It was quiet.

He liked it that way.

For the first time in months, Spike heard nothing except for an occasional rustling as he turned the pages of the newspaper.

He stopped reading for a moment and looked around the room. It was eerie- perhaps a little too quiet. He kind of missed the noise.

The noise came back.

"Spikey! I'm home- and oh my god there was this huge sale at the mall and I bought all of this great stuff!"

Spike turned around just in time to see his girlfriend, Harmony, dump nearly twenty bags full of mall things onto their bed.

"You paid for all of that?"

"Of course not! Duh Spike, I'm not that dumb! I charged it!"

Spike shook his head and walked over to the bed.

"So, what'dya get?"

"Oh, um, just ordinary stuff I guess." Harmony looked up into the air and tried to think as Spike started poking through the bags.

Suddenly the bulb went off.

"OH!" Harmony burst out, startling her bleached-blond companion just a tad. She started shuffling through the bags.

"Oh! Aghh! Where.Are. They!?"

Spike backed away from the bed as Harmony dug deeper into the piles of bags, throwing things left and right. Finally...

"Ah hah!"

A victorious Harmony emerged from the pile with a box that she tossed to Spike.

After a mildly successful catch, he opened the lid and gazed inside as Harmony described the contents of the box.

"See?" she squealed, "Aren't they cool?"

"They're shoes, Harm," Spike said as he took a pair of plain white, ordinary looking shoes out of the box.

"They're not just any shoes Spike."

"They're not?"

"These shoes change color!"

"Change color?"

"Yeah! In the sun!"

"In... the... sun?"

"Yeah! Aren't they cool?"

Spike put the shoes back into the box, put the lid back on and lightly patted the top. He started walking out of the room.

"I'm going hunting, I need some quiet."

"Can I come?"

"No!"

"Please?"

"No!"

"I'll wear my new shoes!"
