I have a smile

I Love You

I have a smile

stretched from ear to ear
to see you walking down the road

A silver-haired boy stands patiently at the end of a cherry-tree lined pathway as the sun dips closer toward the edge of the tranquil world. Turning slightly, he sees the one he's waiting for and smiles with sweet innocence as sakura petals dance by his perfect features.

we meet at the lights
I stare for a while
the world around us disappears

They meet halfway and the darker boy gazes down into the other's sugar smile. Touya slowly raises a hand and brushes a petal out of Yuki's hair, letting his fingers stray ever so softly through his beloved's windswept silver hair.

it's just you and me
on my island of hope
a breath between us could be miles

His hand drops back to his side and he breaths in deeply. Yuki looks skyward toward the amber tinted sunset then takes Touya's hand in his own.  "The sakura smell so nice this time of year." He pulls him towards a patch of grass and pulls the blanket covering his box off and sets down the picnic.

let me surround you
my sea to your shore
let me be the calm you seek

They sit in silence for a moment that echoes a lifetime. Yuki pauses eating for a moment and looks up to see his friend watching him softly. "Touya, you said there was something you wanted to tell me." He sits back and waits, looking slightly confused but happy nonetheless. His smiling face, so close yet so far away, makes the taller boy's heart ache with never-ending longing.

oh and every time I'm close to you
there's too much I can't say
and you just walk away

Touya lets the smallest of smiles emerge as he stares at the still naïve boy across from him. "Yuki…" The smaller boy jumps suddenly.

"Oh, you're right! I'm hogging all the food again!" He pushes some musubi towards Touya and smiles apologetically. Touya pauses. Taking the food from Yuki's hand his gently keeps his own hand still for a moment, resting it on Yuki's. "No, I'm fine. Yuki, I…" His words fall silent, so hard to speak.

and I forgot
to tell you
I love you

The silence returns. Yuki continues to wait for a moment, then stands up and begins gathering the food. "I'm sorry, I have to get home and help my grandmother." Touya doesn't stand but helps him pack. Yuki bends down and embraces him quickly. "I'll see you tomorrow!"  The other boy nods and lies back down on the blanket.

and the night's too long
and cold here
without you

He had lost his opportunity once again. How long would he have to live with these feelings raging inside him unrequited? The air chills quickly in the velvet night, but Touya doesn't notice as he pictures his love's face smiling at him from the winking stars.

I grieve in my condition
for I cannot find the words to say I need you so

Touya stands up as he hears quick, light footsteps running his direction. He sees Yuki returning, probably for the blanket he had forgotten.  Yuki finally reaches him and gazes up into Touya's dark eyes, his own full of conflict.

"Touya, you never told me what you wanted to say."

Mind racing almost as much as his heart, Touya sets his hands on Yuki's shoulders. On this endless night it was now or never, he knows. He takes a deep breath and stares truthfully into the beautiful eyes that constantly haunt his thoughts.

"Yuki… I love yo-"

A gentle finger on his lips stops him. Yuki smiles and pointes at the fireflies which have just begun to awaken. Then he turns his attention back to Touya.

"I know Touya. I've always known."

Touya is taken aback for a moment, but regains his composure instantly and smiles back at Yuki. He leans down and kisses him tenderly.

Two souls, in perfect harmony and at long last, are joined in the light of the fireflies.
