Justification

Justification

I didn't mean to pry, Cloud.

"Oh, shut up, Tifa.  You're just like everyone else."

No!  I just wanted to know so I could help you.

I thought you might tell me you loved me, instead of someone else.

I thought it was my turn.

But, there I go again, being selfish.

Trying to justify myself.

As always.

I sicken myself, sometimes.

I can imagine how it must be for you.

I don't care that you hurt me, really.

You don't know I love you.

And I won't tell you.

Because I would rather shelter you from knowing you hurt me

Than justify my stupid prying, just to say, "I'm right."

Sometimes I wonder, though.

If you knew, would it really make a difference?

Would you care?

I honestly can't answer that.

But keeping you happy is much more important

Than keeping my fragile heart intact.

One day, you'll realize it.

If not you, someone.

If not someone, no one.

At least I know it can't get any worse.

Author's note:  This one's actually based on real life.  No, I'm not currently in love.  I like someone, but yeah.  This did spin around based off of something that happened in real life, so I warped a couple details to make it fanfiction.
