Tim was hurt… and he was… he was furious. The betrayal… the nerve… he couldn't say that he had not been hurt like this before, because he had been. Many times he had been cast out and forgotten by his own flesh and blood... But this was Dick. Dick… it was Dick and for it to be Dick who dealt out this betrayal… this pain just wasn't…

'No… Dick… wh-.. how could he… who does he think he is…' Were the words and questions that were swirling around in Tim's mind as he felt that sharp prickling feeling behind his eyes and the tightness of his chest. 'Damn you Dick… Damn… you.. you arrogant, self-righteous ASSHOLE! How could he just… he was.. he said that we were brothers no matter what… and Bruce… Bruce… Da-'

His mind tripped over the words as he pictures the man that had saved his life just as much as Tim had saved his. He is gone… but not dead.. he doesn't know why but he feels it deep in his gut… no, in his soul. He can't be dead, and he will find him, no matter what, and when he does he will leave the family, no one will care anyway right?

'I mean sure, Alfred, but it's Alfred, he'll be the constant in each of our lives forever. But the rest? Bruce is too emotionally constipated to feel anything, Dick showed he never cared anyway when he took away the one thing I had left, both Jason and Damian would be happy to see me jump off a cliff. So, as soon as I get Bruce back safe and sound, I'm leaving and never showing my face again.'

So now Tim is walking down the streets with a duffle bag over his shoulder and a hoodie covering his face making his way to one of his personal safe houses when he stops and realizes that the other bats would probably still know the location of all his own safe houses.

'Crappy motel it is then.' Tim thinks as he turns and starts walking in the opposite direction when he is suddenly yanked into the nearby ally by a group of thugs.

"Looky 'ere boys! We got ourselves a rich one!" The guy holding Tim spits out breathing retched alcoholic breath into his face. The other thugs move in closer all with either dirty, greedy or just cruel looks on their faces

"Does ye daddy know you're out this late son?" The thug in the back chirps up causing Tim to finally look up at his attackers and directly into the man's eyes, somehow causing his to cower slightly which made Tim give him a mental pat on the back despite the beating he knows is coming.

"Shit boss… that's Wayne's boy." One of the thugs says catching the attention of every one of his comrades and Tim. The thug holding Tim smiles wider exposing all his rotting teeth and starts giggling like a little girl with a throat infection.

"Hah! Well we got ourselves the richest of em all then! How much ye think we can squeeze from Wayne for this one eh?"

"Boss are you nuts!? Haven't you heard no one gets away with ransom for one of these brats!? If it ain't daddy who saves em it'll be the whole GPD and if it ain't them, it's the kids themselves. They got some karate shit of some sort going on their boss. I heard Daddy makes em take it for this reason exactly!"

"Aag shut up Bill. Look at this kid. What's he gonna do eh? He probably can't even climb a ladder!" And with that the thug balls a fist and slams it into Tim's stomach causing him to double over and gasp for air.

'Dangit, that may be a cracked rib. And I can't do anything because I cannot allow anyone to make connections between me and robin…. Well previous robin…'

"Just get it over and done with, no one is going to be paying any ransom for me." Tim spits out between gasps of air. At his last gasp he looks up through his bangs and despite how crappy he is feeling right now, plasters his best 'do your worst' and 'is that all you got?' look on his face. Seeing the wheels start to turn in the thugs heads until the Boss seems to understand what he meant.

"So you're running away then?" He says starting to grin wickedly again. Tim says nothing just looks back down. "Well then… guess you are of no use to us then."

The next thing Tim feels is another punch to his abdomen, and then a slap to the face, followed by more punches and some kicks. 'Well shit. If this is how I die then the universe seriously has a twisted sense of humour…' … … what if it's what I deserve… it makes sense that Dick would throw me out the moment Bruce disappears… No one picked me. Not like Dick… or Jason.. or even the little brat Damian. Right?'

So Tim just lies there, accepting the beating and doing what he can to protect his most vulnerable places. Can he get out of this situation? Yes… of course he can, he's robin… or was robin. Does he want to? No, no he does not. Why? Because screw it, that's why.

He feels his vision start to fade and just as he is about to admit defeat and succumb to the darkness he suddenly hears people hitting the floor and what sounds to be a fistfight. He then hears two voices, one concerned and the other angry… very angry.

"You like beating up little kids huh!? C'mon fight me like a man! Yeah you better run ya bastard!" The angry voice growls and for a moment Tim thinks it might be Jason but is somewhat disappointed and relieved at the same time when he hears the man's name.

"Eliot…" the concerned voice says and Tim doesn't even open his eyes, he's too tired, too sore and he really just wants to go to sleep right there. Unfortunately, he is forced to come out of his reverie when two calloused fingers are pressed against his neck making him lash out slapping the hand away and backing up against the wall.

'What the hell was that you idiot!? Months and months of training and that's your defence mechanism? A slap?' Tim scolds himself for the pathetic attempt to stay alive.

"Hey hey kid it's alright. We ain't gonna hurt you. You're safe now those men are gone." The man with the concerned voice says. He finally takes a look at who is in front of him, the two men who may have just saved his life. One short angry looking man with long hair and crossed arms, kind of reminds him of Jason just… well… shorter.

The other man, being tall and gentle with his hands up in a placating manner, looking very concerned for Tim and reminds him of… no one, he doesn't know who this man reminds him of. Tim hears what he just said and scoffs. 'Men? Those weren't –'

"Men? It'd be a compliment to even call them animals…" Tim says making Eliot and the other man wrinkle the faces in confusion.

"Animals are nice…" Tim clarifies thinking that that was what they were confused about.

"... what? Never mind, what's your name kid?" concerned man asks. Tim isn't happy about giving out his name to strangers especially if they don't already know who he is, but it's just the first name right?

"Alvin."

"Right, Alvin… how is that your response to what I just said? You need a doctor!" The man says and this catches Tim's attention. 'No I can't go to a doctor, no this will get back to the manor somehow and Dick CANNOT know this happened.'

"Hardison you're scaring the kid!" Eliot hisses seeing Tim's… or Alvin's wide eyes he moves forward and kneels down in front of him.

"Hey kid, Alvin, look we want to help, we can call your parents and tell them to meet you at the hospital-"

"NO!" Tim suddenly yelps jumping to his feet a bit too fast causing him to sway before catching himself. "No. I'm fine I do not need a hospital." He adds looking both of them dead in the eyes relaying some of the desperation he is feeling at this moment.

Eliot suddenly realizes that he must have been running away from home or something of the sort and for some reason he is glad that he found the boy. He sees the kid all bruised and battered, with an arm wrapped loosely against his side and also notices how the kid isn't squirming or groaning because by the looks of it, that should be incredibly painful to even stand.

"You running from someone kid?" Eliot asks looking Tim straight back into his eyes.

"No, I'm not running from anyone or anything."

"Look, Alvin, you probably got like a couple broken bones or something like that, you need some medical attention!" Hardison almost yells but holds his tone so not to scare the kid. Tim levels Hardison with a batglare and musters up all the conviction he can.

"I can take care of myself. I. Do. Not. Need your help… I don't need anyone's help."

Eliot listens to the way he said it and concludes that the last part was not for them to hear. 'Maybe he was kicked out…"

"Well there is no way we can just leave here and continue on with a clear conscience kid. Do you at least have anywhere we can drop you off?" Eliot asks.

"Motel, other side of town." Tim says suddenly. He has realized that he probably wouldn't be able to make it in this condition and these guys seem sincere enough. 'Huh, Gotham and sincere really aren't words that go well together…'

"Awesome, that's where we're headed too." Eliot says as he stands. "Can you walk? Hardison's car is at the parking across the road."

"Ye I can walk." Tim retorts, gathering his bag and follows the men across the somewhat busy road. As they reach the lot he notices that the vehicle is a van. 'Well that's not sketchy at all.'

"Just saying, if you guys are kidnappers, I'm going to be … really pissed cause I really don't have time for that right now." Tim says with a huff, looking at the two men.

"Kid, how many times have you been kidnapped that your response to it is 'I don't have time for that'?" Hardison asks looking shocked.

"You not from around here, are you?" Tim says. Seeing his confusion, he just shakes his head with a smirk.

"You can take the front if it'll make you feel better." Eliot says looking at Tim reassuringly.

"If you are kidnappers, the front won't make me any less kidnapped than if I were in the back." Tim scoffed and got into the back. The ride took about 20 minutes or so including traffic, during that time Tim had laid back flat on his back and closed his eyes. Of course, that had scared the heck out of both Eliot and Hardison when they opened the van door to find Tim passed out.

"Shit. Alvin? Alvin!" Eliot says rushing to the kid and was about to put two fingers to his neck when Tim's hand suddenly shot out and a surprisingly strong grip held Eliot's where it was.

"I'm up geez. I was just thinking."

"Great, well… we're here." Eliot says looking both annoyed and relieved. Tim sat up, slower than he liked and almost protested the helping hand that was plastered to his back. As they headed past the front desk that was manned by a very bored woman, Tim veered off to go book himself a room.

"Ah ah, not a chance kid, you're coming with us so we can check you over and make sure you don't… I don't know, like die in your sleep or something." Hardison said standing next to a cross armed Eliot. This earned them a look from Tim that seemed too mature for a young kid like him, and Eliot recognised it as someone who has probably had worse and could look after himself.

Tim looked back at the lady behind the counter who only looked up when she was addressed, and in doing so recognised Tim from the papers. Immediately straightening herself out and looking more presentable just in case the great Bruce Wayne was in the room.

"Single room please, 2 weeks." Tim said quietly so the two men waiting for him wouldn't hear.

"Of course, young man. You here by yourself?" She asks, selecting the single room that indicated it was ready to be used again. She grabbed a key from her draw and placed it on the counter only after Tim had paid.

"Thanks." He said not answering her question and turning back to the waiting men. "I will let you do a once over, but that's it. After that we part ways and forget about the whole thing."

"Deal." Eliot says as he and Hardison lead the way to their room. They reached the room and Eliot noticed how Alvin, checked every corner of the room as if searching for any threats, his eyes landed on the 3 other occupants in the room who all stared back at him. One was confused but had a hint of recognition that was quickly whipped off his face. One was curious and the other was… indifferent.

"Aaah, Eliot?" The confused man asks seeing the team's hitter making a b-line for the medical bag and returning to the kid who hadn't moved since arriving in the room. Kid just stood there, analysing everyone in the room until his eyes settled on the older man. What he saw in the kids eyes was… beyond him, he had no idea what it was, but wheels were turning.

Hardison let out a nervous laugh next to him. "Heh, aah so this is Alvin. Alvin, the old one is Nate, and the two pretty ladies are Sophie and Parker." He says pointing at each of them respectively. Tim just grunts.

"Alvin huh?" Nate says, looking at the kid more closely he notices the slight pink swelling around his face and the grazing around the same area. He also notices the kid favouring his left side and the small stretches of pain in … well his everything. Nate also knows that this kid's name is not 'Alvin'. It is Timothy. Timothy Drake and his adoptive father, was their next mark.

'Did his dad beat him? That could help with the case actually. Someone had come to them saying that they had been robbed by Wayne enterprises, and that there was major corruption in the business, that that is why Bruce Wayne is so filthy rich.'

Their client had gathered reports on how abusive and dirty the billionaire was, and now the team was here to take him down. But his hopes for an easier case of child abuse was trumped when Hardison spoke.

"Found the kid being beaten by some thugs, and for some whacked up reason, he didn't want to go to the hospital! So Eliot is going to check him over to make sure he ain't dying." Hardison says and the whole room can hear Sophie gasp.

There is silence as Eliot starts the check-up, with everyone watching the boy closely, and Tim doesn't really care, he just wants to get out of here as fast as possible. But something about these people in the room is bothering him and he doesn't know what. Of course, after his many years of training and practicing how to control his micro-expressions, no one knows just how much they are being picked apart. All they see is this, bored looking teenage kid who winces at the prodding that Eliot is giving him.

He was asked to remove his shirt and the gasp now came from everyone except Eliot. There was already some substantial bruising forming around his torso and they noted that there were a few older scars. They also noted that he had a well-muscled, lean physique and must have a pretty high pain tolerance if he is sitting up straight with those injuries.

Tim suspects that Nate knows who he is. 'Why he hasn't called me out on it yet can only mean it benefits him that he thinks that I don't know that he knows who I am. They are not from around here, that's for sure. For one, their accents don't match that of a day to day gothamite. Secondly, people don't interfere in a good ol' civilian beat down. Look the other way, you were never there and saw nothing is how the people think. The capes will save 'em, they say.'

"What were you doing out there by yourself Alvin? Aren't you a little young to be wondering the streets alone this late at night?" Nate questions.

'If you only knew-' Tim thinks to himself. "With all due respect, what I do is none of your business." Tim says matter-of-factly. How he said that without making it sound like a little brat or spoilt kid, he had no idea. Nate was about to respond but Eliot cut him off saying that he was done.

"You have at least 2 broken ribs and your arm has definitely got some bone damage, you will be very sore tomorrow with all that bruising too. Seriously kid, why don't you just let us take you to the doctor?" Eliot states.

"You did as good a job as any doctor in this situation. The only other thing they would have done was give me meds and tell me to take it easy." Tim said with a smirk.

"You could have some internal bleeding."

"I don't."

"And how could you possibly know that Alvin?" Sophie said in her English accent still looking quite worried for the kid.

"I just do. Now thanks for your help, but I have to go." Tim said, standing up with his wrapped torso, he pulled his shirt back over his head, his bandaged arm pushing through the sleeve first. Picking up his bag and throwing it over his good shoulder, walks to the door.

"You can't just leave!?" Sophie almost yells, looking very close to tears. "Look at you, you're all beat up and-"

"Sophie…" Eliot says and she stops. He turns to the Tim levelling a serious gaze at him, "Now I did clean you up and all but those will have to be cleaned and redone every day. So either you bring yourself back here same time everyday so I can do it or you give me your r-"

"I can do it myself."

"Look Alvin I don't think you understand the importance of this. If it gets infected-"

"I am fully aware of what could happen should my wounds become infected and I said that I can do it myself. Thank you for your help but I do not need any further assistance." Tim says giving Eliot one of Bruce's infamous batglares, just more Tim styled.

"Alright fine. But if you need anything you know where we are."

"I'm fine. Thanks again." Tim simply says and slips out the door and heads to his own room. Eliot tried listening to the click of a door to try figure out approximately which room he'd be in, but heard nothing, not even footsteps. Looking out their room and down the corridor, he sees nothing but empty space.

"I can't believe someone would do that to a kid." Sophie says with a hand over her mouth and wet eyes.

"You'd be surprised what people can do." Eliot says quietly.

"Oh Sophie…" Parker says trying to comfort her, "don't worry, he'll be fine. He said that he was. Besides, there's been worse cases."

"But his eyes Parker, they looked so… so… dead. Obviously not on the outside, but deep inside. I could tell."

"Alright, now that we are all here, let's start the briefing." Nate says clapping his hands. This successfully pulled everyone's thoughts back to why they were here in this god-forsaken city known as Gotham.

"Bruce Wayne. Billionaire playboy. Lost his parents at age 8. Living with the family butler at his parents mansion ever since. Also, has about 3 adopted kids and one biological kid." Nate states the facts and clicks a button on the made up screen Hardison created on the motel walls.

"Richard 'John' Grayson. Circus kid, parents killed falling from the trapeze, got thrown in juvie when the social workers couldn't find him a place in foster care. Bruce Wayne finds out and adopts him." Nate starts off, and then clicks the button again, bringing up a young angry looking face.

"Jason 'Peter' Todd, street kid, died in a bombing in Ethiopia." Nate looks at his team, seeing an angry Eliot and Parker, shocked Hardison, tearful Sophie, clicks the button again. Bringing up Tim's picture. He almost laughs at the stunned looks on each of their faces.

"That's Alvin!" Sophie and Hardison exclaim.

"A.K.A, Timothy 'Jackson' Drake. Bruce Wayne's neighbour, parents murdered and the good Samaritan that Mr Wayne is, adopts him. Well, takes him in, hasn't been made official as far as I know." Nate says and braces himself for the questions. Few minutes later after heated discussion about the three boys, Nate clicks the button again, bringing up the youngest, smallest and angriest looking kid there.

"Damian Wayne. Only known biological son, mother is unknown. Only started living with his father around the age of 6. No information of the boy before then. And as you all know, we have a job to do at Wayne enterprises. Where there is smoke there is fire. And there has been lots of smoke brought to us by our lovely client."
