Disclaimers: JK Rowling owns the rights to all HP novels and characters; you might recognize a quote or two from the 4th book in the fic. ^^
Rating: PG, or maybe G. I'll put PG just to play safe. ^^;;;
Pairing: None
A/N: Written from a certain blond Slytherin's POV. I got stumped writing a Draco/Harry angst songfic, so I started scribbling to un-stump myself. And, well, *ahem*, this little thing was the result (or accident). Set at the end of GoF.
Enjoy!

I don't know what the big deal is. Personally, I'm not afraid to say his name.
Voldemort.
There. I call him the Dark Lord in front of everyone else, of course, but not in that terrified if-you-mention-His-name-He'll-kill-you way that most of the Wizarding World refer to "You-Know-Who".
Again, I don't know what the big deal is. He's just Voldemort.
Everyone would be horrified if they knew I believe this, of course, but there's nothing new in all this. History repeats itself. Over, and over, and over.
As it has happened for centuries, it happened in the times of the Hogwarts' Founders. Salazar Slytherin was a Dark Wizard. He aspired to control the Wizarding World, only to be banished by Gordic Gryffindor. Years following his death, another Dark Wizard rose. Only to have someone from the Light side defeat him or her. No matter what generation you live in, there will always be a Dark Wizard who wants revenge, who wants power. And there will always be someone to defeat him.
Voldemort is no different than his predecesors. No matter how many times he can rise from the dead, no matter how many times he comes into power, he will be defeated.
If Harry Potter has managed to banish the dark lord once, or twice, he can do it again. And I don't doubt that he will.
Ten, or perhaps even five years from now, Voldemort's name will be freely uttered, plainly seen in history books along with the Boy Who Defeated Him. He will go down in history, remembered for his rein of terror, but no more feared than Slytherin, or Grindelwald, or the others before them. Just another Dark Wizard who tried to take over the world. Vanquished by a hero.
And speaking of the hero...
"You've picked the losing side, Potter! I warned you! I told you you ought to choose your company more carefully, remember? When we met on the train, first day at Hogwarts? I told you not to hang around with riff-raff like this!" I jerked my head towards his sidekicks, all the while silently calling myself a hypocrite. After all, I know *very* well where the losing side is (since I'm in it). "Too late now, Potter! They'll be the first to go, now that the Dark Lord's back! Mudbloods and Muggle-lovers first! Well -- second -- Diggory was the f--"
Damn. I never get to finish my taunts, but it's just as well. Pity they didn't shut me up sooner. I was beginning to wonder how much longer I can run off on the mouth without being sick, myself. My vision fades to black just as the I feel the effects of the hexes they inflicted on me, but I was expecting it.
After all, much like the hero and the villain, a character such as I still have a role to play in history, no matter how insignificant it is.
