I have to do this. Dai only thinks he's happy with me--didn't he know that there is--there has to be--someone better for him than me?
I turn my head and look at him, passed out next to me. He's so innocent looking now, and so beau--.
No! I can't start thinking about this now, and start falling back in love with him again. We aren't right together--opposites may attract, but in the end, they're still completely different.

I've already made so many mistakes in my life, and I don't want to add Daisuke to the list. He's still got his whole life ahead of him--and I have nothing.
If I leave him, I will break his heart, but it will heal. If I stay . . . his heart will give way, tear, and he'll become like me.
Just the thought of it scares me--I can't bear to drag down his spirit like that.
We've been through so much together, but everything has to end. Dai will find someone better, he will. He has to. I know he can do so much better--I'm not that good-looking (he could get someone with ten times the looks), not that smart (he could find a person with an IQ higher than mine), and not that good at sports (he was better when he was eleven than I am now).
With a sigh, I sit up and look down at him.
. . .you'll be crying . . .
The moonlight highlights two shiny streaks on his cheeks--tears? Has he been crying? As I begin to get up, he whimpers at the loss of contact and his bloodshot eyes open.
. . .I'm sorry I made you cry . . .
. . .I didn't mean to, let me wipe those tears away. . .
"Dai?" I whisper, reaching down and brushing my thumb over his cheek. "Dai, what's the matter? Why're you crying?"
"I dreamt," he replies brokenly. "I dreamt that you were gonna leave me 'cause you thought you weren't good enough."
. . . wipe those tears away baby . . .
. . . don't cry baby . . .
He sits up and I enfold him in my arms as his body shakes with sobs. "You won't leave me, will you? Oh, God, Ken, promise me you'll never leave. "
"Never," I whisper as my heart breaks and refills with love for him.
After all, even the sun needs a little rain.
. . . it's only rain.
