to engage once more in what was quickly becoming one of their favorite joint activities together.

Sparring.

It started off as a suggestion from Korra to help both her and Yuta better understand one another by dwelling on their love for fighting.

And though this was only the second time they had chosen to spar each other, their eagerness was palpable.

And just like their previous bout,the stage for their matchup remained unchanged.

Air Temple Island.

The openess and spacing of the Training Grounds, coupled with the absence of the Island's other residents made it the perfect place for Korra and Yuta to have their bout.

The rules were simple; whoever got knocked down on their back lost.

Yuta would take a 'Back Stance' while Korra would take a classic boxing stance. Both of them grinning,as they eagerly awaited for the other to make the first move.

In an instant,Korra would throw fire blast jabs at Yuta,to which Yuta would duck and run forward side to side in order to avoid it. Korra would then follow up with a low, spinning roundhouse, sweep kick that would send a wave of fire towards Yuta's legs. Yuta would then jump forward in a diving like motion in order to avoid it, before performing a double handstand. With that momentum,he would perform a front handspring, catching Korra by surprise.

Reeling back his right hand into a fist,Yuta would land by punching the ground where Korra once stood,as she jump to her left side in order to avoid it. Yuta would then get up to throw a straight left punch at Korra,to which she would arch her neck back to avoid it. In retaliation,she would throw a right cross,to which Yuta would weave to the left in order to avoid.

A follow up overhead back fist with that same hard would cause Yuta to step back slightly to dodge it. Yuta would then arch his neck backwards in order to avoid a kick aimed at his jaw from Korra's right leg. Before she dropped the leg fully,Korra then threw a roundhouse kick with that same leg to the side of his face, causing Yuta to hold up his left hand to block it.

Korra's eyes would suddenly widen before she would hold Yuta's head with her right hand, place her left leg on his abdomen while simultaneously dropping her right leg to do so as well, before jumping off him like a springboard with a back flip, with the impact causing Yuta to skid slightly backwards.

Korra would clench her hands into fists and thrust them forward,thus sending a torrent of flames towards Yuta in the process. Once she landed on the ground,she ceased her assault,as the flames were now were Yuta once stood. In spite of that,her eyes were narrowed, and her muscles were tense. She expected a counterattack from Yuta at any moment.

Her instincts would prove to be correct,as almost immediately,Yuta would dash through the flames seemingly unscathed, with only light sud on his clothing. Like a speeding bullet, Yuta rushed towards Korra and thrust his right hand for a palm strike. An attack Korra would slap away with her left hand, before following up with a right elbow jab aimed at Yuta's chest,to which he would use his left hand to block, causing him to skid back slightly.

Korra would then perform a '540' kick with her left leg,to which Yuta would rest his left knee on the ground, and hold his right hand above his head to block it. Once Korra landed,she would throw a snap kick with her left leg aimed for Yuta's jaw, causing him to hastily get back on his feet, and arch his neck backwards to dodge it. Yuta would let out a light gasp with widened eyes before jumping to his right side to avoid an axe kick from that same leg aimed for his face. He would look on in awe as the ground underneath Korra's leg cracked significantly.

In a swift motion,Korra would turn to face Yuta,then throw a right jab which would send a fireball towards his face. Yuta would then move forward slightly to his left to avoid it. His eyes would widen slightly as he would hold up his right hand around the right side of his face, which would help him to block a right elbow aimed there from Korra. Yuta's eyes would immediately fall to the ground, and upon doing so,he would see Korra dragging her right leg to prepare for a reverse sweep kick,to which he would jump back slightly once she attempted the attack.

Korra would then follow up with a flying knee from her left leg aimed for Yuta's face, to which Yuta would barely manage to hold up his left hand to block. The impact of the blow would cause Yuta to stumble backwards slightly, before falling on his left knee with a grunt. Yuta would then throw a backhand with his right to Korra's legs,to which she would jump up to avoid,step on his left shoulder with her leg before jumping off him to perform a '180' flip, causing Yuta to gasp lightly.

Korra had gained great air height with her jump,as she entered a standing position while falling to the ground. Before she landed,she would throw a reverse roundhouse and a roundhouse kick with her right and left leg respectively, sending two fireballs to a near unsuspecting Yuta instantly. Yuta,who was just beginning to stand up and had turned to face Korra, barely managed to hold up his hands and cross them around his face,to which the two fireballs would hit.

With pained grunts,Yuta would fall back on his left knee once more, but despite his inconvenience, his eyes were glued on Korra who had just landed a few feet away from him with anticipation of her next move. Once Korra threw a flaming, left legged, low side kick aimed for Yuta's face, Yuta's eyes widened in realization, and in a swift motion,he would perform a perfect split, lowering his upper body to the ground to avoid the kick.

Korra would be taken aback greatly by Yuta's dodge,as she let out an audible gasp. Not skipping a beat,Yuta would flip himself on his back, hook Korra's right leg with his own,grab her by the arm with his right hand, and bring her to the ground while her lying on her back,all before she could react.

Just as she made a move to get back up,she saw Yuta sitting up and staring at her intently. She would meet his gaze with equal intensity, and for a few fleeting seconds, silence was all that stood between. Silence, that would be broken as Korra would let out a sigh of dissapointment.

"Aw man, i thought i had you that time." Whined Korra, which caused a small smile to form on Yuta's face.

"You did your best, that's what matters." Said Yuta as he offered his right hand to Korra,to which she accepted with a smile on her face as well.

"I guess." Said Korra as she got up to her feet.

"But looks like even my best isn't enough for you,huh,Yuta?" Asked Korra as she put her hands on her waist.

"What do you mean?" Asked Yuta,as he was slightly confused.

"That move you just did. The one you used to win. How'd you do that? I couldn't have expected that." Said Korra with a mixture of dissapointment over her loss, and curiosity over what would be Yuta's answer.

"Oh, that?" Began Yuta with a smile.

"It's a move my friend,Maki taught me about a year ago." Explained Yuta.

"Maki? The same friend who taught you how to fight?" Asked Korra with surprise.

"The very one." Answered Yuta.

"Wow, she's a really good fighter." Praised Korra.

"The very best." Said Yuta with a tone of admiration.

"Even more than you?" Asked Korra

"Yes." Said Yuta casually.

"You're being modest again, aren't you?" Asked Korra, not believing him.

"Not this time." Replied Yuta with a smile upon noticing Korra's doubts.

"Seriously?" Asked Korra,to which Yuta wouldn't respond verbally,opting instead to slightly widen his smile.

"Wow. Just wow." Said Korra in astonishment.

"I've seen some of the stuff you can do, and then, i still find it hard to believe." Admitted Korra.

"Now, you're telling me there's even someone better than you in fighting?". Asked Korra,her disbelief evident.

"That's just...wow. Maki right?" Yuta nodded in response.

"I'd hate to go up against her in a real fight if we ever met." Said Korra.

"I have to agree with you on that one. I've lost to her more times than I'd like to admit." Agreed Yuta.

"Sounds about right if she's that good." Said Korra with a smile.

"Yeah." Said Yuta with a chuckle. The two of them would then begin walking away from the training grounds and instead towards the hallway.

"So she's the best hand to hand fighter you know?" Asked Korra while walking beside Yuta.

"Her, and a junior of mine." Answered Yuta.

"Huh?" Asked Korra with confusion. The two of them had managed to reach the hallway, and upon doing so,they would sit on the path beside each other.

"His name is Yuji Itadori. He's a natural at martial arts, and his strength is superhuman." Explained Yuta.

"Just like you it seems." Noted Korra.

"You could say that." Said Yuta with a chuckle.

"What? You trying to say he's stronger than you?" Asked Korra,to which Yuta would once again only respond with a smile.

"No. No way. I don't believe you." Said Korra vehemently.

"I wouldn't lie to you,Korra." Said Yuta with sincerity.

"I know that, but you're too modest,Yuta." Countered Korra.

"You're strong enough to stop moving trucks with just one punch, yet you act like it's nothing special." Said Korra in reference to Yuta's first encounter with the Equalists.

"I understand why you're suprised, but it's really not that special." Said Yuta with a shrug.

"You're doing it again." Pointed out Korra.

"Alright, Korra." Said Yuta with a chuckle.

"How can I make you believe me then?" Asked Yuta with a smile.

"Who's the third best fighter you know?" Asked Korra almost immediately.

"Hmm" Hummed Yuta, pondering the question by placing his right hand under his chin.

"Before,it would have been an easy question for me to answer, but now... I'm not so sure." Admitted Yuta.

"Huh? Why's that?" Asked a confused Korra.

"That's because the third best fighter i know is either between Todo...or you." Said Korra.

"Me?!" Shouted Korra in surprise.

"Ok,now i know you're being too modest,Yuta. Said Korra.

"Ahahaha." Laughed Yuta heartily.

"What? What's so funny?" Asked a confused Korra.

"Why are you..." Korra's eyes would widen in realization.

"You said that to tease me, didn't you?" Asked Korra.

"That's not fair, Yuta." Said Korra with a pout.

"I'm sorry,i couldn't help myself." Said Yuta as he had mostly stopped laughing, only chuckling lightly instead.

"But i am being sincere when i say that you are one of the best hand to hand fighters I've ever met,Korra." Said Yuta with a genuine smile.

"Your fighting style and experience is the only thing that stops you from reaching Todo's level. You're a natural,Korra. And i know you'll only keep getting better." Encouraged Yuta.

Yuta's words had shocked Korra greatly to say the least,as she wasn't sure how exactly to respond.

"That's high praise coming from you."Korra would eventually say with a small smile,her cheeks briefly becoming q faint pink due to slight embarrassment.

"And I mean every word." Said Yuta with sincerity.

"I know. Thank you,Yuta." Said Korra with a a grateful smile.

"You're always welcome,Korra." Said Yuta as he smiled brightly.

That marks the end of the Fourth Sneak Peek from Yuta's perspective.

Now for the announcement:

The "Upcoming Legend of Korra x Jujutsu Kaisen Story Sneak Peeks" is fast approaching it's end. Though I can't give a definitive number of how many chapters are left before it's conclusion,I can say that they're much less than 10, and closer to six at most, and 4 at least.

Ideally, the last two chapters will be posted during early December, and a chapter announcing who between Yuji and Yuta won the voting poll, along with the name of the story and it's release date will be released December 31st.
