v Animal Crackers
" Shippo!" Kagome yelled when she saw the little kitsune
once again digging in her pack. The kitsune raised his head and stared at
Kagome then ducked his head and ran.
"Shippo, you come right back here." Kagome eyed her pack before giving chase.*Drat
him why can't he stay out of my
pack* As she ran she noticed Shippo was
leaving her a trail of dropped items, here a book, there some ramen, a pair of
panties. These she snatched up before
continuing her chase.
Rounding a tree,
Kagome found Shippo sitting staring at a box held in his hand.
"Kagome " he said before she even had caught her breath to
scold.
"What are these?"
Shippo's claw touched the gaudy box gently. Kagome knelt next to Shippo
her scold fading away as the little kitsune looked tearfully at her.
"What do you see Shippo?"
Kagome asked gently.
"A-a-animals, I think."
said Shippo. "That is a big cat, the one with the stripes."
"Yes, that is a tiger."
Kagome's finger touched the next picture "And this is a polar bear."
"Is it a spell, Kagome? Is that why they are trapped?" Shippo asked, wanting to know.
"No Shippo," Kagome
said gathering the little kitsune into her lap. "These are pictures, someone painted pictures of different
animals. Do you remember the scroll we
saw? The one with the pictures? This
box is like that scroll."
Shippo turned the box over and over in his hands, looking at
the gaudy pictures and even stranger writing.
Finally he sniffed the box.
"What is in it, Kagome?
It smells so good". Shippo looked up at Kagome.
"These are cookies, Shippo, sweet crackers." Kagome said. "Taste one, Shippo."
Shippo dug his hand into the box and brought out a cookie.
"They are called Animal Crackers." Kagome continued not really paying attention to what Shippo was
doing. To her surprise the kitsune
yelped and flung the cookie away.
"Shippo! What's wrong?"
"They are animals! I can't eat them." Shippo wailed. s "They've been bespelled."
"No, no, no, Shippo, it's alright. It's alright." Kagome hugged Shippo close and rocked him .
"They are just cookies shaped like animals.
No animals have been bespelled.
They are made for children, Shippo and taste good." Kagome pulled out a
broken cookie and held it out to Shippo.
Who took it with great suspicion, but the cookie just looked like a
broken piece of cookie, not an animal at all.
Shippo's nose twitched at the scent and his tongue came out to lick his
lips. Shippo nibbled then snapped it
down. He smiled at Kagome.
"That was good, can I have more?"
"Here Shippo," Kagome said handing him another cookie, a
whole one this time. Shippo turned it
over and over in his hands before snapping it down. He licked his chops then looked at Kagome slyly.
"What Shippo?"
Kagome asked.
"Can I share these, Kagome?" Shippo asked.
"Sure Shippo."
"INU YASHA!" Shippo yelled running back to camp. "I've got something for you!"
