Keane was in the underground bunker tiding things up when the alarm sounded, signaling that the door to the surface was being opened. He grabbed his gun and went to see what it was. Then Hetty came racing in looking really shook up.

'Hetty? Hetty, what's wrong?' Keane called out as he tried to catch her. Then she closed her bedroom door.

Keane knocked on the door. 'Hetty? What's wrong? You can tell me, I'm your friend.'

Then he heard crying on the other end.

'Look, I don't know what happened, but you know you can trust me!'

A couple of minutes later, Hetty opened the door.

'I, I was ambushed at my safe house.' She softly said.

'Oh my goodness! Can you tell me more?' Keane kindly asked.

Hetty beckoned him into her room and they sat down on the bed. And she began to tell him what happened.

'Oh, my, gosh. I'm really sorry that I couldn't have been there for you. How did you even get out of there without getting scathed?!' Keane asked, stunned.

'I don't know! It all happened so fast, I don't really remember it all! What I know is that there dead bad guys and an unfortunate child who was caught in the crossfire, and I left behind the ID that I've been using out here. When I was trying to drive away, I heard a huge explosion. The house was completely destroyed.' Hetty replied, trying to hold it together.

'You were betrayed. That has to be the only reason why you were ambushed like that.'

'I know. And I only have a small list in my head of who would do it.'

'I'm not on that list, am I?'

'(Sniff). No. I know I can trust you.' Hetty replied.

'Well, looks like we're stuck here until further notice.'

'Yeah.' Then Hetty started to cry again.

'Oh, come here.' Then Keane hugged her.

'I really need to talk to Mr. Callen! He needs to know I love him before I possibly get killed out here!' Hetty cried out.

'Shhh. You've survived this long, you'll last until we get home.'

'Can we please figure out how to get a safe connection so I can call them?'

'When I can and when it's safe to.'

'I just want to go home.' Hetty softly said. 'I want my family.'

'I know you do. (Rubbing her hand).'

They sat in silence for awhile. 2 war weary souls desperate to go home, having to lean on each other for comfort. But also determined to both go home alive.

Endnote: There'll be a 2nd part to this later this month.
