snapetorture The Silent Torture of Severus Snape
by Admiral Albia

Disclaimer; My apologies, I'm not J.K. Rowling. Go and look somewhere else... Olympus, perhaps.

This is just a short Snape fic I wrote after something occurred to me last night. I don't normally write Snape but I felt this warranted it. Snape-lovers, this is NOT for you. Trust me on this.

The Silent Torture of Severus Snape
"Potter. Weasley. Rat brains, vinegar, jars. Get pickling." Sullenly, the two boys got to work and as they did so Severus noticed, not for the first time, that they seemed to have finally gone off each other. He gave a mental shrug and got on with his marking.
After a while, Severus looked up to check they were still working. Ron was over at the cupboard getting some more vinegar but Ja- Harry was still furiously dunking squishy grey lumps into vinegar-filled jars, glaring at each and every one of them as if it was a Death Eater.
James. Death Eaters. Now there was something not to think about.
Why not? a small voice in the back of Severus' head seemed to say. It's not like he'd have listened to you or anything. Of course you should've just not been bothered. After all, it's not like he saved your life or anything... Severus growled. He was beginning to wonder if he'd ever be free of his conscience. Aware that the two boys were looking at him oddly and that he'd been staring into space, he muttered "Bloody Gryffindors" and scribbled a zero on the parchment in front of him When they weren't looking, he added a one in front of it.
The trouble was that his conscience was right. He could have saved James Potter, like that pain in the rear had saved him. And... here came the most recent jab... `Is a schoolboy grudge enough to send an innocent man to Azkaban?` Apparently, it was. After all, working as a spy, Severus had moved in Death Eater circles. He knew who was there and who wasn't - and Sirius Black most definitely was not.
Pettigrew, though... he could have told them. He could have saved himself an awful lot of hassle and guilt if he'd simply written an anonymous note to tell the Potters who their spy was. But no, Severus Snape had to let it go. After all, he'd thought, it would get them out of the way. He hadn't even told Lupin when they met again, twelve years later.
And now here he was. He couldn't even look at the boy without being reminded of it.
Looking up at the clock, Severus nearly smiled. The hour was up.
"Potter. Weasley. Clear up and get out of here before I give you another detention for wasting my time."

[AA; Sirius! This was meant to be a G!]
[Tkaa; Hmmmph]
