LEGEND IN MY LIVING ROOM
(A. Lennox/Peter-John Vittese)
Beth Lestrade sighed to herself and kicked her shoes into a corner. She looked around at her flat. This is what I gave it all up for, she thought, to be like him.
When I was just seventeen
I ran away from home
To be with all the pretty people
To be on my own
The picture from her sixteenth birthday was still on the wall. She had been so happy at the time, not expecting what was to come. She hadn't expected the car accident, leaving her all alone in the world. When her godparents had taken her in, she left, took all her things a travaled to New London, to stay with her brother. It was really being alone though. Her brother may have been letting her stay with him, but she took care of herself.
Bright lights and trains and bedsit stains
And pavements paved with gold
She had been dazzled with the town's beauty, it diveristy. She thought this was were she was supposed to be.
And I believed in everything
that everybody told me
Too quickly she had learned not to be gullible. She found out fast that you can't afford to be taken advantage of in the big city. Beth became stuck in her ways and a force to reckon with.
Have mercy
Have mercy on me
I found myself in a lonely place
with a suitcase full of dreams
When she found out that she had the journal's of her favorite character's friend, she tore at them. Read them quickly, then tried to memorize them. Yes, she had thought, this was the life I wanted. Just like Sherlock Holmes.
and I soon grew up to realise
what living in the doghouse means
She could remember being asked about where she knew so much martial arts from.
"I used to be a lot less cautious than I am even now." Was the only answer they got.
But everyday I told myself
good things would happen soon
'Cause I knew that I was going to be
a legend in my living room
Every day, after coming home from school, she'd act out her favorite stories. She always felt that she would be something special. It had been a feeling of anticipation in her gut since she could remember.
Now, on a regular basis, she had the man himself in her living room.
Have mercy
Have mercy on me
(Welcome to this perfect world)
"And all that got me here." She now said bitterly.
Now everyday on a dead end street is
where I spend my time
The dust has been collecting
on the corners of my mind
All those years of homing her talents were fruitless. They were put to shame when she brought Holmes back to life. She took a back seat.
But I've shed my tears in bitter drops
until the thorn trees bloomed
It wasn't all in vain, she wouldn't have been in the position to ask for his help if she hadn't earned that job.
To take the spiky fruit
to crown myself the Queen of doom
"Well, Elizabeth Lestrade, this is your life. Get use to it. You never know when something can happen." She smiled to herself as she climbed in bed, lifting the covers over her head, blocking the chaos of the world . .at least for a little while.
