Did you ever love somebody
So much that the earth moved?
Did you ever love somebody
Even though it hurt to?
Did you ever love somebody
Nothing else your heart could do?
Did you ever love somebody
Who never knew?
Best friends, just friends, Annie thought with a sigh. There's no difference. You're just friends with Carey. You're best friends with Carey. Nope, no difference. Who cares, anyway? It's not enough. I want something more than friendship.
Did you ever lay your head down
On the shoulder of a good friend
And then had to look away somehow,
Had to hide the way you felt for them?
Have you ever prayed the day would come
You'd hear them say they feel it too?
Did you ever love someone
Who never knew?
I do.
Crush or love? Annie wasn't quite sure. When it came to boys, she was never sure. Since she had spent her life moving from one place to another, spending only a few months in one place at the most, she had never been able to have a real relationship with a guy. Now, she was on a tour bus with two cute guys and one really hot guy she liked, and she was too shy to do anything about it. Typical Annie.
And if you did,
Well, you know I'd understand.
I could, I would
More than anybody can.
She was the one Carey had turned to to spill all his feelings for Fi, all the problems a relationship with Fi: the huge five-year age gap, his parents' reactions, Fi being in Seattle, Fi's very obvious feelings for Carey's younger brother, Clu. . . . Yeah, she'd much rather be a girlfriend than a best friend.
Annie sat on her bed and pulled her legs up to her chest, resting her chin on her knees. At least he doesn't tease me relentlessly like Jack does, Annie thought. That's a start, right? A start, maybe, but not enough of one.
She couldn't tell anyone how she felt. Molly, Irene, and Ned wouldn't understand, and might even be angry or shocked; Jack wouldn't really care; Clu would sympathize, but he would immediately tell Carey what Annie had said; and of course, Carey would blow her off completely. Fi? Annie didn't know how she'd react, and Fi wouldn't be able to do anything about it, anyway. This really sucks, Annie thought with a tinge of anger and resentment. Why doesn't he care about me as more than a friend? Why am I only just a friend to him?
Did you ever love somebody
So much that the earth moved?
Did you ever love somebody
Even though it hurt to?
Did you ever love somebody
Nothing else your heart could do?
Did you ever love somebody
Like I love you?
Like I love you?
Like I love you?
