It's been awhile since I've been here. After I lost her to him I went back home to where my mother lived, trying to get my life back or what little I had left. She and our kids were my life then he came into the picture and suddenly everything fell into place for her. He was what she wanted and I no longer was.

I had heard from a friend that they moved into our old house. The one we bough shortly after we learned we were expecting James, just six months after we had gotten married. My home was now his.

Our home was perfect for us. It was not overly large but big enough to accommodate our growing family. Now their growing family. I glad no one recognizes me as I pull into the neighbors driveway. They fixed the road here. I wonder if he had anything to do with that. He's a pretty powerful man here in Washington and has a lot of pull. I would love to see the kids, but I know it's not what's good for them. Max told me the other day when he called that his new father was great. It broke my heart into when I heard my little boy call someone else his father. Apparently they all went to a baseball game something I never did with them. I can't help it if I don't like baseball. It's just not my sport, but apparently it's his as well as reading comic books. He's got so many more things in common with my sons than their own father does.

I hear a door shut and look up from my thoughts and see her walk into the back yard. Her stomach's getting larger I can tell. I wonder if she'll finally have that little girl I couldn't give her. The one she's always wanted. I wonder just how many kids they plan to have. If their lucky the kids will all get their mother's looks. They must be getting ready for a BBQ cause he's at the grill and the boys are setting up some kind of little game.

A few minutes later I know I'm right when the Roberts pull up and behind them is the Admiral. The man hasn't changed a bit. Butch, my dog, comes running up to them as they all get out of the van. The rest of my family comes up to them and the figure of speech that dogs are man's best friends is completely wrong. Butch was my dog and now he's sitting there letting HIM rub his head.

It's clear my life has moved on without me so all I can do is pull my truck out of the driveway and head back to Australia. All I ever wanted to do in the first place was to make sure my family was okay.

THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
