What Could Have Happened...
Author's Note: Another Alanna goes to the convent stories, with one MAJOR difference. Also, this is my first fic, so don't flame, unless you're using CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. And I'm NOT going to make Alanna fall in love with Jon, that's SO overrated.
Disclaimer: Yadda yadda yadda. I don't own anything, all credit to Tammy.
Alanna was sitting up in bed, awakened from a horrible dream. She was at her room in
the convent, learning how to become a proper lady. Much to her surprise, Alanna rather liked all
the things she was learning, even though she hadn't given up her dream as a lady knight. She
had just put more emphasis on the lady part.
At the age of 15, Alanna was just growing into her looks, and she was becoming a fine
young lady, with long, fiery red hair and bright amethyst eyes. Although she didn't hate being a
lady, she didn't want to get married yet. When she got to the convent, Alanna had vowed to not
fall in love until she was al least 16. Even though the Sisters thought she was ready, and Alanna
knew that she would probably have suitors swarming around her, she didn't want to go quite yet,
mostly because she didn't want to be taken as someone that broke her vows, even to herself.
When the Sisters told her that she had to go to Corus to get betrothed, she wasn't
pleased, or unhappy. For the most part, Alanna was in shock. She would finally get to see Thom
again! But after seeing her twin fulfill her dream, would she still be happy with what she had
become? Because even though everyone at the Convent adored Alanna, they only liked her
because she had started to accept who she was, and liked who she had become. From all of her
letters from Thom, he was surviving, but just barely. He was the worst in his class in archery, he
had no friends, and the only person who halfway liked him was Myles of Olau, because he said
that Thom had potential.
After Alanna woke up, she read the last letter from Thom, saying that whenever she
was welcome, she could visit him so he could have someone to talk to. All the men there were
horrid, and impossible to talk to. The only part that kept him alive was getting all the letters
from Alanna. When he had heard that his dear sister was coming, he had shouted for joy.
Somebody sensible was finally coming to Corus! Not one of the stupid Court ladies, who couldn't
have an intelligent conversation for their lives. Little did he know what Alanna had turned into.
1 day later...
When Alanna woke up, and dressed in her best gown, which was a violet gown that was just one shade lighter than her eyes, and the neckline not too high, but not too low. She wore a dark blue satin cloak, which brought out the color in her sapphire earbobs. Today she was finally going to Corus, to find a husband. From all of the other ladies that had already visited, there were a number of choices, but from none of the descriptions did Alanna imagine a man suited for her. Oh well. She would have to find someone that would do, even if he was completely mean. Even though Alanna got to choose her husband herself, the Sisters had to approve of him before anything could happen.
