AN: Somebody missed me?~
Well, people first of all I apologize for delay, as per usual, things just love getting hard at home, and honestly, I want to upload at least 2 chapters of this a month, but motivation comes and goes for as saddening as it may be. Still, that doesn't mean I'll leave this behind!
... Oh, yeah, AND THANKS FOR THE 1K+ VIEWS! You're all the best!
Hope you enjoy this lighter toned chapter. ^_^
One would think that, in an era where alarms don't exist, people would find ways to wake up early if they needed to wake up early.
A person from modern society would surely think the usual cliche of waiting for the cock's cry to wake everyone up. In a fantasy land, however, Saito would think that a dragon's roar would be what is used to signal the start of a day.
As it turns out, it's neither of those, as Saito would painfully come in to learn, the way he and his "Mistress" were woken up wasn't by anything cool or at least normal… but by the sounds of the door being kicked opened and a spell being literally fired into the room.
"WUH?!" Saito jumped up from the site he had been sleeping on, a piece of hay lazily tossed into the room, and looked around to find himself and the room covered in snow, result from a blue-haired girl with eyeglasses and a staff on her hands, "T-The hell was that for?!"
The blue-haired girl gestured at the bed next to the pile of hay, and they watched as Louise jumped off from her bed as well, her pink head buried in snow, as was most of the room, and her body shaking due to only wearing a thin nightgown, that made Saito blush a little when seeing her so lightly dressed… if it wasn't because she strapped a little dog collar to his neck and tied it up onto her bed leg just to ensure he wouldn't run off again.
"T-T-Tabitha! What the hell!? Couldn't you just shake me awake?!" Oh, so she asked her to come here and wake her up… Saito didn't need to be told this was the first time she's given such a rude awakening.
The blue haired girl, Tabitha, shook her head, "You have a Personal Servant now, stop bothering me." And with those words, she closed the door and walked away, leaving both Master and Familiar in place.
It took the two a moment before turning to each other with a glare… and then turn to look down at the snow covered floor.
Right… last night happened, and now they were like this.
Saito was more frightened than anything, and sure, he's angry as hell… but he knows he's dealing with magicians. You didn't just rush head first against someone who can toss a spell at you from a mile away!
Louise, meanwhile, now that she relaxed and had a good night sleep… began realizing how much bad she had done in the last twelve hours.
She chained a human being and declared him her slave for the rest of his life!
Sure, she didn't directly say the slave part, but she said something that was basically the same! In the only country in the world where that's banned!
They'll have her head in a spike if she doesn't do something about it!
"No, wait, Louise, relax…" The Noble-girl managed to calm herself down, if just a bit. It has only been a couple hours since the incident, and she could still fix this! Sure, she said many belittling things, but that's only because she was angry and she'd never mean any of that now, would she?
"..." Goddammit, she definitely would. But she's not a dumbass, not entirely, and she knows that making enemies with your Familiar is like aiming a pistol at your head at all times. It both makes no sense and there's been cases of Mages being hurt by their own Familiars before the animals were severely punished, or killed, by their own brands due to their disobedience.
In truth, she began with the left foot, aided only by her Familiar's actions, however it was still too early to tell if he'd try to bite her back at some point… or stab her in her sleep…
Point is, she had to find a way to settle the waters around them!
"Hey-"
"Hey-"
While she thought that, Saito was having some similar thoughts to her… but all going in a different direction.
He began wrapping his mind around the idea that a psychopath forcefully kidnapped him from his home because she needed a slave animal, and since Fate loves to mess with Saito, it picked up the smartest human (according to biologists at all) in all the world: A human, and not comfortable with it, it picked him from all the seven billion options available for picking.
Ironically, now that he thought about it, he should consider himself lucky that he got summoned by a child who seems to simply have some anger issues. Kids were easy to please, and if he gave her enough candy, maybe he could get her to both undo this whole ritual and send him home!
Please her for just a bit… though, now that he had a better look at her, she looked quite cute now that she wasn't angry.
… Yep, she must be a witch.
So, in order to gain her good faith he'd have to-... ugh, play along for now.
He has never been in a job like this before… but he has been getting the shit kicked out of himself sometimes when he's failed to meet up some payments before, and he sure as hell has read some dark doujins, most involving female elves, so… if he just toned it down to something not sexual, he should be able to get her pleased, right?
"..."
"..."
The two of them looked at each other, pondering on whether to go first or not. Thankfully, Saito managed to be the one to break out of his stupor.
"Alright, I think we began this whole thing with the left foot." He spoke in a bit more calmed tone, seeing as Louise also looked considerably in a more reasonable state than last night at least, "How about we start with names; I am Saito Hiraga, and you… Master?"
The fact he forced himself to say that last bit did not go unnoticed by Louise who tried to not wince at being reminded of her status.
Louise should be feeling nothing but joy of the (forced) show of respect! And yet… she simply felt the guillotine ready to chop her head.
Still… what a weird name, Saitohiraga… maybe he meant to say Saito of Hiraga? If so, that's an even weirder village name, one she certainly has not heard from around here… maybe he comes from Rub Al Khali? No, no, his skin is fair, most of them have a skin complex more similar to Zerbt's… well, time will tell, she supposes.
"'Lady', use the term 'Lady' when referring to me." Is the first thing that came out of Louise's lips, "And for your information, my name is Louise Francoise Le Blanc de la Valliere, third and youngest daughter of the Valliere state." Louise nodded as she finished her presentation, which made Saito sweatdrop a little.
That-... sure was one hell of a mouthful. Did she say all that whenever she introduced herself to anyone new? In any case, he had the base information of who summoned him… if just by names. But hey, that was better than nothing, he supposed.
"Alright, Lady Valliere." Again, the way he forcefully said it did not escape Louise's field of notice, "I suppose that now it is time for us to chat about our contract… if there's a contract in the first place…" His eyes went down to his tight collar, which made the pinkette let out a sweat of awkwardness.
Last night she was so furious she didn't even notice the stuff she put on him to keep him in place… still, she couldn't yield everything so easy, "Do you promise to not run off the moment I take it off?"
The boy put a hand on his chest, on top of his heart, and raised his free hand… he hoped this gesture was understood as a swear or promise.
Louise looked at him as if he had grown a tail all of a sudden… yep, she now considered him a weirdo. In any case, she got what he was trying to say and pulled the key from a necklace she wore all night long. Approaching Saito, she shoved the item on the keyhole and a CLICK was heard.
Pulling it off him, Louise tossed the collar aside and watched Saito rubbing his neck… damn that thing was tight, she could see some marks being left on his skin.
The girl waited to see if the boy tried anything else, and once she saw he didn't, Louise realized that he did mean his promise of not doing anything dumb again.
A relieved sigh escaped her lips and now the two of them could properly discuss things.
First of all, it was time to address last night's events!
THUD
"Eh?" Saito blinked as he watched Louise suddenly get on her knees and with her head on the ground.
"I'm sorry for declaring you a slave! I'm so sorry! Please don't tell anyone I did that!" She banged her head against the ground once, "I want to keep my head on my shoulders! I did it without thinking, I'm sorry!"
Well, holy shit, Siesta was right, slavery is indeed banned in here! A small grin formed on his lips as he began thinking on how to take advantage of this small cute girl~… wait, no, that sounded wrong.
"Hmm~" Saito tried to not make his joy be too obvious, something he failed at, "Well, as it turns out I do have something I'd like you to do." Louise lifted her head off the ground, showing a visible wound on her forehead, "I need to-... are you fine?"
"Yes. I'm used to this. Speak!"
"Riiight… I need to go home." In the end, Saito decided to just take what he needs to take. The higher he sets the bar on things he wants, the more likely he'll be castrated for trying to surpass his clear limits.
And it worked, Louise got off the ground, dusted off her nightgown, ignored the small bleeding on her forehead, and nodded. "Alright then, that is easy for me to do. Sure, I'll take you to visit your village." And truly, Louise understood the request.
If he has a family, which he probably does, he just vanished without leaving a trace for more than a day now. From all they know, he could be dead or kidnapped, and it'd be normal to want to clear that doubt. Besides, of course, setting up a price for his services. He's her Familiar after all and she needs him by her side at all times.
"... That's the thing, I'm not from a village in the middle of the woods." Louise tilted her head in confusion, "I'm from a country called Japan in another world, the one you pulled me from."
The silence came back, and this time it was less about either of them being uncomfortable as much as it was the two of them letting the words sink in.
Saito waited for any reaction from Louise, denial, or something like that, maybe call him crazy and shrug off his statements before trying again.
Instead, he got a-... worried look?
"... Oh, by Brimir." She put a hand over her eyes, which began being stained by the blood seeping from her forehead… is no one seriously going to even comment on it? "I gave blunt trauma to my Familiar!"
...
"What?" Saito tilted his head at the way Louise seemed to be fearing for her life again. Except she wasn't afraid as before in the sense she'd get executed for practicing slavery, but instead that her servant had probably been a normal human being until her explosion and summon made him crazy.
"Don't worry, I-... Oh, Brimir, medicines for your brain won't be cheap."
Saito tried to get her out of her stupor. "E-Excuse me-"
"And with the debt I have, I'll have to get on my knees to Mother and beg for money… no, she'd kill me if I do that!"
Saito almost felt good about the sincere worry this girl had over him… if not for the fact she was completely worrying over nothing, "L-Lady Valliere-"
"And what will everyone else think!? Not even five days in and I already gave you permanent damage!"
Having had enough, Saito reached for Louise and took a hold of her shoulders, forcing her to look at me, "Louise! I'm fine! I'm mentally fine! You didn't make me retarded or anything! I-... I made it up!"
Maybe he'd come to regret that lie later on, but it's better to be considered a liar than a madman… at least he wouldn't be shunned upon or treated like a literal child, unlike this actual child.
It took a few seconds for Louise to register his words, and when she did, her worried expression turned into an annoyed one, her eyebrow twitching in place.
With strength Saito didn't expect from her, Louise took a hold of his wrists and squished them hard, making the boy let out a pained moan and pull his hands back to look at the girl who seemed ready to choke the life out of him.
Yet, she managed to calm down after taking a deep breath, "Don't-... do that again." Her tone was cold and uncaring, a sudden change from before, "And now I'm reminded that I'm hungry… and cold… pick my clothing and dre-"
She stopped herself as she was about to finish her order.
Sure, a Noble must never dress themselves if there's a Servant to do that for them, and Louise has been dressed by both maids and butlers before…but only by those of her house, approved by her parents, and the butlers being the kind old man type who were simply happy to serve.
This is technically a stranger that seems to be of her age… What if he gets excited and tries to do something more than just dress her?!
There was an old saying of her Mother; "It is fine to act your position, but even a beaten dog will bite if kicked enough times." And with all she's done to him thus far…
"... Pick up my clothing and wait for me outside my room." That seemed like the safest choice.
Saito looked around, found her closet, and a bit against his will, put himself to work, walking to it and looking in the drawers. As he did so, he pondered on why the sudden change of orders… not like he minded the change, he really didn't want to dress a girl he barely knew… or any at all… besides, if this were back home, he'd be arrested for doing that to someone so much younger than him!
If only he knew her age, he wouldn't think that last bit.
More importantly, he had to put to think on how to ask her to… undo the summoning or reverse it somehow to get him back home… he could come up with an excuse as to why not give the name of his "village", but for now, he'd have to comply with her orders.
"..." A small blush formed on Saito's face as he looked into a drawer and pulled something out, "Uh… these?" It was a piece of lingerie that-... was too explicit for Louise.
"..." Louise, soon enough, blushed again… that was for in case she found a "school love"! No one was supposed to see it!
But again… no one had any reason to look inside of her drawers for anything, it was all of her and no one would be judged by it… except now she had someone who would be looking into her drawers… and judging every single item she possesses.
Still, Louise couldn't tell him to look in the next drawer and simply leave him thinking she's a slut keeping that for special occasions! "Y-Yes, of course, I-... I am a female of fine tastes."
"..." Saito didn't say anything as he handed Louise the really luxurious looking lingerie.
Sighing, with some relief, she kept looking as Saito walked back to the closet to look for her socks. Thankfully, aside from this sexy piece of underwear, she was sure she kept nothing else of value in those drawers.
"... Uh-..." He pulled out a set of panties that-... looked too big to be of Louise, "Did someone misplace-"
"I'll look for the clothing myself! You just wait outside!" Her face as red as a tomato, Louise snatched the panties off of Saito's hand and pushed him to her door, proceeded to kick said door opened, push her Familiar out and then close the door behind him… since it was unhinged now from the force used to open it, the door was left hanging in place and could be pushed or pulled open with minimum force now.
Saito was trying to understand what happened before realizing the worst, "My Master's a goddamn pervert."
Meanwhile, inside, Louise looked at the pair of panties that did NOT belong to her… and gave them a quick sniff. "Haa~" Yep, they still smell of Cattleya~
… Well, time to look for an excuse as to why she had them, and never let him open her closet ever again.
With Louise wearing her uniform (and a bandage wrapped around her forehead), she and the boy set out through the tower they found themselves in, which thankfully was much less confusing to navigate than the Water Tower, with sets of staircases at the end of each hallway.
They left the tower and… Saito had to admit, the courtyard of the Academy of Magic looked pretty damn pretty, more than he gave it credit for last night.
The grass was green and filled with life, there was not a single cloud in the sky, and the air definitely smelled pure, nothing like the contaminated thing one breathed in a widely filled modern city.
He even had to admit he wouldn't mind staring at it for a bit longer… if not for the fact Louise had seen this scenario a hundred times and already gave a fuck about it by now, so he had to follow her around towards a tower in the middle of the five large towers that made up the Academy.
Thinking about it, the middle tower didn't look as much like a tower as it looked like an auditorium… one with three stories.
Going to it, Saito could see various students floating their way towards the same place he and Louise were heading, and as they arrived to what looked like a giant set of double doors, they pulled out their wands and aimed it at them, which made a colorless aura to leave the wand and head to the set of double doors, made something groan in them… and then they'd open the enough time for the student in question to walk in before closing again.
Doors sealed with magic!
Now that the fear of enslavement passed, Saito could let his mind wander elsewhere as he thought of the many applications magic could have in the lives of these people.
He didn't get all the context of this world from Siesta, but he got enough to know that magic had more uses than simple fights or war, that apparently this whole place got built with nothing but magic!
Being from a mundane world, he found himself imagining the way magic could be used to solve problems his world used technology to solve. As far as he knows, maybe they even invented flying chariots or something! Maybe even developed a spell to run as fast as sound!
Letting his excitement get the best out of him, a big dumb smile formed on his face as they approached the giant set of doors that dwarved them by a lot.
Now it was time for Louise to open the magic doors and let them in!
Saito watched as Louise took some steps back for some reason… and then rushed in while leaning her head forward.
THONK
"?!" Saito visibly winced as he watched the girl's tackle forced the doors open a tiny bit, and as he did so, he heard some chuckling coming from inside, "H-Hey! What are you doing…?!"
Louise, with a new bleeding coming from her forehead, took a deep breath as she began moving back again, "Isn't it obvious…? I'm getting us in…!" And she rushed forth again.
THONK
The chuckling coming from the other side became laughter quite quickly as the second tackle made the double doors give in a little more, and the blood seeping out of Louise's head began looking… considerably more serious.
"Alright… one more… one more time… come on, Louise…!" Like a bull ready to murder an idiot holding a red cape, the pink haired girl took several steps back and then charged in at full force again!
Only for Saito to get in the way, "Hey, hold on, this isn't-!" Sadly for him, Louise wasn't able to see him coming and ended up crashing onto his gut instead, "Guh!" It felt as if a rottweiler had hit him square on after charging at full speed… was her skull made out of metal or why does it hit so strong!?
"Hmm?" Of course, the difference of what her head impacted against felt… considerably different than a set of metal doors, and looking up, she noticed… her Familiar's near dead look. "A-Ah!" She pulled back, and Saito fell to the ground while in fetal position, "F-Familiar, don't die!"
Two minutes later, Saito got up on his feet and Louise had replaced the bandages on her forehead… again… how many did she carry and how often did she nearly bleed herself to death on a daily basis?
"Okay… can you explain why you were trying to-... crack your head open?" Sure, he was back on his feet, but damn, that headbutt would cause him a bruise!
"Well, I wanted to get us into the Dining Hall of course." She declared as a matter of fact, refusing to recognize the problem of her method.
"... And why don't you use magic like the ones before us?" His question caused Louise to roll her eyes and look away with-... an embarrassed look? "... Lady Valliere?"
"Uh…" She pretended to yawn, "I'm still waking up, so my magic is no good right now, that's all." Saito did not buy her excuse for a second.
But he himself deduced that she still must be tired. Siesta did mention that Louise had somehow wasted all her "willpower", which he assumed was her Mana, when summoning him somehow.
While everyone else completed the summon with no issues, Louise was the only one who nearly killed herself doing it, and he didn't need to guess why, she pulled someone from another world!
Maybe that's still affecting her but she refuses to show weakness?
Saito rubbed his cheek, "Well… why don't we just-... go in the way the servants go in?" the boy flinched at the sudden glare tossed his way. Right, they couldn't do that, Nobles must have some pride or something… but then… how to get in?
Preferably without a girl dying of blood loss today.
"..." A little too casually, he walked up to the giant set of doors and knocked on them.
"Who's there?~" A playful voice came from the other side, from someone who was clearly also a student.
"My name is Saito and I'm-... uh-... Lady Valliere's Familiar… I was wondering if you could open the door for us, please?"
Louise gawked at the decision of her Familiar before face-palming. Great, now he would get laughed at on his face and then they'd laugh even harder at them!
They'd become the protagonists of a Novel where the only point of reading it is to watch the MC get beaten down by everyone in it!
"Oh, sure thing!" The set of magic doors began opening in the most casual way possible, and Saito could see a chubby Noble boy with a smirk having helped them with the doors, all while sitting on one of the many tables of this-... huge hall.
Normally, Malicorne, the chubby student and classmate of Louise, wouldn't have bothered helping out a Commoner, much less Louise, but he figured the reaction his classmate would have would be epic. And he wasn't wrong!
Looking at her wide opened mouth and huge disbelief in her eyes was more than enough proof that doing this was worthy. In fact, the expression on Louise's face made the laughter ring even harder than it would have if they had let her out.
"Ah-... ah-... eh-... whu?" Saito couldn't really describe Louise's reaction as anything other than a broken disc struggling to function again, and of course he noticed the obvious bullying… but after suffering it for a whole year, this really felt like a child's attempt at getting to him, so he didn't mind it much.
"Let's go, Lady Valliere." Saito gently pulled the still broken girl inside. This looks like it'll be a nice and warm day so far.
AN: We all know how this day will go afterwards~
Also, I wanted to write up to the duel taking place (the challenge part at least), but the chapter would become even longer than the summoning chapter, and given my home is not precisely quiet around, it'd take me longer to finish it and I wanted to give you all something to at least get a small smile out of. :3
Now let's answer reviews~!
Guest (Chapter 4): I don't know who you are, but I'll find out, I'll get to the place you live... and bow in respect. You are one lad of culture. (*Bows*)
Guest (Chapter 5): Really? The intention was to make it a bit more on the light tone, but hey, I am actually happy I managed to give that feeling, guess I underestimated myself a bit xd. And no, I don't think it's canon, Guiche may be a manwhore, but for all he says and does, we never really see anything other than him cuddling Katie or holding Mon's hand (I think) so, as you said, it's me diverging from canon a little. This fic is supposed to take FoZ to another route, a slightly more... "realistic" one? Point is, Nobles. Count Mott in canon is an example of what a Noble would be in the world of FoZ, and Guiche being a playboy, I sincerely doubt that in a more realistic take, he'd be that much better than him. Hope my answer cleared your doubt. :)
And that's all from my part, thanks to you all for reading and for reviewing, it motivates me to keep writing up these stories.
Have all a wonderful day~!
Shadic out.
