Lost

Chapter Five

Meanwhile, deep within the aisle of the Golden Sun Library, many of the librarians were scanning the shelves at Chiron's request. They were to seek any information about the golden cube, but every single one of them came up with nothing.

While the other librarians were still scanning the shelves from the first floor and up, Helen Williams took a set of keys and walked down the stairs to the basement.

Stopping at a wide wooden door with a sliver bolt lining the side, Helen pulled out the keys and flipped through them. She stopped at a sliver key with a star crest that matched the one on the keyhole. Slipping the key inside, she turned it and stepped back as the door slid open.

Walking inside, Helen flipped on the lights, welcomed with spiderwebs and dust that covered the floor, cabinets, and shelves. Helen took a deep breath, which caused her to cough and sneeze. After that was done, Helen made her way over to the shelves.

Scanning over the books one by one, she found it easy to read the titles at first. But as she ventured further toward the back, she noticed many of the written in either Latin or Greek and possible other languages. Good thing she studied up on her Latin, but even so she could bare read the titles. But still none of them held an information on a golden cube.

Sighing, Helen shook her head. She wasn't sure if she should continue walking through the aisle. Just as she was about to turn around and head back, a flickering light caught her eyes. Heading down the aisle a little more, she followed the light to a book with a gold letter on the side. Pulling it out and dusting it off, she read the title.

"The Lost Goddess," Helen said to herself.

Flipping through the pages, Helen's eyes wandered over the words. At first, they were in Latin, but the light flicker transforming the words into English. Flipping through more of the pages, her eyes widen she came across a picture of the golden cube alongside a woman with a long black robe covering her face but her green eyes peaked out, giving off a slight glow.

"I found it," Helen said aloud.

"That you did, but this place is dangerous, child," a familiar voice said.

Helen turned around to see Janet staring right back at her. She jumped up, but Jane merely extended out her hand.

"Come, my dear, let us leave here," Janet said.

Helen nodded as she walked toward the exit, with Jane right behind her. Turning the key once more, the black wooden slammed shut. Keeping silent, Helen and Jane walked up the stairs. The moment they were back on the ground floor, Jane shut the door behind them and locked it.

Helen wanted to ask why, but that would have to wait. Turning to Janet, she showed the book to her.

"The Lost Goddess hm interesting," Janet said.

"It has the picture of the cube in it and talks about talk about a conduit,"

"Hm," Janet said. Narrowing her eyes, she screeched her chin. "Contact Chiron, tell him we have what he is looking for."

Helen nodded, but as she headed over to the front desk, a loud boom shook the library. Ignoring it, Helen did as she was told she was about to picking up the phone when she noticed many of the librarians looking outside the door and windows. Another boom louder than before shook the library even more.

"Sent it to him now. Looks like we're going to have some trouble soon," Janet said.

Nodding, Helen pressed the phone up to the book and tapping it with a green key. It disappeared.

Slipping on her quiver and grabbing her bow, she stood by Janet, who pulled out his staff while the other librarians pulled out their weapons. They watched as the blue sky go dark.

Opening the hotel room door, Percy laid down on the king-size bed with a sigh. Smiling, Sarah Jane set up her purse down on the table while turning on the TV. Her eyes went to her watch. Pressing many buttons, Percy looked up at the while ceiling.

"Do you have kids?" Percy asked, curious.

"Yes, a son Luke," Sarah Jane said, switching the dial.

Percy shivered the moment he heard that name.

"I know a Luke who's the son of Hermes... and let's just say he has some issues,"

Sarah Jane nodded as she kept turning the dial on her watch until an image appeared on the wall. "My Luke is an artificial human created by an alien race known as the Bane."

Whoa... he must be super smart,"

"Indeed, he had a chance to go to university early, but he stayed behind and graduate with his friends," Sarah Jane said.

"I couldn't finish high school. Being a demigod is one thing, but being the child of Poseidon has always put my life in danger. But they teach us at camp Half-blood so it's not all bad. But I want to college one day,"

Stopping what she was doing, Sarah Jane looked up at Percy from across the room.

"From what I see, you have hit a fork in the road. We all do in life. Maybe after all of this is done, you can finally reach the goal you've been striving for. Sarah Jane paused. "Don't give up Percy, you will reach your goal."

Percy smiled. He needed to hear that. For a long time, he never saw himself ever getting to college and while he knew this side of his life would always be there, he can't give up on his dream. Nodding, he kept smiling. He needed to hear that.

"Thank you,"

"Anytime, now let's see what going on in the world," Sarah Jane said, turning on the TV.

Flipping through the channels, Sarah Jane stopped when she reached the news. Percy looked up at the wall to see a digital version of Mr. Smith. Smiling, he shook his head at the wonders of technology; he thought. Then his eyes went to the TV, where the words "Breaking News!" spread across the screen in big white letters.

Sarah Jane and Percy's eyes widen as they watched the image on the screen of the London eye glowing as creatures jumped and flew out, wreaking havoc across long as the dark sky loomed above. Wails and screeches roar as echoed, causing many to take cover as minotaurs rampaged through the streets, turning over cars and ramming thought police cards and harpies glide across the sky, picking people up and dropping them.

"Mr. Smith?" Sarah Jane asked.

"Someone has opened a huge space pocket, hence the appearance of the creatures." Mr. Smith said.

"Who's ever behind this has just created a big distraction," Percy said.

"To slipping around unnoticed," Sarah Jane added.

Percy looked at Sarah Jane and vice versa.

"I'm on it," Sarah Jane said as she switched the screen, scanning the area for another space pocket. "Rest. This is going to take a while.

"You sure?" Percy asked.

"If anything comes up, I'll wake you."

Yawning, Percy closed his eyes. Patting his pocket, he wandered off to sleep the moment he felt the cube.

Glancing over at Percy, Sarah Jane looked back at the screen on the wall. Scanning over the many space pockets in the area, she narrowed the search down to six pockets that were close by. Eliminating them one by one, she found herself with only two pockets left. One that had a one-hour time limit while the other had only 30 minutes.

"Scan both pockets. Do they have a chance of teleporting us to the US? Sarah Jane asked.

Mr. Smith didn't say a word at first as his light flashed and flickered.

"Negative, neither one has a high enough change of teleporting the both of you to the United States." Mr. Smith replied.

Sighing, Sarah Jane rubbed her temples before shaking her head.

"But I have found one with a 98.99% change of teleporting you both to the United States," Mr. Smith bellowed.

Sarah Jane had a bad feeling about what she was about to ask. "Where is it?"

"The London Eye,"

Shaking her head, Sarah Jane looked back at the news the video changed back to the London Eye, where the monsters were emerging.

"Oh boy…. it's never easy, is it?
