She looked longingly out the window of her second-floor room, wishing that she could train and raise Pokémon. But at 5, she was much too young. She'd just have to wait.

Linzie Parkinson ran down the road to the lab. Professor Magnolia had given her a Pokémon license only yesterday. Today she would get the other necessary things: pokéballs, a Pokédex, and pokégear. She'd never run faster in her life, not even that day that there was a fire at the lab.
"Linzie!" said Professor Magnolia when she arrived. "It's good to see you're early." She handed Linzie the things she needed, and waved as Linzie started down the road to Viridian. "Catch something good, LP!" she yelled, using her favorite nickname for Linzie.
Linzie smiled at those words. She knew that she would catch something good. That was the point. Linzie had specifically requested that she catch her first Pokémon.
It wasn't long before se saw a nest. She carefully and silently approached it, only to see that it was a Rattata nest. She had no interest at the moment in something like that. Too common.
But what she saw next made her freeze in her tracks. It was an Electabuzz. She knew they were hard to catch and even harder to train, but she also knew that she could do it.
She threw a pokéball at the Electabuzz and crossed her fingers, her eyes closed. So she didn't see the little red light go out, only heard the 'ding' as Electabuzz verified as caught.
"Alright! I did it!" she said, letting out Electabuzz.
