The duo left the field, and the carnage behind them.
There were still questions that lingered in the air. Things Aliza wanted to know, wanted to understand. Especially after their 'joke' session.
The creatures, the grey things that looked like children, resembled her. It wasn't something that had gone unnoticed by the girl. The resemblance was blatantly uncanny. That, combined with Chara admitting that she didn't know if she was even 'real' or one of them, suggested however, that her friend lacked an answer. So, she wasn't going to press.
It seemed she 'came back' when she died, exactly as the non-human had said. Was there a limit to that? Did it stop working eventually?
She tried to imagine that, and her mind briefly painted it as a positive thing. Being 'immortal' in a sense. However, she then recalled that her own death, had led to it. She didn't know how she had died, but it led Chara to drowning herself. Just to try again, and keep her safe.
It made her feel warm, and cold. Happy, and guilty, and sad. Prompting her to squeeze the other girls hand a little tighter for that moment.
Sure, there were answers she didn't have. Other things she wanted to know. However, she knew that asking them was only going to cause more distress and pain. And for now at least, she wouldn't. She didn't want Chara to hurt. And, perhaps she'd get the answer one day. Perhaps she wouldn't. As long as her new friend was okay, that was alright with her.
They managed to escape the rain, easily enough. As it didn't last, or linger beyond the room. And the space beyond that, free of it, was a path that ran alongside the edge of a cliff, overlooking a deep darkness below. The two glancing over briefly, to find that the drop simply went on forever.
"Yeah...falling would be a bad idea." Chara said, feeling a familiar sensation. "I...let's avoid doing that okay?"
"Mhm." Aliza quietly agreed, as they backed away.
For whatever reason, Charas mind filled with a sense of dread overlooking the cliff. She felt like...there was only pain, and suffering if they fell into the abyssal dark below. Like...it would be an end, to everything. She didn't understand it, but she worked to purge it from her mind.
They continued down the road. It was a beautiful path, overgrown with grass, and vines that glowed the soft blue hue. Hover, it was also an eerily silent place.
Save for the sound of rain, from behind them, it was quiet. And the further they got, the more even that was fading. Their breathing, the steps they made, being the only thing left, as they stepped across patches of smaller blue grass. Passing blue flowers.
Aliza was comfortable with this. But Chara was not. It was simply too quiet. To hard to ignore the thoughts, she needed a distraction. Something, anything to break the silence.
"Hey." Chara glanced back. "Have I told you about my family?"
"The...ones who...tortured you?" Aliza asked.
"N-no, no, the uhm...that was, those were humans." Chara explained. "I mean, my family, here."
"Not really. You...have mentioned them. Briefly." Aliza recalled, thinking. "You brought up...your brother...Asriel, right?"
"You remembered." Chara noted.
"I did. I do try to." Aliza assured. "That's...what friends do, right?"
"Yeah, that's fair." Chara nodded, before adding. "And uhm, right, okay, so...you know about Asriel. He's...a bit like you." her counterpart raised a brow. "C'mon, partner, you know I'm calling you a dork by this point, right?"
"You sure...that you aren't the dork, partner?" Aliza asked, a memory of Frisk entering her mind. "You do like...holding my hand a lot. After all."
The other girl got beat red again, pulling her hand away. "H-hey...it's, ya know...reassuring. Is all." The purple-eyed girl tugged on her jacket, covering her red cheeks. "A-and we talked about...flirting."
"Was it a good one?" Aliza asked. "You're blushing...that, means it was good...right?"
"It's...I-I dunno. Who told you that?" Chara asked, annoyed.
"Frisk." Aliza replied. "She said it to me once...but I don't get it." She admitted. "Holding hands...is nice sometimes. Especially with someone you like. Like you. Like you said it's reassuring."
"Y-yeah." Chara glanced away. "Well, it's like, teen, and adult stuff, so-"
"So, I can only flirt with you...when we're older?" Aliza asked, wearing her usual smile.
Chara didn't fully grasp why she felt so poorly composed, at something so silly to her. It wasn't like she was some dumb teenager, yet. Almost...but not yet.
Heheh. Poor girl. That my dear child, is the same reason the angel lady from that show, seems 'nice' to you. But, you'll figure that out more when you're older.
"Anyways!" Chara said loudly, trying to get away from the flirt. "As I was sayin, before you so...rudely flirted with me-"
"Was it rude?" Aliza asked, frowning. "I-I'm sorry. I was, w-well, I figured-"
"No, it's just-" The purple-eyed girl let out a huff. "it's fine. Just...I dunno, warn me or something. A-and, let's move on, please." She felt confused, and annoyed with herself. "What...was I talking about?"
"You were...talking about family?" Aliza half-asked. "And uhm...sorry again."
"It's...it's fine. Dork." Chara pouted some. "But, uhm...my family. So, we were...uhm, Asriel, right?"
"Yeah." Aliza nodded.
"So, well, I guess...maybe you two aren't...the same, exactly." Chara reasoned, as they wandered by an echo flower. "He's my brother, for one. My best friend. But like...he's literally family, so, please don't be like...jealous of that, or anything?"
Aliza didn't feel jealous, if anything she had a vague understanding of what her friend meant. Well, mostly. She had siblings, though, she'd never met them. But, from what she'd heard, they were often each others best friends.
She imagined that was a lot of responsibility to be a best friend. And quite a step up from her present role, which she knew very little about as it was. In her mind, she had a lot to do, before even considering such a lofty position.
"No, no, it's okay." She assured. "And, he's your brother. So, I mean, why would I be...jealous, of him?"
"I-I dunno. I don't know why I said that." Chara hummed, before shaking her head. "Anyways, he's a dork. A bit of a cry-baby. But...he's great."
"A cry-baby?" Aliza asked. "Why...do you say that?"
"Well, I guess...not all the time." Chara pondered, as they strolled. "He can be...a bit of a bully sometimes, or try to be. But, that's cuz, he is worried he doesn't, ya know, add up. Like, that he won't be as strong as Mom, or Dad." She scoffed. "Even if he's fine being Azzy...he wants to be...I dunno, more?"
Her counterpart ran her fingers across the ends of her scarf. "Sounds...stressful."
"I mean, yeah." The girl in the jacket shrugged. "I...well, I teased him about it, now and then, I think." She hummed. "But, like, that's just kidding around."
"Did...he know that?" Aliza asked her.
"Of course." Chara replied, before hesitating. "I mean...I hope so. I didn't mean it...as like, to be mean. Just..." She wondered if he knew she was joking now, or if he'd thought she was serious. "Well uhm...I'll let him know later, when we find him. Just to be sure, okay?"
"I bet he'd like that." Aliza reasoned. "So, who're your...mom and dad?"
The group had come to a part where the path turned inward more. Audible noise finally coming from ahead. In this case, they were coming near a marshy section. With lowland, and water throughout it. A waterfall pouring down, from somewhere above.
"I thought...I mentioned Toriel?" Chara asked, remembering the faintest echo of...talking to someone about her.
For whatever reason, her mind only came up with a word, not an image. Flower. She didn't understand, and trying to recall it led to a feeling, a sound like scratching in her mind. Ending as her counterpart spoke.
"Did you?" Aliza apologized. "I don't...remember, if you did. I-I know I try to remember, but...uhm."
"Hey now, chill." Chara requested. "You're fine. I mean...okay, so...Toriels my mom. She's super tough, smart, and funny." She explained, as they passed by an echo flower. "Like, sure, Dads the toughest, and like, everyone likes him. But Mom's super cool."
"You said...she's funny?" Aliza inquired. "Does she tell jokes, or-?"
"She's not a comedian, if that's what you mean." Chara snickered. "But uhm, so...well, we tell the same kinds of jokes. Actually...a lot of my humor...well, some of it was me. But, a lot of it I got from her." She explained, glancing around briefly. "Like, here...what do swamp creatures eat for dessert?"
Aliza stared blankly for a moment. "Uhm...hmm...I dunno."
"Marsh-mellows." Chara said, winking, as the other girl let out a brief chuckle. "Or, uhm...hang on, I have something on my foot."
"Oh?" Aliza glanced down, stopping.
"No worries. It's just a boot." Chara said, smiling.
"You're...silly." Aliza said, before responding with. "Knock knock."
"Who's there?" The purple-eyed girl asked, having stopped.
"Tank." The orange-eyed girl began to rock on her feet.
"Tank who?" Chara asked.
"You're welcome!" Aliza replied, wearing the proudest expression.
Chara laughed some. "You're such a dork."
"Thanks...so, she makes uhm, jokes like that?" Aliza asked her.
"Huh?" Chara recalled what they were discussing. "O-oh, yeah, she does. She's...really funny."
There are many beings who would find this style of comedy to be, well, generally unlikable. And, would as such, take this comment as a warning. Avoiding the barrage of bad humor at all costs. But, here we are anyways.
"Is she nice?" Aliza inquired.
"I mean, duh." Chara smirked, looking a little smug. "She's super nice. Like, carry you on her back, if you're tired. Read you stories when you're sick. Or, just play games with you nice." She frowned some. "She's really cool. So..." She suddenly felt...incredibly sad. "yeah."
"What about your dad then?" The other girl asked.
"That's Asgore. He...well he seems really scary, but he's not." The purple-eyed child paced. "He likes meeting new people, and seeing people happy. He uh...says you know you're doing your job right, when everyone is smiling." She managed a small smile. "But, I think, he just likes talking to people. Listening to them. He's...well, he's a big goober."
The orange-eyed girl smiled sadly. "They sound really...really great."
"Aliza...don't frown. You're gonna meet them too." Chara assured her. "Eventually, right?"
"That'd be...nice. Before I-" Aliza trailed, before replying. "R-right, sounds good."
There was something more she'd wanted to say, but she elected not to. It would have just led to more sad feelings in her chest, and she didn't want that. So she pretended it wasn't there, the final words to that sentence. The other girl noticed her expression, however she didn't pry. Electing to respect the privacy of her friend.
The pair beginning to walk again, failing to notice something. In the marsh, among the taller grass, a small light shined. A camera presently there clicking on, as they walked by. Turning, following their movements, unseen by them.
Oh, and before I forget...I said I'd share how much XP she got. But, it'll be easier to just show her LV, and stats, I think.
Chara Dreemurr
- Base Stats -
HP = 38 ATK = 9 DEF = 2
LV = 10
And that new shiny weapon of hers.
Mychals Switchblade A blue switchblade, with the name Mychal carved on the side.
ATK - 12 Effect - Gains second attack, which deals half damage.
If we tally up the equipment...the stats become
HP = 38 ATK = 21 DEF = 10
Golly. I feel so informed. Don't you?
