Well, to
put it simply, I consider myself as one of the 'Good Guys'. It's just that most
folks don't seem to realize it. Rather frustrating, if you ask me. Sure, Ky Kiske's
a nice kid, and he did manage to stop the Justice, and Testament after that.
But what does he do to actually help people? You can prattle on about nobility
and honor as long as you like, but that doesn't mean you're doing the right
thing. In this day and age, it's easy to glorify those who've fought the gears
and forget about the other aspects of the war. anyone can be a martyr; it's
just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But what about the
family they leave behind? Take Japan, for example. The Gears razed the entire
country, and what do we do? The government declared the few survivors an
'endangered species' and effectively quarantines the lot of them. I guess the
government thinks that the tiny bit of genetic information that makes them
'Japanese' is far more important than just who they are. There's a name for
that sort of stuff: it's called eugenics.
The way the
Japanese have been treated is just one of the many reasons I do what I do. The
government stopped working ever since they sanctioned the creation of the
Gears. As an outlaw, I'm truly free to do the right thing. This freedom doesn't
come without responsibility, though.
There's a reason my crews are made up almost entirely of orphans.
Besides giving them a home, I teach them what freedom means, and about the
responsibility that comes with it. Someday, when I'm old and retired, those
kids are all going to grow up with a definite knowledge of what's right and
wrong. In turn, they'll teach others. It'll be the start of a revolution; one
that I hope will finally create a society with the ingrained morality and
wisdom to avoid repeating history. And to think, the history books will say
that it all began with me.
