"I read a story in the paper the other day about two actors just celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. I guess in Hollywood that makes history. That's something I"ve never really understood. If two actors stay together for even five years they get a story in every major newspaper across the US, but people like my parents who've been married for fifty years get a small article in the local paper.
"My parents are pretty ordinary people. I mean they're not celebrities or anything. In fact they're military or rather were military. Mom retired from the marines about 30 years ago and dad from the Navy for about 25 years. Sure my dad was the Judge Advocate General when he retired, but that didn't change anything except for making my little brother live up to high expectations. Not really, mom and dad are proud of all of us for who we are.
"My parents raised five children in all their years together and even through Tommy, the youngest is 25 they're still always correcting us at the dinner table when we come to visit. Yep, that's right my parents had five kids. Three from their DNA and two they adopted. That didn't make a difference. They treated us all the same and we all loved each other the same. Kevin and Rachel were two kids that nobody wanted. They're mom but them up for adoption when Kevin was three and Rachel was just born. They had no clue who the biological father was. I was four when mom and dad adopted them so I didn't understand that they weren't my real blood, so I went on believing they were my biological brother and sister until I was fifteen and mom and dad told me.
"You couldn't tell that they weren't born to Harmon Rabb and Sarah Mackenzie. Kevin flys in the marines with my little sister Kasei and Rachel is flying for the Navy off a carrier that's somewhere in the south china sea right now. Out of five kids four are aviators. Tommy was the odd ball he went into the navy and is a JAG lawyer.
"Today mom and dad are celebrating their anniversary. They've spent fifty wonderful years together and look at them they couldn't be any happier. They're sitting in dad's favorite lawn chair mom on top of dad's lap with their five children running around playing with the dog. Looking at them I just hope and pray that Stacy and I will be like them one day."

"Hey Matt get over here. Mom and dad want a group photo." A male voice calls.
"That's Kevin my little brother. Coming Squirt." With that the tall blue eyed man runs over to where the small group has gathered and throws his arm around his brother, Kevin's shoulders and pulls him into a head lock.
"Come on guys straighten up." A short gray headed lady yells at the two boys.
"Yes Aunt Harriet." The boys reply at the same causing the group to laugh just as Harriet snaps the perfect picture of a happy smiling family complete with parents, children, and grandchildren. Yep, just another day in the life of an ordinary family.
