Zabuza had herbs scattered on his face and upper body with a stark red mark on his forehead from where the deadly basket made contact with his skull. The fearless ninja was knocked out by his younger counterpart.

*The Next Day*

Tsunami commented that they were running out of some spices that she needed for dinner that night. Katsuro volunteered to go to the market to look for some and Kakashi had Sasuke join him while Sakura was told to stay behind since the jōnin still couldn't defend the home in case anyone from Gato's employ decided to come by. Much to the girl's two young men were told where to find the store that sold what she needed and Tsunami offered to give them money to pay for it, but Katsuro politely declined.

So the two genin made their way further into the village. Just like when they first arrived, the poverty was very apparent. They kept their eyes forward but retained awareness for possible pickpockets and Gato's men that tend to roam around on occasion.

When they came to the small stall that they were directed to, the two picked out the best looking herbs and spices out of the small stock available. The dual-haired genin noticed Sasuke eying a small selection of tomatoes and casually picked two to add to their purchase. The raven looked up at him in surprise before quickly averting his eyes. They said nothing to each other and finalized their order. Katsuro paid the worn down clerk, with a refusal for the change back, and started back toward Tazua's home.

Before they could make it toward the bend in the road, a scream pierced the air. The nearby residents all ducked into the nearest building or alley so quick Katsuro and Sasuke were taken aback. They made eye contact and came to a silent agreement to find where the scream came from. Katsuro quickly sealed their bag into one of the many small seals drawn on his arms as they hopped onto a roof and sped in the direction they could hear more screams and yelling.

Sasuke and Katsuro came upon one sword-wielding man holding a young woman and two other ones shoving around a young man that bore a striking resemblance to the female.

"I won't let you take my sister! Ugh!" The man was punched in the stomach then kicked to the ground. The ruffians mocked him and gave him more kicks as he curled to protect his head and abdomen. His sister struggled to get loose of her captor.

"STOP! PLEASE! DON'T HURT HIM!" She screamed. The man holding her merely laughed and tugged her further away by her hair. She scrambled to grasp his arm as she cried from the pain in her scalp.

"MIRA! ARGHH!" One of the two men kicked the brother in the back.

The genin saw enough and quickly acted.

Sasuke dealt with the two men and swiftly knocked them away and stood in front of the injured man.

The man Katsuro targeted didn't have time to react and found himself with a kunai to his throat.

"Let the woman go or your head will roll." He demanded and shifted the weapon closer to the man's neck in a silent promise.

"Damn bastards! Who the fuck're you?!" He gritted out and tightened his grip on the female, drawing another cry from her. The other two men rushed back onto their feet and drew their swords at the Uchiha.

"You fuckers! You'll die for stepping into our business!" Mercenary 1 snarled at the apathetic raven.

"You're interrupting Gato's business, brat! I'd suggest you leave if you want to keep your life!" Mercenary 2 added. Sasuke scoffed and readjusted his stance.

"Like I care what business that slime ball has. If anything, I'd suggest you all leave if you want to keep your pride intact. If not, oh well. More fun for me." The Uchiha smuggly smiled, pissing off the older men.

"Why you-!" M1 snapped. He charged at the younger male and raised his sword up high. Sasuke whipped out his own kunai and blocked the strike. M2 came up to the side to deliver his own sword swipe. Sasuke pushed the first one back to engage the other man. He deftly dodged and used the butt of the kunai to knock him unconscious. He quickly turned around to parry the strike M1 attempted to land on him, but the man soon found himself with a cut on his arm.

The mercenary dropped his sword with a cry and clutched at the bleeding appendage. Sasuke quickly knocked him out for lack of attention. The mercenary still standing clenched his teeth at the swift dispatching of his colleagues.

"Now. Do as I say or you'll receive the same treatment. Or worse." The long-haired genin commanded. The man had no choice and released the woman who immediately ran to her brother, hugging him fiercely with tears streaming down her face. Her brother held her just as tightly.

Katsuro, as promised, released the last standing mercenary who beat a hasty retreat.

"You won't get away with this, brats!"

Sasuke raised an eyebrow at his teammate. "You're not going to stop him?"

"Nope. I'm just letting him lead us to where their 'business' is located." Katsuro replied.

"There's a huge building where Gato stores the people he kidnaps. No one knows for sure what he does to them, but it's pretty easy to guess that he sells them overseas seeing as we never see the people he takes again. Either that, or he's keeping them for himself and his men for… entertainment. Doesn't make it any better that they brag about it in the open." The twin brother sneered in disgust. He cradled his sister's head against his shoulder when she shuddered in fear. "Just head southeast from here to one of the abandoned docks and you'll see the building. It's not hard to miss."

Katsuro nodded his head in thanks. He did some hand signs, placed his hand on the ground where a summoning circle spread out upon contact, and a poof of smoke revealed two, pure white foxes with their ears, tails, and one opposite front paw colored dark blue.

"These two are Hitomi (right blue paw) and Hiro (left blue paw). They will escort you two home." The two medium, dog-sized foxes yipped and trotted over to the siblings. Hitomi rubbed her head against the sister's leg in comfort while Hiro stood beside the brother. The human siblings bowed in thanks to the two genin and walked quickly away with their fox guards.

When they got further away, ice blue eyes met with an onyx pair.

"Don't try to tell me to go back." The Uchiha started with crossed arms. Katsuro shook his head.

"Sasuke. I know you're strong, but given the information we just received, do you think you'll be able to handle what we're going to come across?" He asked quietly. Sasuke wanted to yell at him that he could handle anything, but looking into his teammate's eyes, he really looked and saw a seriousness and warmth that made him think clearly about the situation.

"I can handle it, Katsuro. I've been given memories of my own brother slaughtering my clan. I think I can manage against some mercenaries."

Said male came in close to the short-haired male. He brought his hands up to frame the sides of Sasuke's face. The raven jolted a bit from the touch and fought back a blush as the icy blue eyes came into further detail.

"This will be a different kind of darkness, Sasuke. You may see things that will make you sick to your very being. I'm asking if you're really prepared to see some of Humanity's Darkness? There will be no going back from this." Katsuro reiterated once again. The two were silent in their observations of one another. When Katsuro saw the steady determination of the other, he released him and stepped back.

"Very well." A clone of Katsuro appeared next to him before flickering away. "I'll inform Kakashi of the situation. Let's go." The two young men quickly moved.
