Michael walked quickly into the deserted park and sat down on the ground, he shoved his hands into his pockets and looked around at the brown dried up trees. Finally making to his destination Michael sat down on the ground.
"Hey Maxwell" Michael said greeting his best friend. Michael continued not pausing.
"Listen I can't stay long, me and Maria are going out tonight. Just the two of us, we are going to try and do that once a week. With Lexie it's kinda hard, but tonight Kyle and Isabel said they'd watch her. Can you believe that those two hooked up? I can't, I never saw Isabel with someone like that. . .come to think of it I didn't see her with anyone. I know, I know Max don't look at me like that, we had to let her grow up sometime. I just wished that she did that without the opposite sex. Anyway I just came by to saw hi to ya. Man is it cold out here or what?" Michael paused for a second to look at his watch.
"I got about five minutes before I have to get home. Maria still knows how to yell, I remember a month after Tess left she threw a vase at me cause I forgot to pick her up at the mall. Wow! Not going to go there again, but let me tell ya the making up was REAL good. Ya okay sorry, shutting up. Anyway I was thinking today at I can't believe it's been eight years since high school when it only seems like yesterday. I mean I know my three year old daughter is proof that it wasn't yesterday. . .okay bad joke sorry. Geez. Amy came over yesterday and was very impressed with the cleanness of the house, I was nervous that she would throw something if it wasn't, you know mother like daughter. I better take a mental note to tell Lexie not to take softball or something." Michael looked back down at his watch and saw he had two minutes.
"Listen man we really miss you. I never thought I could miss anyone other than Maria and now Lexie, but I really miss you. We all do, Isabel and Maria still cry a lot when they think of you. I've seen Kyle with tears in his eyes sometimes too. . .I'll tell you the truth cause your my best friend, but I cry too. At night I lay in bed and cry and Maria holds me and sometimes cry's with me, we need you here. . .it's not the same. Now don't look at me like that cause I know what your thinking. I know I always acted like I didn't need you in high school, but I did. I never got to thank you for saving Liz's life, because when you did you gave me Maria and she gave me Lexie and they both gave me something to live for everyday. So I wanted to say thank you before I forgot. I have to go now so I'm going to finish up, I wanted to say that I'm sorry too. I'm sorry for not being there for you when I should have been. Especially that night, if I was there instead of not talking to you because of a stupid fight we had things would have turned out differently. . .better. I am so sorry Max. . .so sorry. I really have to go now or Maria might throw her blow dryer or something. We miss you man. . .I miss you. I love ya Maxwell and I'll see you next Sunday." Michael finished up talking and got up from the ground. Shoving his hands deeper into his pockets he started walking back to his car. Halfway there he turned around and took one look at his best friends grave and smiled a little at memories that flooded his mind.
"I should have been there to save you when that jackass hit your car with his. . .I'm sorry." Michael said before he got into his car and headed home to his wife and daughter. Once again thanking Max for his life.
