Izuku fell forward onto the soft, cotton fabric that made up his blue comforter. Throwing himself on the covered mattress, the full sized bed bounced with the weight of him as he sagged in it. His tired body settled nicely into its cozy depth. With a pleasing sigh, Izuku closed his eyes and enjoyed the quiet that filled his room.
Opening evergreen orbs to a blank, dimly lit ceiling, he shifted to lay on his side. Back facing away from the wall his bed rested against. The only light in the room coming from the setting sun. Rays of darkening sunlight shone through a window clear of any shutters or curtains. This room in particular had a view better than all other rooms on the same level, being on the second floor came with its perks afterall. The sight overlooked a lush, fenced off lot that appeared carefully maintained by its owners. Large brick walls separated the well kept clearing from a group of houses traveling down their shared street.
In order to have such quality scenery, however, the room sacrificed space to better fit the floor plans initially intended for the house. A tall, thin dresser made of light colored wood stretched from ceiling to floor was in a corner next to closet doors. A small desk fitted with a decent sized monitor and keyboard for Izukus internet needs had been placed in another corner. It paralleled the full mattress in a tetris kind of way as it rested against the same wall. All these objects made up the rest of the furniture which allowed for an arrangement that didn't overwhelm his tiny room.
Grabbing one of the two white pillows adorning his place of rest, Izuku brought the fluffy mass to his chest and hugged it close. Reaching down into his pants left pocket he pulled out his phone. Its screen lit up, light reflecting off his lime colored eyes as he unlocked the device. Tapping the cold screen with slender fingers, Izuku saw two new messages in his inbox. Something akin to excitement had manifested seeing the text notifications. He observed the sender's name and made no effort to avoid the heat welling up in his face. Deciding to let the sleek phone drop from his hand onto the sheets, Izuku wrapped his arms tight around the pillow.
Izuku gave in to an abrupt urge and nuzzled his face in the pale cushion held between his arms. A few moments of silence went by before gleaming orbs emerald in color peaked at the illuminated device. A mixture of feelings fought for dominance inside him simultaneously.
Involuntarily, a collection of today's events resurfaced in the males thoughts. He made an effort not to bury his face again. The recollection rose within him emotions that bordered the line of madness. Denial, astonishment, confusion, exhilaration, fear. All swarmed inside him like a torrential storm raging on a city, unrelenting and ever changing. Letting his head fall back on the bed with ease, Izuku let the memories flood his tired mind with a hesitant willingness.
EARLIER THAT AFTERNOON
After spilling the thoughts troubling him, Izuku was hoping to be done with the current situation as quickly as possible. Anger at himself and the other male drove him to do such a thing. The only thing concerning him was getting as far away from here as his athletic legs could take him.
The other teen talked away after izukus short outburst and his need to withdraw had died down. Although, Izuku had very little reaction to it all. For he felt nothing. The feeling of desperate escape had been replaced with a cold numbness. The normally empathetic teen couldn't even bring himself to care for the others' pain as he fell, clutching his abdomen in the same spot the greenette struck him seconds prior. Izuku felt no remorse. He was numb to it.
The swimmer thought back to earlier, he never felt more ashamed of himself than when he stood on that roof. Seeing a furious Bakugo had scared him a bit and still did, but what the blonde said was even more brutal. Yet, he felt it was true. Izuku wasn't thinking about anyone but himself on the rooftop. Allowing himself to mindlessly act on selfish pleasures. Not thinking about his companion and the consequences that could rain down on them had they been caught.
Memories came crashing down then, flooding his mind with images of his younger self. This version of himself was also selfish. Acting in a way that hurt the smaller version of a certain spiky haired boy. So much hurt in fact to push the fire eyed Bakugo of the past into a rage, lashing out at the green eyed youngster. The young blonde fighter chewed his ass out for the suffering he inflicted. Izuku knew he deserved it. His selfishness is what created the scar on their friendship afterall. In his eyes, Izuku severed what relationship they had all those years ago. The idea of redemption, the notion of being a better friend to Bakugo seemed further out of reach. Impossible even. He always dreamt of doing better. Lying awake at night, imagining an Izuku that had the courage to try and make things right. Of redeeming the quality of himself that hurt his most cherished person.
'I didn't care.' He thought. 'I didn't think to care back then and didn't today, what a joke…."'
Only thing left for him now was a sickening hollowness as he despaired over his repeated actions.
"Please, 'zuku? May I tell you?" he heard the larger male ask.
Izuku immediately felt a spark of curiosity. It was a shock to say the least, hearing the other apologize to him over and over. For a chance at something he did not know.
Wondering what could possibly be on the other's mind so bad, forest green irises looked up at the blonde. The head belonging to them nodded. He wasn't in a position to resist his larger classmate any longer. Izuku suddenly made a decision. This would be the last time he would disappoint the man he admired. Seeing those scarlet eyes look at him with contempt any more would send him spiraling straight into madness.
Green eyes watched as the teen before them leaned away. A fleeting feeling rose in him when the blonde lifted a hand to wipe something from his cheek. The slow trailing fingers left a scorching feeling in their wake. Izuku remained still at the sensation and saw the same male pocket both hands before aiming a crooked smile at him.
"The truth is.." the athlete started to say. Izuku patiently waited as the boy brushed a hand through wild hair while looking away at some distant thing. A jolt of surprise struck the freckled teens psyche at what he saw adorn the features of his roadside companion.
Bakugo, the senior class star baseball player at their esteemed school, was blushing. Izuku was sure of it. He noticed a faint redness spreading across the bridge of his nose and the same light dusting reached the man's flawlessly chiseled cheeks. Aiming his attention on the bigger males form, he listened to what the other had to say with a twinge more focus than before.
"Im, uh.." Red eyes were now glued to his twin green ones. Anticipation grew within him, he almost spoke on it when the same scarlet orbs glazed over with some fierce emotion. He didn't have time to analyze the sight, however, when his low voice softly spoke. "I'm kind of in love with you."
A silence engulfed the space between them. Echoes of a bustling city being the only sound permeating the area. Neither of the males moved an inch as the two gazed at one another.
The silence stretched on as the younger of the two observed the other for an ounce of falsity. Any twitch of mockery. Waiting for any semblance of a lie, the freckled student could only gawk when none came. Not a hint of deception materialized on the others' features, he just patiently remained where he stood.
"Wha…what?" The darker haired male quietly stuttered out. Quickly thinking how amazed he is at the ability to form words so soon after that bombshell of an info drop. The young swimmer looked forward in disbelief, not fully believing what he just heard.
Probably amused at the expression Izuku was giving, Bakugo chuckled lightly. "I'm in love with you, nerd."
Izuku heard it for sure this time. That rumbling tone was definitely Bakugos. He was lucid, right? He dug his thumb nail into his palm and from the sharp pain, Izuku immediately knew he wasn't in some sleep induced illusion. The same palm began to perspire along with the other as Izuku felt his heart begin to pound simultaneously. Heat rushed to his ears, neck and face and something that was once coiled in the pit of his belly seemed to explode. Bringing with it a surge of some sensation he didn't recognize. The feeling rushed through his veins giving him the sensation of weightlessness. He felt lighter. As if he could swim a thousand meets and not break a sweat. He resisted the urge to cover his face, suddenly feeling overwhelmed by the emotional onslaught.
Words remained forgotten to the greenette. He stood there, motionless. Holding the blonde's gaze as he watched the others expression change into one of concern. "Izuku?" asked the male. It dawned on the greenette he must have looked crazy. Eyes wide, lips slightly parted in unbelievable awe, Izuku imagined steam shooting from his ears because of how hot he felt. He tried coming to his senses but the unexpected reveal wouldn't stop replaying in his mind over and over. His thoughts were an unstoppable repetition of words so electrifying, he couldn't even think to form words of his own.
That is until a large, hotter than expected, hand rested on his shoulder and shook him gently. "Izuku? Hey, you with me? Are you alright?" asked the blonde. A look of genuine worry masking his smooth features.
Izuku, mindful of the other athletes' close proximity, reined in the torrent of feelings raging in him as best he could before replying with a very soft spoken, "yea." He finally thought it was too much for him, looking into crimson irises so alight with concern and something more tender. For him.
"I-I-Im fine," he finally said. "I-I, uh, uhm.." Clearing his throat of the stutter tormenting him, Izuku was nervously looking at the ground when he spoke. "I'm sorry, I don't..I don't really know what to say, uhm.."
"It's okay," Bakugo chimed in. "You don't have to say anything, 'zuku. I just needed you to know." He smiled down at the boy with speckled cheeks.
Half expecting some form of impatient insult from his lean senior classmate, Izuku was pleasantly surprised at the tone of composure in the males words. Feeling spurred on he thought to ask something of the blonde. "So, back on the roof.." He motioned his, somewhat shaking, hand in the direction of their school. "What was that?" No longer in shambles, Izuku had a much clearer view of the world. However, the notion of the others feelings didn't quite explain the way he was back there. The way he was furious with Izuku.
A look of shame formed on the face of the ashen haired teen. "Yea," he said, shifting from one foot to the other. "Honestly, I didn't like seeing you with Hitoshi. It pissed me off a shit ton. I claimed it was because of the pot but I just used that as a cover. The fact is, I couldn't stand the sight of you two together."
Crimson eyes looked at a pair of emerald green. "I promise, none of that shit was your fault."
They were laced with sadness so adamant Izuku had to bite his tongue, keeping himself from reaching out and comforting the other. The name of his classmate being brought up managed to intrigue the swimmer. "Shin?" He asked. Bakugo nodded in response, his lips curling downward and brow furrowing in guilt. Izuku was confused for the better part of a minute before the meaning of the larger males words hit him like a freight train collision.
"So you're telling me," he went to ask. "You really mean to tell me that you, Katsuki Bakugo, got jealous?" The realization was so stunning and wonderful the green haired boy couldn't suppress the smile starting to spread on his freckled features. 'Of shinso?!' he added mentally.
Bakugo shot the smaller teen a much tamer look of annoyance. Then his expression transformed into one of amusement. "Hey. In my defense, I wouldn't be here if someone could refrain from rated R levels of PDA." The blonde teased, silently enjoying the mortified shock on the teen with dark curls.
"You saw that?!" Izuku covered his flaming face, hoping somewhere in the cosmos a God would grant him the power of invisibility. "No way…That whole time you...Why didn't you say anything?!" The younger male voiced, groaning out his embarrassment. All the while walking around the area in panicked circles as if he could escape the knowledge.
"No point in that if you think about it," Bakugo said casually.
"Oh my fucking god! I could diiiie!"
Bakugo never looked away from the pacing swimmer, finding much pleasure in the boy's bashful behavior. Nevertheless, his amused smirk slowly faded away and in its place a pursed line. A forlorn feeling now creeping into his senses.
"Hey, 'zuku?"
The owner of that name halted his nervous parading. Looking to find the other walking up to him, Izuku let his hands fall to his sides and found himself unable to move an inch. The way the older athlete called him, how he confidently moved with a blazing set of eyes aimed in his direction sent sparks up the greenettes spine. "Uh, y-yes?" Mentally cursing his stutter, the youngest of the two waited with bated breath for Bakugo to continue.
The man took his last step, barely a foot from Izuku now, before a look of unbridled remorse took over Bakugos chiseled features.
"I got angry and hurt you again, just like before.." His words trailed off. Izuku felt his heart clench, fully understanding what the male meant.
"I wanted to fix things between us sooner. Many times. It was hard…for me. I, uh, was afraid," Izuku watched the elder teen struggle to speak. Listening with a silent focus as he continued, "I was afraid I'd make things worse. I was afraid you would hate me for this. I thought if you ever found out…you'd hate me a-and I would lose you forever. And after everything you went through..I..I wanted to be there for you, to be a better friend but I-"
Izuku felt something well up inside him at seeing the normally stoic athlete speak timidly. The sight that befell his jade like orbs next was an even greater shock. Scarlet eyes began to water and redden, the hands at his sides balled up in fists so tight they began to shake.
Izuku watched and allowed Bakugo to lift a hand up, stepping closer to the greenette he placed it gently on the teens curly mane. Bringing their foreheads together the blonde closed his eyes before speaking, "I'm so sorry. I-I wasn't strong enough to come back to you…I'm sorry..I'm so sorry 'zuku.." Seeing the ever so slight tremble of the teens clenched lips sent Izuku over the edge.
He sprang forward, ducking under the larger males crestfallen face to bear hug him. His slender arms snaked around Bakugos neck, cupping the back of his ashen haired head with one hand. A small gasp escaped the larger male at the sudden action. Izuku made no sign acknowledging the sound, focused only on comforting the one person who used to be dearest to him.
'Like that's changed,' surfaced the thought from the depths of his mind.
Ignoring the thought, Izuku felt muscled arms slide around his waist in a way that made his body tremble. He forced himself to shelve away the feeling it gave him, opting to stroke blonde strands in hopes of soothing the larger athlete.
"I could never hate you, Kacchan."
Izuku felt tears well up in his own eyes at the admission. Bakugo could never fully understand the significance of his own words. There was a lot the male had done to him but there was never a moment where he hated the man with scorching eyes. Bakugo was stubborn, impulsive, crude and cold at times but he never hated him for it. In fact, a part of him secretly wished for a piece of that freedom. To openly defy what all others expect from you, to speak without fear and to live without holding yourself back. That was Bakugo. Izuku welcomed that part of him completely.
Pulling back, he gave Bakugo some space before smiling at him.
"Besides," he spoke lightheartedly. "I gave you a little payback earlier so call us even." He tapped Bakugos muscled abdomen where his punch landed. Earning a small hisss of pain from their classes sports star.
"Easy slugger, you made your point!" Bakugo said feigning hurt as he clutched his belly. "I yield, I yield!"
Izuku laughed, an uncontrollable amount of happiness coursed through him suddenly. He was clear headed now that he came to his senses. His giggling died down and he took in the amused form of his ashen haired companion before looking around. "Crap!" He yelled in panic as he dug a phone out his pocket. Seeing the time on the device's lit screen made the teen groan in frustration. "Well this sucks." He said to no one in particular.
Bakugo raised an eyebrow. Curiosity gripped him as he asked, "What's wrong? Something happen?"
Green orbs looked at him, a looming look of worry on his face. "Heh, I basically missed all of calculus. Not that I wanted to sit through that torture but..yea." He held up the phone showing Bakugo the time on the device.
Shrugging his shoulders, Bakugo gave the boy a reassuring glance. "No point worrying about it now," he mused.
"Should we go back?" Asked the curly haired teen.
A grin of wolfish delight nearly split Bakugos face as he gave Izuku a wicked look. "I have a better idea."
The two now sat in Bakugos sleek vehicle. Izuku watched the city go by in a blur through the windows with hands in his lap, nervously fiddling with his nails at the situation he let himself be dragged into. They decided to skip the remainder of school that day to go somewhere unknown to the greenette. His companion never told him where he would be taken but the athlete's request was too enthusiastic to deny.
Izuku stared out the window, observing the outside world as the larger teen drove. He turned a bit to steal a glance of the man in charge of travel. Bakugo wore a fitted white button down shirt, its furled up sleeves covering his outstretched form. The athletic captain chose to remove his uniform jacket when they decided to skip the rest of the day. Intrigued eyes trailed over the males muscled arms and saw they flexed with every twitch of the steering wheel. He sat in a laid back fashion, one arm up and the other resting on the window rim. Green irises tracked up to a defined jawline and sun kissed features with no trace of a blemish. The sight gave Izuku another feeling in the pit of his stomach, like electricity flickering around in a container. Its intensity sent chills up his arms as he looked at the man who claimed to love him.
The green eyed passenger turned his sights away from the driver as the thought of the confession brought a scorching feeling to his speckled cheeks.
At the same time, twins of dark crimson stole a glance of their own.
It was hard to believe. Izuku never expected that to be the athletes secret. Its revelation bewildered the dark haired teen in the short time they've been together. The idea of it also causing his outburst on the roof of their school baffled the dark haired teen.
Also, learning the oldest of the passengers had seen Izukus prior actions atop UA, came as a shock to him. One he doubts he'll ever forget.
However, it hardly compared to knowing why the male had lashed out.
From jealousy. Bakugos. The information was jarring to the freckled swimmer. Remembering such knowledge has yet to fail in sending a flare of heat within his body. So hot, he couldn't think properly.
Scenes of the male on that roof resurfaced in his mind. Scenes of the driver yelling, flushed with anger atop the towering building. The ferocity behind those scarlet eyes as they looked at him. Those smoldering eyes centered on him. The teen speculated right then. How could it be, someone as good looking and talented as Bakugo, the most sought after creature in all of the prefectures fell in love with him.
'Fell….for me.'
The plainest individuals known in all of Shizuoka in his own twisted opinion. 'Probably all of japan,' he thought to himself. Unforgiving to his own basic features. Izuku felt he was no fool. He, along with half the school, witnessed the rising baseball star face an unthinkable amount of public confessions. Many of their female classmates openly stating their romantic wishes upon the blonde. The absurdity of it all remains planted in the mind of the dark haired athlete. For it's been a long time since their last reunion, he figures it safe to say there's been a numerous accumulation over the years.
Dark haired curls were ruffled as Izuku pondered his sightings, of confessions distributed to the blonde. Of sightings Izuku's own pink haired friend would whisper to him on a few occasions. So many it reached the streets of their neighborhoods and other public centers. That's what Izukus was told through the grapevine that was their community. Enough to prove Bakugo shared the same experience Izuku was having right now. He tried ignoring the circumstances but found it hard to.
Sounds fainter than a whisper were heard as the brakes brought the classic vehicle to a stop. The engine died when the current driver twisted the keys free of the car port.
"We're here."
Hearing the words, Izuku snapped out of his restless daze. Seeing they were parked on the side of some road, the greenette made his way out of the car. Izuku walked towards the edge of the pavement. He guessed they were somewhere deep in the coastal area, other than that detail Izuku didn't recognize any of his surroundings. He could only see water. As far and wide as the never ending view would let it. The sea was truly endless to the dark haired male. It was an amazing wonder to him, seeing such a striking place. The air was cooling and all around the pair flowed soft, chilled wisps of it. Its flow felt endless. To the freckled individual at least. He looked upon the open space, and never ending bushels of greenery with unfiltered joy.
"You ready?"
Turning at the low pitched voice he was barely given time to respond before an object was tossed at him. From high on up he caught it in his hands and curiosity gripped him. "For what?" He asked, wondering why he clutched the keys.
Bakugo didn't say a thing as he walked over to Izuku's empty seat. Their eyes met as the blonde patted the car's polished hood. "Go easy on her 'kay?" Smirking, he threw his weight in Izuku's vacant spot. The male with the keys looked up at the area circling them, noting there wasn't a building in sight. Nothing but flat concrete cutting through the span of green around them. A long, wide road the greenette speculated was a few miles long or more.
"This is a bad time for jokes," Izuku said looking at the blonde. Feeling anxious, Izuku felt the object in his hand get heavy. With his anxiety growing Izuku looked at his nearest companion.
"This is a joke right?"
Anxiety became panic for the bearer of evergreen orbs. He was encouraged by the waving Bakugo, beckoning him to join in this idea of his. Izuku noticed dark crimson eyes were alight with something. An unwavering hope, as if expecting something unforeseen to happen.
Izuku knew in the back of his mind a painful truth, he was going to tarnish that hopeful look with a secret of his. He found no joy in the knowledge either.
So, without a moment's hesitation, he walked over to the car's driver side. He adjusted the seat to accompany his smaller frame and his legs. Izuku sat in the cushioned spot, the sound of the door slamming behind him being the only thing to break the silence.
"There's something I need to tell you."
Izuku spoke with his head slanted toward the steering wheel, guilt tore at him for what he was about to do but he knew he had to break the news. He couldn't look at the blonde next to him or continue his demonstration any further unless the male knew what lurked in Izukus guilty heart. "Kachaan, there's something you should know. Its about what you said earlier, I-"
He was cut off when a warmth pressed onto his clasped hands. A larger one now rested on his balled up fingers holding the keys. He hesitantly looked in the owner's direction and was slightly relieved and pained to see Bakugo giving him a charming smile. "I promised to give you a driving lesson. After that I'm all ears." The ashen haired male gave him no recourse in the matter. The determined and eager glaze coating his eyes shocked him, its warm heartedness made Izuku hold back another word of disruption.
"Yea, okay. After," was all he could bear to say. The blonde removed his hand from the dark haired boys.
Izuku wouldn't admit to it if he'd been asked, but a coldness bloomed in his chest from its absence.
"So, wanna give her a start?" The elder teen suggested, leaning back in his seat with a calm demeanor Izuku envied.
Looking all around the contraptions in front of him, Izuku finally spotted the tiny opening which would fit the object in his hands. "Um, which one goes in there?" He asked, pointing at the keyhole.
Bakugo reached over and picked out the largest of the three keys. "Give it a gentle twist but don't release it too quickly," he answered.
Fearful of ruining the gorgeous car the greenette plugged the chosen key in with a trembling hand. Doing as Bakugo instructed, he turned them enough to feel the car roar to life then released the keys. Izuku witnessed the beast start twice now from the passengers point of view but that didn't come close to feeling it wake by your own hands. The intensity brought a face splitting grin to his face and he looked over to his companion. "I can't believe this is your car!" He exclaimed, not holding back his delight from the experience. "You really don't get nervous driving this thing?" Izuku's genuine curiosity overcame him enough to ask.
Bakugo gave Izuku a dangerously smug half-smile, "Never."
Feeling anxiety rip through him at the thought of driving such an amazing car, Izuku looked out to where he would be test driving the black classic. Suddenly, as if to worsen his anxious state, the road they parked on seemed much longer and more unstable to the green eyed swimmer.
"S-so what's next?" Izuku settled on asking , deciding to turn his attention back to the blonde.
"See those two pedals?" Bakugo pointed down at the mentioned pedals. The freckled male looked and nodded in answer. "Press the one on that end to brake, okay? The other to accelerate. Go ahead, give it a push."
"Really?" Izuku asked, puzzled at the suggestion.
Bakugo gave him a nod of encouragement, "Really."
Izuku looked down at the two pedals and hoped he wasn't making a mistake before pressing down on the accelerator. The engine roared at the action and Izuku flinched at its sudden increase in volume. His eyes centered on the male next to him when he heard a rare, yet just as surprising sound. Bakugo was laughing. A boisterous rumbling that was so amused and loud Izuku couldn't resist its infectious quality. His own laughter bubbled up, its noise adding to the others in a display of overwhelming joy.
After their laughter died down, Bakugo gave Izuku pointers on preparation. He showed him the rear view mirror and how to adjust it, the side mirrors and how to properly point them in favorable positions. He showed him how to read the gear shift and how to correctly engage a gear change. As soon as the basics were all covered, Izuku gave the ashen haired man an excited look. "Now what?" He asked.
"Now," The blonde pulled his seat belt across his body until it buckled in place with a loud click. "You drive."
Green hued orbs widened at the statement. "Already?! There's gotta be something else right?" Izuku said as he looked upon his accomplice with a questioning gaze.
"You're right."
Perking up at the words, Izuku watched and nearly stammered out his reply but halted all thought when the male next to him leaned over. His large frame hovered near him as his arm reached toward something past the greenette. The action had brought their faces close. Enough for Izuku to see scarlet irises connect with his and saw in their depths something fierce. A heat pooled in his belly at the sight.
The feeling was short-lived as Bakugo clicked something in between them. Breaking his gaze Izuku looked down and saw the strap hugging his body close but not uncomfortably.
"Can't forget this," Bakugo said tugging at the seatbelt strap. "Now you can drive."
The freckled swimmer thought he spoke with too much amusement laced in his words. Izuku took a deep breath to calm his rattled nerves. Raising his arms he clasped at the steering wheel and checked all mirrors as Bakugo instructed. He looked over the dashboard, at all its gauges and symbols. Then to the street in front of him.
The hands gripping the wheel tightened. His body went still and stiff, his mind suddenly raced with possible scenarios in which he ruined the car. Izukus reckless musings kept him so unaware he nearly jumped when something touched him. He looked over at the person resting their hand on his shoulder.
"Relax. Look, there's no one around for miles. Just put her in gear like I showed you. Then let your foot hover over the brake until you feel confident controlling the steering. Also," Bakugo aimed a smile at him, "you got this."
Izuku was captivated by the encouraging words, the smile sprouting on those flawless features of his caused the greenettes' to reflect one back. It was all so surreal to the lean swimmer. Izuku thought it was remarkable, having Bakugo support him so genuinely sent goosebumps up his shoulders and neck. The ashen haired athlete somehow made the nerves bubbling up in the freckled teen disappear with few words. Izuku realized how much he missed the man's presence, he couldn't believe how long it had been since they were able to talk to each other like this. However, the feelings coursing through him as he looked upon the males pleasant frame brought back a sense of dread. Momentarily, a bit of shame soured his thoughts. How could he let himself forget, it may not be this way forever.
Looking away from Bakugos bright expression, he tried focusing on the task at hand. Taking another breath, he gripped the stick shift and put the car in drive. "Okay, let's do this!"
