A/N:As you might've guess the mysterious power of Keir is magic, now since a power system (to my knowledge) of magic in RWBY was never established I deceided to make my don't worry Keir won't be insanely overpowerd,I'll also buff some other charters if he does seem a bit to again sorry if some sentances don't make sense, like I said some words randomly get removed with each chapter I post.
HUNTING
"This is getting really annoying."
Those words escaped Keir's lips.
Now he wasn't one to get annoyed easily, but walking around aimlessly in this damn forest was driving him mad.
For the life of him he couldn't seem to locate any villiage or town, and his map was useless.
He had begun to lose all hope of finding anything until he finnaly came across a path.
"Finally..."He mutterd almost happily.
He followed the path, intent on reaching a villiage.
"I really need to make some money here else I die of starvation."He mutterd to himself, sure he was a badass but he still needed hadn't encounter any wild animals he could hunt, which was a bit strange.
He only heard a few dozen crows here and there but no other animals or birds.
A lack of animals in area usally meant Grimm had taken up residence there, but he hadn't encounterd could be that the Grimm were just deeper in the forest,or...
"Could it be..."Keir let his thoughts wander, but they came to a halt as he finnaly saw a villiage in the distance.
It was a tad bigger than Emilia's,but he couldn't quite make out how it looked from his distance.
So speading up his pace,it didn't take long before he reached it.
"Abounded."
Keir simply mutterd as he looked around,it didn't take long to come to that conclusion, seeing as all the houses were destroyed.
They were broken down with roots growing on them as well as going through was as if the roots spawned within the home's.
He looked around and all the other houses were in similiar condition, roots covering it.
"A Leshy."Keir mutterd as he concluded what attacked here."Explains the lack of animals in the this is strange, they usally don't go out of their why to attack villages this big, regardless of how much negativity radiates then there's the lack of corpses,I doubt anyone could escape it so where are they?"Keir questioned, but he knew he would receive no answers.
"Regarless,I can't let something like that prowl I suppose it's time for a bit of hunting."
Leshy's,a subspecies of Grimm.
Their stronger, faster and way more viscous than the average to top it all off they're also smarter.
They're also extremely territorial as well so they just usally stay within their own territory unless they are disturbed.
"Means these villiager's must've pesterd it hence why it attacked."Keir concluded as he walked through the villiage."But how do I go about finding it?They don't exactly leave any tracks...unless..."
A ritual.
As absurd as it sounded some Grimm could be attracted via a ritual of some sort, although this only revolved around certain types mainly subspecies who were more abmnormal.
"But these subspecies were obviously created via magic, whoever mad them must've used old legends to enforce their spells to create means a ritual ought to work, question is which one?"
Or no he was going about this the wrong way,Leshy's usally had totems set out about there territory to mark it as their' those ought to piss it off enough to draw it in.
"Can't believe I was this close to do some bullshit ritual."Keir mused.
Momentarily he glanced at the swords on his back,Leshy's were smart they knew how to spot out a threat.
If they felt threatened they would stay hidden regardless of what you did,so he had to approach this by looking helpless.
So removing the swords from his back,he placed it within one of the many ruined homes, making sure to hide it well incase this place had visitors when he was out hunting.
"This is stupid but nessecary."Keir mutterd as he walked out of the home and once again headed for the forest.
"It's overall territory should be west of this villiage I'd 's where most of the roots spawned meaning it came from there."
Trees as far as the eye's could see,Mistral wasn't exactly known for it's large forest but it sure as hell had a few.
But regardless of the size the totems should be easy to find,he'd just have to look for where the majority of the crows were gathering,as strange as it sounded Leshy's often found themselves in the company of Crows and even wolf' they could slightly alter the minds of lesser animals,or something.
So Keir continued walking aimlessly until...
And jackpot.
Looking up he noticed a number of Crows swarming in the Leshy's preferred to control crows,he didn't know.
But it made his job easier.
Now that he thought of it this wasn't a job,he was just going out of his way to kill a dangerous Grimm.
"Bless my heart."Keir said scoffing to himself as he made his way to where to totem should be.
And in a small clearing within the forest he spotted it,in the middle of the clearing was the totem.
It had a wooden crossed shaped with a hollow circle otop it,inside the circle were strange paterns made of what looked like silk.
The crows above him 'Cawed' more loudly, but they took no action instead something else did.
Slightly bending his body to the right a wolf launched past him baring it's heard several growls around him and four more wolf's emerged from within the forest.
The first wolf who attacked quickly spunned around as it faced him once more, they began circling him as they waited for an oppertunity to attack.
One charged at him opening it's jaw and displaying it's rows of sharp 's charge didn't last long as it found Keir's heel embedded into it's head.
It gave a slight whimper before it was launched to the side and collided with a tree.
The remaining wolves remained cautious as they still surrounded him.
" you won't attack then I will."His figure blurred as he appeared infront of one of giving it a chance to react,Keir brought his sole down upon it's head.
He heard the crack of it's skull as it's head caved in.
Spotting an opening the two other's attacked, but Keir simply jumped aside and the wolf's bite at air.
Keir didn't waste time at the confused wolf's as his he clenched his fist and punched one,his fist dugged into it's face resulting in it's teeth flying everywhere.
The force sent it flying and colliding with the other wolf, there bodies skidding across the ground.
Looking at the last wolf Keir prepared to finish it off.
But it ran off without a second thought.
"Intresting, seemes they retain their survival instincts even if they're under the influence of a Leshy."Keir noted with slight interest before he turned to the totem.
Giving it half-hearted kick it easily came apart, and just as quickly the many crows flocking the sky dispersed into diffrent direction.
"One down,an unknown amount to go."
So walking further into the forest he continued his search.
His search however took longer than expected, night had already taken place and he had managed to locate two other totems.
They were also guarded by wolves but he had dispatched them easily enough and had destroyed the that he hadn't discoverd any more,so he concluded that he had gotten rid of them all.
But the Leshy had still not attacked.
So now all he needed to do was wait.
So he made a small fire and sat infront of it awaiting the Leshy to attack.
"This is unlike me."Keir quietly mutterd to himself.
He wasn't the type that would usally go out of his way to deal with problems like this if he didn't get paid.
He was cynical bastard most of the time, but here he was taking care of a dangerous Grimm out of his own free will.
He had no real reason to kill this Grimm, eventually someone else would've taken care.
"Suppose it doesn't matter now."Those word's escaped his lips and at the same time the fire before him was snuffed out.
The countless 'Caws' of Crows once again filled the silent night.
Keir stood up from the ground as spoke up.
"How nice of you to finnaly join me."
Amidst the darkness with the forest something emerged.
A tall humanoid figure emerged,it's body was pitch black and adorned with roots that seemed to grow out of it as well as countless human bones and skulls.
Atop it's head was what appeard to be the skull of a large deer.
Even from the slight distance it's figure toward over Keir's own.
Examining the bones litterd atop it's body Keir quickly concluded what had happened to the villiager's.
"Well aren't you an ugly bastard."
As if noticing his insult,it screeched loudly enough for all the forest to hear.
It's long narrow fingers dugged into the ground and in the next instance several dozens of roots emerged within them.
On command those rotten roots went in the direction of Keir at frightening speed, spreading wider in the process.
Keir merely watched the onslaught calmly as opened his palm,he pointed at the roots spawning infront of him and merely mutterd a few words.
"Fīřə"
And in the next instance a stream of fire exited his hand.
It engulfed the incoming onslaught of roots, but the Leshy was not giving up.
As soon as the roots were in the process of burning down it would spawn more, the burned ashes of the roots filled the air but neither party stopped there onslaught.
But noticing with his peripheral vision that more roots emerged from the ground,he quickly leaped back as the roots missed it's target.
With the stream of fire stopping the onslaught from the Leshy continued, countless roots emerged from the ground and were directed at Keir.
Keir danced through the onslaught of roots looking to skewer him.
The Leshy stood rooted in place intent on killing his prey for disturbing it so.
"Çřəæţīøñ §wœřđ§"Keir mutterd more incomprehensible words.
And in the next instance, slight sparks eminated from his hands and something began forming in them.
It slowly took shape to reveal swords that had spawned in his was two standard looking silver swords but it was all he needed.
Gripping them tightly he began an onslaught of his own.
He spun around erratically as he carved thought all the roots.
His form was a blur as he moved closer, and closer to the Leshy, who only increased it's onslaught but to no avail.
Once close enough he leaped into the air too fast for the Leshy to react.
Gravity quickly took a hold of him and he brought his sword's down vertically, cleaving through it's chest.
It let out an inhumane screeche before it stumbled back.
Keir however did not let it catch it's barrings, imbedding both his swords into the ground he once again aimed his right palm at it.
" Fīřə!"On command a bolt of fire engulfed the Leshy, who let out louder and more painful screeches.
" Fīřə!"Continuing his onslaught the Grimm contiuned burning.
The process continued before it finnaly let out a final screech,it's now limp body fell to the ground with a heavy thud.
Keir remained on guard as he still stared at the burning corpse.
After a few moments he was sure it was dead,he lowerd his hand and the blades besides him dissolved into thin air, with no proof that they had even been there.
Keir had taken more work than what he had been expecting, even with him using magic.
But that's to be expected he exeld more in his physical attributes and he only ever focused on the destruction aspect of magic.
Magic was a complex concept so he rather just focus on the aspects of it that would be useful to him.
All and all there was the 'Healing aspect,Defensive aspect,Creation aspect,Curse aspect and Destruction aspect.'
He only exeld in the creation and destruction aspects, meaning all of the magic under his belt included destructive magic or the magic to create most non-living object's.
However useful it might've been he'd prefer not to use it a whole lot.
Craining his neck he made his way back to the ruined villiage.
ACT II, A Little Thievery
"Godddamit"Keir couldn't help but blurt out of annoyance.
He was lost,no town or villiage is sight.
He had no idea how long he had been walking, only aware that it had been awhile seeing as the sun had risen.
"I go out of my way to take care of a dangerous Grimm, and the thanks I receive is ."Keir said sarcastically to himself.
He was on a path but it had not led him to any place.
So he had been walking around aimlessly for hours.
He was beginning to get more annoyed but he noticed a slight shine within the forest.
Curious and with nothing better to do he investigated.
It didn't take long before he reached it and discovered train tracks imbedded into the ground.
The whole area was a large clearing, for the trains.
"Hold on,this could lead me to a town if a followed it."Keir quickly concluded.
He was honestly getting no where with just following the path's so this train tracks were the next best thing.
"Maybe I should take Emilia's advice and just settle down somewhere, travelling around is becoming pain."
As he followed the tracks he couldn't help but think,
Why did he decide to travel around so much?
Honesty it's been so long he himself forgot.
Perhaps he was trying to get away from something,or maybe he was in search for something.
Purpose.
That's wanted purpose, after his mother died he wanted to find purpose in this misbegotten on his journey's he's only ever experienced treachery and seen the world for what it truly was.
The world was a cruel place, but everyone had a place in it even the most evil peole had a purpose and place in this word,so...
Could an abnormal guy like him find purpose in this world?A place to belong?
Purpose,purpose,purpose.
Why did he want purpose?
Was there really a need for it?
Maybe not but he still craved it.
Sure there was many thing's he could do thanks to his power,he could be some hero or even a none of those ideas sounded appealing to him.
"Tch,why am I thinking about this anyway?"Keir questioned himself.
But he perked up once he noticed something in the distance.
A town.
"Finnaly."He mutterd as he sped up his pace, the train tracks led to a small station but there was no train.
He made his way his way towards the entrance of the rather large town.
It was big alright,it had several decently big buildings as well as a number of shops spread throughout streets full of bustling people.
He walked though the streets as he took in the sights, receiving a few curious glances here and there.
However Keir didn't really care,he was just glad he finnaly found a town.
"Now,time to find a job to do."Keir mutterd to himself as he past an alleway but it seems his voice was heard.
"Looking for work are we?"A voice caught his attention, glancing at the alleyway he spotted a man.
He seemed to be in his late thrirty's messy black hair, dull black eye's and a stuble growing on his wore a brown coat, and underneath a white button shirt with a red tie hanging loosely around it,as well as black slacks and formal shoes.
"Maybe, depends what you want done."Keir replied to the older man.
"I've got a job for you that'll pay well."
"Oh?What kind of job are we talking about?"
Glancing around first he whispered in a low tone."The illegal kind."
"Illegal huh,so what you offering this job to any stranger who walks past you?"Keir couldn't help but quiestion.
"Course you can say I've an eye for people who can get things whaddaya say, interested?"
"I can't exactly be interested in something that I have no idea about."
"Fair enough, but I can't discuss it 's an old warehouse at the other side of town,it's big so you shouldn't miss me there in a couple of hours and then I'll give you the details."And with that the man diseapeared within the alleyway.
Keir rested his hand on the chin of his helmet.
Should he go?It wouldn't be the first time he did an illegal job and he was kinda desperate for money at the momment.
"Ah,what the hell."Shrugging his shoulders he made his way through the alleyway himself.
"Hope this job is worth it."Keir mutterd to himself.
And so he made his way to where to warehouse should be,he asked around a bit and all in all it took a fair amount of time before he found what was supposedly the location the mysterious man wanted to meet at.
It was a rather large rundowned wooded warehouse with a few windows atop and large metal sliding doors infront of it.
"Place looks like shit."Keir quickly concluded as he walked to the large doors.
So he simply knocked on it,his guantlet clanking along the steel doors.
It was quiet for awhile before a voice resounded from the other side.
"Eh?Who the fuck is it!?This is private property!"The voice didn't belong to a man,a girl a rather vulgar one at that."Oi Dominic there's some tin fucker standing outside!Should I shoot him up!"
"Tin man?Oh him,no you don't have to shoot anything just let him in I invited him."Another voice was heard beyond the door, this belonged to the man from the alleyway.
"Ah!?You invited him?You fucking senile!?"
"C'mom we needed the extra muscle, you two girls are cool and all but we need a little strenght if we wanna get this job done."
Their banter continued for a while before the door finnaly moved apart, reaveling the inside of the warehouse.
It was mostly empty expect for a couch and table that was smack dab in the middle of the the rundowned coach two people were seated,a girl and the now named Dominic.
"Oi!Try anything and I'll shoot ya till kingdom come."A voice was heard at his side.
Glancing to the side he noticed the girl who was responsible for all the swearing.
She was barely half his size if not for her voice he'd think she was some snot nosed toddler but she seemed atleast between 17 and 18 years old,she had pale skin and long violet hair that was pulled into two ponytails,as well as a hair band on her to her hair her eye's were the same shade of violet, her clothes consisted of an an overgrown high collard black jacket, black shorts and knee high off she had a rather large gun that seemed to large for her to wield, but wield it she was decorated with yellow and pink and seemed to have some heavy fire power, depending on what dust one used.
"Noted."Keir simply said as he walked to the couch Dominic and the other woman was seated on,with the girl following him her weapon still drawn.
"So glad you could make it."He said as Keir approached.
"Quite the place you got here."
"Ain't it?Got it for cheap, they didn't know what to do with it and it was too large to tear down so they just put it up for I'm sure your not interested in that,so let's get down to business."
"But first I'd like to introduce you to your partners, that foul mouthed one is Quinn."He introduced her.
The know named Quinn merely spat on the ground as she continued glaring at Keir.
"And this beauty here is Luna."He continued finnaly introducing the girl.
Same as Quinn she seemed 17 or 18,her hair was cut short in a bob cut with her bangs on the front being longer than the rest of her was ashen coloured and she had a pair of green eye's,along with that she wore a black thighless jumpsuit and a cropped white jacket atop it along with thigh-high had a large sniper rifle at her side, black in colour as well as what seemed to be a whip latched onto her side.
She merely gave him a nod as Dominic continued speaking.
"Don't let their looks fool you, these two are aspiring won't find a deadlier duo."
"Aspiring Huntresses doing crime?"
"Have to make money somehow."Luna spoke up for the first time, her tone was that of boredom.
"Tch!What's it to you anyway?"Quinn questioned.
"Nothing, just find it intresting."He heard her scoff before he turned back to Dominic.
"So,I'm guessing you got a name?"
"It's Keir."
"Well Keir a pleasure to meet now with the introductions out of the way let's get down to business."Reaching into his coat he pulled out a rolled up paper.
Opening it up on the table,it displayed a rather crude drawing of what look like train tracks going to certain places as well as featuring landmarks, such as forests or named towns and other stations.
"Well I already informed these two but I'll repeat what we're going to see pretty soon a train from the big city is going to make a stop here,it will load up on more supplies like food and materials but those aren't what we're only want the dust cargo that's boarded onto the train."
"A cargo train from the city would be carrying alot of dust, you got anyway to transport it all?And while we're on it how do you exatly plan to stop the train long enough to steal all that dust?"
"It's simple really."Luna spoke up once again, pointing at a landmark that was a forest she began,"In the forest deeper in there's two divulging tracks, the tracks are usally set to default to lead to Vale but this particular cargo train's destination is elsewhere, meaning it has to make a stop there and the tracks should be manually changed,so that's when we'll strike."Luna finished as Dominic began again.
"And as for where we'll be storing the dust, well we already have a speacial bullhead ready to transport the goods."
"Where do you plan on transporting it exactly?"
"Man,your just asking question after question."Quinn's voice interupted.
"It's fine Quinn,if he didn't ask these much questions I would be worried."Dominic said slightly chuckling."Well we'll be transporting the dust to Vale once we have it loaded got a buyer there who's willing to pay a hefty price for this dust."-
"I see, well your plan seemes decent enough.I'm in,so when do we start."
"Great, and the train is sure to arrive here at nightfall meaning when it rides off into the forest that will be our change."
"Then let's get going!I need to crack a few skulls."Came Quinn's enthusiast response.
Keir hoped he wouldn't regret this job.
