Harriet sighed as she glanced over toward the Isle. It had been years since she had stepped foot there, had been years since any of her siblings had called it home…and yet…there was a small part of her that was still drawn to it.
Maybe it was because that was where she'd been born? Maybe it was because that was where she'd met Sammy, the girl of her dreams and the woman she was lucky enough to be marrying that day? Or maybe it was because that was where her mother was buried and where her father still resided.
Her father…the notorious Captain James Hook of The Jolly Rodger. It had been years since Harriet had seen him or even heard from him. The last time she had even heard his name was when Harry had mentioned he'd paid their father a visit back when they were on the Isle getting Sammy's father to Auradon so he could be with his daughter and sons.
Is…is it wrong to feel jealous of your wife to be? Harriet thought as she briefly took her eyes off the Isle and over to where Sammy was standing with Smee and her brothers. Smee had been a key part in helping plan the wedding, going with Sammy to her dress fittings at Evie's or running the swim center if Harriet had a dress fitting. Anything he could do to remove any amount of stress from them, he did.
So why did Harriet feel a sense of longing every time she glanced at the Isle? Why did she feel like a little kid wanting her papa? He had clearly made his choice even though Harriet had sent him an invitation. She might have been drunk when she did so but that was besides the point.
The point was that he didn't come, she thought. His eldest daughter's getting married to the love of her life and he didn't come. And it's not as if he was ever against me with Sammy, though I don't think he knew either.
A part of her knew that it was probably better that her father didn't come to the wedding, that it would have made it too stressful for Harry and that might have prevented her brother from attending. Not that Harriet would have blamed him one bit if he had though she would have been a little disappointed that her last chance to have her family together had been crushed.
"Harri?"
Harriet looked away from the Isle as she heard a nickname she hadn't heard in years. It had been what her siblings called her when they were younger, when Harriet was too much for them to say.
"Harry?" Harriet asked, slightly shocked to see her brother standing there with his arm outstretched. Yes he was her Man of Honor but she thought he'd be standing at the alter watching them walk down.
Harry gave her a small smile. "If…if Captain James Hook won't get his head out of his arse long enough to come to his eldest child's wedding and walk you down the aisle…would it be okay if a Harrison James Hook walked you down instead?"
"Language Harry," Harriet said with a small chuckle but smiled as she took his arm. "You don't have to do this you know?"
"After everything you did to make sure CJ and I survived the Isle? You bet I do," Harry told her as they watched Smee walk down the aisle with Sammy. "Besides…you deserve to walk down the aisle with someone on your arm. You sacrificed your childhood to raise CJ after all, you shouldn't have to give up one more thing because our 'father' proved he's good for shit."
"You've got a blue streak going on huh? Would it kill you not to swear at my wedding?"
"I'm a pirate and two swear words is hardly a blue streak."
"It's a blue streak if I say it's a blue streak. Sammy doesn't want her brothers to pick up any bad language."
"Then why the hell did you invite Dustin? Out of all of the crew, he's the one you need to worry about possibly teaching the Smeelings some new vocabulary. Though I think Celia and the little Lord will make sure he follows the rules today."
Harriet couldn't help but smile at that. Sure enough, Celia and Hadie were keeping a level glare at their crew mate who had come from the Isle to attend Harriet and Sammy's wedding. Granted it wasn't as if Dustin was in any way intimidated by their glares—but the glares from their sisters on the other hand? That intimidated him.
"You look great by the way," Harry said as they continued to make their way down the aisle. "I might have said that already but it deserves to be repeated."
"Why thank you," Harriet said with a small smile. "It's nothing fancy, just something Evie whipped together while working on Mal's dress for her wedding."
Harry snorted. "Honestly I don't think Blueberry knows how to make anything that wasn't her absolute best work. You saw the dress she made for Uma for Cotillion after all."
"I did," Harriet nodded, knowing Harry's use of the nickname wasn't out of malice like it had been when they were kids. "I also saw you almost faint when you saw her."
"…The yacht hit a wave."
"I thought you were out of your denial?"
"Just because I can admit my feelings for Uma does not mean I almost fainted when I saw her at Cotillion." Harry said firmly.
It was Harriet's turn to snort in amusement as she shook her head. "Whatever you say Harry, whatever you say."
"…Well anyway my point is your dress looks great," Harry said. "And so does Sammy's."
Sammy does look amazing, Harriet thought with a smile as she looked over at her bride to be. She was wearing a simple blue dress that honestly looked more like a sundress than a wedding dress but Harriet didn't care. In fact, she'd made sure to get her own dress in a similar style only in red.
And while she normally wouldn't be caught dead in a dress, this was their wedding day. She wanted it to be special for Sammy. She saw her in regular clothes or pants every day, there was only one day where she'd get to see her in a dress.
"…Are you upset?" Harry whispered after a moment.
"Why would I be upset?" Harriet asked him but knew what Harry was referring to. How could she not? After all, he had been the one to come up to her while she was staring out to the Isle so it would make sense he'd ask about it.
Harry didn't respond but shrugged slightly.
"Harry…I won't like and say I'm not disappointed he didn't come," Harriet said, her voice soft. "But I got to have someone even more important at my wedding because he didn't come."
"Really?" Harry asked, looking at her. "Who?"
"You you goof," Harriet told him as they stopped at the alter. Reaching up to give her brother a hug, Harriet whispered into his ear, "you will always be more important to me than our father ever could hope to be. Never forget that."
Harry smiled and gently kissed Harriet on the cheek before going to sit down next to Uma as Smee did the same thing with Sammy. Well minus the sitting down next to Uma part. That would have been weird.
Whenever Harriet looked back on her wedding day, she wouldn't have been able to tell you what the officiant said or what her vows were. In all honesty the only thing on her mind was how beautiful Sammy was and how lucky she was to be able to not only marry her but to be able to marry her best friend.
"Harriet?" The officiant said at one point causing Harriet to flush as she realized she hadn't been paying attention.
"Oh…yes?"
"Do you take Sammy to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Harriet nodded.
"And do you, Sammy, take Harriet to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Sammy said, giving Harriet a small smile as she nodded her head.
"Then by the power vested in me by the kingdom of Auradon, I now pronounce you wife and wife. You may kiss your bride."
Harriet grinned and leaned over to lay a gentle kiss on Sammy's lips. Sure she was used to the feeling by now but there was something different about being able to kiss her as a married couple compared to kissing her as just girlfriends.
"So…how's it feel being married?" Sammy asked with a small smirk as they parted.
"I don't know, why don't you tell me?" Harriet asked as she took Sammy's hand and the two of them began to walk back up the aisle.
"Perfect. It feels perfect." Sammy said, her smirk transforming into a loving smile.
"I couldn't agree more," Harriet said, a loving smile on her own lips. And she meant it. It truly felt perfect.
