"Yui... it's a very pretty name." said Suboshi softly as he pushed some kindling into a heap on the ground.
Yui said nothing, she continued sitting on the ground untangling a thick bandage. After a few minutes of silence, she spoke. "How is your arm?" There was a heavy gash on Suboshi's arm and though the bleeding had mostly stopped it still looked horrendous.
"It still hurts, but I'll be fine. I'm just glad the soldiers didn't get you." Suboshi had already started a fire and was heating the water from his canteen. "We'll need to find some more water soon, I used up what was left in my canteen."
"Mine is still full Suboshi. If we can find a stream or a lake or a village sometime tomarrow we'll be alright." Yui kept her back turned to Suboshi, but took a packet of herbs from her pack and began mashing them up into a paste with a dribble of water from her canteen.
"The water is hot enough now Lady Yui. Let me put the bandages in." Suboshi dropped the bandages into the near-boiling water and soaked them before putting the herb paste onto the dripping rags. Yui bound his wound tightly after washing it and puting some herbs directly on it. "Thank yo Lady Yui."
"You should rest Suboshi." said Yui coldly. She got up and walked towards the clump of trees not far away. The floor of leaves crackled slightly under her light step. Yui sat on the ground and began braiding clover strands. She hummed a tune she had once heard Soi sing and felt arms wrap around her body. Suboshi rested his head on her should while he embraced her from behind. "Suboshi? What are you doing?"
"Lady Yui...I love you. I must admit that." Suboshi whispered in her ear so quietly even the trees could not have heard. The moonlight shone on the two as he dropped his arms and let on flutter near her left arm, strokeing it gently.
"I don't know what to say." said Yui honestly. Ever since she had first come to the book world, after she had been raped, her emotions had been entirely thrown off. She couldn't imagine how she would react to this if she and Miaka had never entered the Universe of The Four Gods. She couldn't imagine how she would react now.
"You don't have to!" Suboshi whispered. "Just see, see what I have to offer. I only want your happiness. Just that."
Yui turned to look at Suboshi. "A-alright." Suboshi held Yui's cheek as he kissed her, his other hand holding her wrist.
"Do you know what it's like to really love someone Lady Yui?"
"I don't know what anything is like anymore."
"I'll take care of you Lady, I'll take care of you. Like when I took the arrow for you today. I'll always be there for that."
"Oh Suboshi!" Yui burried her head on his chest and cried. "Oh God I've been so afraid! So utterly lost and afraid!" Suboshi held her head to his chest and smoothed her hair. Finally she calmed and Suboshi kissed her again. Their lips met and Yui felt safe and comforted, like a small child warm in her bed though a blizzard rages outside. "When I'm with you, Suboshi, it's like everything else stops and it's just us."
"That's all I want." he said simply. "All I want."
