One Word
He'd been coming to this place for years. His friends had come here after school when he was a child and it was tradition. For a while, though, the place seemed began to look rundown and was forgotten. But not for long. After his best friend took over the management of it, the kids started coming back. It was the most popular place he'd ever seen.
He sighed, brushing his short jet black hair out of his dark blue eyes and entered the building. Sitting at the counter in his usual seat, he smiled as he saw the kids playing video games and laughed as his friend cracked a joke as he handed him his refreshment - coffee now that he was an adult instead of the hyped up surgar rush of soda.
The bell at the door chimed and he turned, not really interested in who it was who was coming in or out but just something to distract him. He choked on his coffee, he hadn't expect to see such a sight. But there she was, standing in the doorway. Her hair was more golden than any gold he'd ever seen, pulled up in two - what WERE they? Meatballs, he decided to call them. Two meatballs on top of her head with two thick strands of hair falling down past her waist. She stood, her bright blue eyes surveying the room. They settled on the bar, on his friend, and she grinned as she gripped her school bag closer in an easy way.
She made her way to him. She sat beside him. He could smell her perfume, a light airy scent that seemed to both excite and confuse him at the same time. His heart was beating fast and his hands felt sweaty yet cold. 'I'm in love,' he thought to himself. 'No,' he reasoned with himself, 'I can't be in love. Not with her! She's just a little girl, she can't be 14 at the oldest.'
But he knew. He knew with every beat of his heart that he loved her. She was perfect, the way she sat with such easy femininity and talked lightly with his friend. Speak to her, his body said, say something. But what to say he didn't know. How could he speak when he was sure the spell she had over him would surely break?
One word, Chiba, that's all it takes. One word.
He took a deep breath, calmed himself as best as he could. His hand was shaking, he put down his coffee for he was sure he'd spill it and make a fool of himself in front of her. Yes, all it took was one word. She turned to him, her eyes brightened tenfold by the warmth of her smile. She was waiting for him to speak, she knew he wanted to say something. Then, before he could think about it any longer, it came to him....
"Hello."
~The End~
